edwinjm··on HSBC is killing my business, piece by piece
Some banks are already moving to Amsterdam (or have plans), like Royal Bank of Scotland and MUFG, Japan’s biggest bank.

edwinjm··on The Netherlands has become an agricultural giant
Ah, so farmers never can do good. And when they do good, it's an "propaganda picture".
edwinjm··on The Netherlands has become an agricultural giant
Dutch farmers recognised this and focused on new/other kinds of tomatoes with much better taste like cherry tomatoes and vine tomatoes.
edwinjm··on Unreal Engine, Zen Garden Demo Using WebAssembly
Nice WebAssembly/WebGL demo, only for latest Firefox and Chrome.
edwinjm··on Ask HN: Why Haven't GUI Front End Editors Caught On?
Haha. Do a google image search for "motif gui" and you'll see the most horrible interfaces made by men.
edwinjm··on Volkswagen overtakes Toyota as the world's biggest carmaker
Volkswagen was the first who got caught and fined. There are more car brands with emissions that are too high.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/sep/19/many-car-...

And still, people only think about Volkswagen when we talk about high emissions. It's not even the worst offender.

edwinjm··on Night Shift Mode in macOS Sierra 10.12.4
From their website: "f.lux is patent pending". So when they get their patent, they can sell licenses.
edwinjm··on Newest MacBook Pro is the first MacBook not recommended by Consumer Reports
That's not true. First, for example Dell's dock works fine with the Mac, second the chip is not Apple's but from Texas Instruments and the non functioning devices are not compatible with this chip. So Apple blocks nothing and devices don't have to go through any Apple certification program.
edwinjm··on Show HN: Portainer – A lightweight management UI for Docker
Will there be a OSX (MacOS) version? It's quite rare for software to have Windows and Linux support, but no OSX support.
edwinjm··on Vue.js is easier to learn than jQuery
He's not comparing jQuery with Vue, he's asking which one is easier to learn for a beginner.
edwinjm··on Total Nightmare: USB-C and Thunderbolt 3
Apple's idea is that your monitor will be the hub. See the new LG Ultrafine Display. Just connect your Mac with one cable and you're ready to work.
edwinjm··on Macbook Pro Touch Bar runs watchOS
You think remembering all function keys for every program is not a problem? Some remarks really amaze me.
edwinjm··on Ask HN: What are the best personal project websites you've seen?
"Pomo Space" reads like something else, especially in the font you use :-|
edwinjm··on How to steal a developer's local database
Routers like Fritzbox also protects agains DNS Rebinding: https://en.avm.de/service/fritzbox/fritzbox-7390/knowledge-b...
edwinjm··on Commission says Ireland granted undue tax benefits of up to €13B to Apple
Not if you knew the deal was sketchy from the start. What's likely the case here.
edwinjm··on Commission says Ireland granted undue tax benefits of up to €13B to Apple
You're only talking semantics now. The net effect of normal taxes minus subsidy is the same as lower taxes. Draw your conclusions.
edwinjm··on “Node.js is one of the worst things to happen to the software industry” (2012)
JavaScript was explicitly designed to use one thread and prevent all kinds of concurrency problems. It requires getting used to, but it's very powerful.

Look at this page and tell me the JVM is better: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/util/concurre...

edwinjm··on “Node.js is one of the worst things to happen to the software industry” (2012)
JavaScript uses one thread so not switching threads with all its contexts saves a lot of overhead.
edwinjm··on “Node.js is one of the worst things to happen to the software industry” (2012)
Interesting. In which language is this "readily solved"?
edwinjm··on A minimal raytracer
It was a submission for IOCCC, you know, the International Obfuscated C Code Contest.
edwinjm··on Egypt cancelled DST
So how will this work with Windows, MacOS, Android etcetera with preprogrammed timezone/dst tables? Are Microsoft, Apple and Google now in a rush to update the tables and push updates to all devices?
edwinjm··on ECMAScript 2016 Approved
"This specification also includes support for a new exponentiation operator and adds a new method to Array.prototype called includes."

Not much new here for regular JavaScript developers.

edwinjm··on Microsoft won't back down from Windows 10 nagware 'trick'
Can't you re-install from your original DVD?
edwinjm··on Sunrise is shutting down
Why is this site so hard to read?
edwinjm··on MetaPong: A JavaScript Animation Library
1) A demo that doesn't work when clicking the start button :`-( The developer was too lazy to put in a default image...

2) When using the logo of the page as url and typing a count of 999, the animation is very jerky. Animations with GSAP I saw where much smoother.

edwinjm··on Node.js ES2015/ES6 support
For one, CommonJS doesn't work well in the browser.
edwinjm··on Preventing CSRF with the same-site cookie attribute
Right. I said "nice addition".
edwinjm··on Preventing CSRF with the same-site cookie attribute
Well, I don't agree. It is certainly a nice addition to make the web more secure. I hope my bank (and every other significant website) won't toss my auth tokens to different domains. And about reverse proxies: it's a browser feature, so how can reverse proxies be a problem? The browser doesn't care what's happening behind a reverse proxy.
edwinjm··on The Dutch tech whiz who could save journalism
I use it and it works really well. For the price of a cup of coffee, I read a week of the best articles from a whole range of newspapers and magazines. And when you accidentally clicked a link or an article is really bad, you can ask your money back with a single mouse click.
edwinjm··on Where to hate daylight saving time and where to love it
Read before you reply. Imron says "in the evening" :-S
