edgyquant··on Where has Construction Automation been successful?
Why is this ridiculous?
edgyquant··on The Nature of Dance
Every group thing where men play a big part alongside women or kids have a shortage of men. Men are simply way less social than women in today’s world.
edgyquant··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
This is objectively not the case, selling goods to America and Europe is what made China rich and that is due to a free market system they implemented
edgyquant··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
China has succeeded so much by moving away from a planned economy when they were fully planned they were one of the poorest nations in the world. Most successful nations are mixed economies and yes, this is a settled question.
edgyquant··on Nvidia dismisses "circular financing", says every $1 it invests brings back $100
Is Anthropic turning a profit? I thought that was only when considering discounted compute from spaceX
edgyquant··on A misalignment of AI in mathematics
How is that like a normal job?
edgyquant··on Silicon Valley Is Transforming the Military-Industrial Complex
World War 2 did not demonstrate that, the USSR (and arguably the US) proved the exact opposite by conquering entire continents. What kind of narrative even is this?
edgyquant··on Silicon Valley is transforming the military-industrial complex? (2024)
Defense was an Orwellian spin on the greatest warfighting organization in the history of the world. This quote does nothing to change anything but is some weird appeal to authority when no authority is needed
edgyquant··on Defining AI Psychosis. Part 2: "Prolific AI Psychosis"
It absolutely could be the case a person in a manic episode lays off a bunch of people that wouldn’t be out of the question at all
edgyquant··on Silicon Valley is transforming the military-industrial complex? (2024)
I don’t know I think it’s really rich to see people who’ve spent a generation hooking the world on dopamine machines and making society full of hate suddenly act like those who work in the MIC are “going to far.”

People working at big tech are complicit in the destruction of communities and the mass depression and suicide of our youth, compared to that wanting your country to have the best military tech is altruistic. Military tech isn’t the problem foreign policy is, you can’t say the same about slop factory builders.

edgyquant··on Defining AI Psychosis. Part 2: "Prolific AI Psychosis"
Making bad financial decisions is a symptom of mania though

I always love the “paranoid fantasy” one because all electrics are spy devices and they are spying on you
edgyquant··on Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production?
It tells an agent what tools are available and the scenarios when they should be called. This does a ton of work when working with agents
edgyquant··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
Everyone calls it chat. I am technical and even I’ve come around to calling it that because that is what everyone, including very technical people, call the product.
edgyquant··on De-Brainrot Vacations
Just this this weekend got a cabin on the Mississippi and went totally no phones or tv. Wife and I spent the weekend reading, doing yoga and playing checkers.
edgyquant··on Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production?
Mcp just wraps the existing calls with a description of when to use them. Why would you write a cli for something like this? And clis generally have a help call but that doesn’t say when to use a tool just what it does
edgyquant··on Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production?
You first authenticate via the phone (you can run an initial api call on phone start,) save session credentials in state on 11labs side and can then pass them back to future tool calls. You can then authenticate via a passcode if you wish
edgyquant··on Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production?
Even with a cli it doesn’t have a nice list of all commands and a nice description of when to call such a tool
edgyquant··on Ask HN: Who is using MCP in production?
MCP is not just a rest api its a layer on top
edgyquant··on Google avoids a breakup of its ad tech business
Can you give an example of what you’re saying here? Companies spin up and vanish?
edgyquant··on Google avoids a breakup of its ad tech business
It’s quite literally not analogous as breaking up companies has happened a bunch but no one has ever unscrambled an omelet
edgyquant··on Evidence of Fraud in an Influential Study About Procrastination
Sure but I mean the community as a whole. Why has there been allowed to be a reproducibility problem at all? Why has the consensus not always been that without provably reproducible results it’s not to be taken seriously?
edgyquant··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
There are two possibilities. One is that half the country are total idiots and the people leading them, and leading the country, are also total idiots who only got into power because half the country are, again, complete idiots below average intelligence.

The other is that you are in a bubble and have been convinced that the leadership of the world’s premier superpower are below average intelligence, along with 70-80 million voters. The former is not something an intelligent person would believe, you have thrown out serious analysis for political theatre and memes and should rethink how you view the world. Now stop to consider that maybe actually half the country has a totally different worldview, and that their leadership, having reshaped global politics, is actually full of intelligent people who are cold and calculating. I know it’s harder to stomach, but just consider it for a moment.

edgyquant··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (September 2026)
Looking for freelance ops, preferably with early/seed stage startups.

I'm located in Madison, WI, happy to work with remote founders or if you're close enough meet in person.

Have been a 2x founding engineer TrustedFor (YC19) and DigiBuild (YC22) and also cofounded Politech/Promota AI (though I left there in 2024 and they've pivoted from original mission.) I'm currently building Worldwide Studios (worldwide-studios.org) and we're a bootstrapped non-profit so been doing client work to pay the bills.

At startups I've been a jack of all trades so my background is as an engineer (later "tech lead manager" type) but I've helped with content creation, team building and all of the things. Not looking for full time ops or to become an employee but I love working with early stage founders and startups and always happy to share my knowledge or just roll up my sleeves and help get over the hill.

You can see my linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/dylaneholland/

Github http://github.com/DylanEHolland

You can contact me directly dylaneholland [at] gmail.com or here's my calendly https://calendly.com/dylaneholland/coach-dylan

I'm also on workatastartup though not sure how to share a public url

Another annoyance is the “genres” in your liked songs. They change seemingly at random and when you select a genre eg country it has the most ass backwards way of grouping songs so I’ll get rap songs playing despite having selected folk or whatever
edgyquant··on Evidence of Fraud in an Influential Study About Procrastination
That’s different as I don’t think anyone needs science to feel the benefits of yoga or breathwork but lots of people want to enact policies based social studies that are not able to be reproduced.
edgyquant··on Evidence of Fraud in an Influential Study About Procrastination
Why do we even accept anything as true without replication by default?
edgyquant··on Agent memory as a file format
No it isn’t? There is no database and no querying for specific words. An llm reads a big ass block of text and determines if any of those lines are applicable, that is nothing like a database being queried
edgyquant··on Agent memory as a file format
How does it sound like rag exactly? Rag queries a database and injects the results memory doesn’t do this
edgyquant··on Agent Memory as a File Format
Memory isn’t the same thing as rag it’s usually just a text based index of past events and the llm reads it and decides what’s important rather than querying a db
