edgarvaldes··on India's top court angry after junior judge cites fake AI-generated orders
Is this a solved problem using the right tools?
edgarvaldes··on Cognitive Debt: When Velocity Exceeds Comprehension
You might lose context of a specific project over time, but not of the language itself. When you're no longer involved with the project's implementation or the programming language itself, what remains?
edgarvaldes··on Banned in California
Let's be honest: People have no problem polluting elsewhere as long as they can consume the final product without suffering the consequences. TFA isn't important to the people of California.
edgarvaldes··on Claws are now a new layer on top of LLM agents
Perhaps the whole cybersecurity theatre is just that, a charade. The frenzy for these tools proves it. IoT was apparently so boring that the main concern was security. AI is so much fun that for the vast majority of hackers, programmers and CTOs, security is no longer just an afterthought; it's nonexistent. Nobody cares.
edgarvaldes··on Claws are now a new layer on top of LLM agents
Tech enthusiast vs tech savvy
edgarvaldes··on Show HN: Micasa – track your house from the terminal
Super cool. Installed. It would be great if the f and b keys for moving between navigation elements circle back to the first element once reached its end.
edgarvaldes··on My smart sleep mask broadcasts users' brainwaves to an open MQTT broker
Interesting position in a thread about the dangers of exposing yourself to the internet.
edgarvaldes··on We’re more patient with AI than with each other
With a program or machine, I can cut the interaction at any time, walk away and not feel rude.
edgarvaldes··on Overconsumption is a spiritual problem
The points in the essay are not as exaggerated or extreme as some comments suggest. I think the central message is simple: we acquire and accumulate things we don't need for psychological or spiritual reasons, and we need to regularly introspect on our attitudes toward spending.
edgarvaldes··on Show HN: Gemini Pro 3 imagines the HN front page 10 years from now
HN users: Let's ban AI comments in threads.

HN users, later the same day: Let's vote an AI thread to the top.

edgarvaldes··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
Sideloading is the only reason I'm on Android. When it goes away, I will be better with an Apple device.
edgarvaldes··on Windows XP Professional
Maybe this is the "running Doom" of the UI/UX crowd.
edgarvaldes··on The Book Cover Trend of Text on Old Paintings
A forever trend for classical music album covers.
edgarvaldes··on What “working” means in the era of AI apps
I thought this was going to be about apps barely working if created by vibe coding.
edgarvaldes··on Apple Notes Expected to Gain Markdown Support in iOS 26
This is the most alien (to me) workflow that I have ever read in HN. And that includes emacs.
edgarvaldes··on Big banks explore venturing into crypto world together with joint stablecoin
Same in Mexico. I just did a bank transfer that took longer than usual. It took around 10 minutes instead of 10 seconds. It was unusual for me.
edgarvaldes··on Raising Kids to Have an Analog Childhood in a Digital World
My attempts to limit my children's screen time all fail when I stage activities for them. But I soon as I try to use my watercolours, my musical instruments or any other passtime of my own, my kids drop the devices and try to do the same activity with me. Its tiresome and charming at the same time.
edgarvaldes··on Some Reflections After a Month of Tracking My Own Online Activity
Nice analysis. I cant do something similar, because I use a myriad of devices. Since last week I have tried to simply spend less time on the phone. I want to gradually get to <1 hr a week.
edgarvaldes··on Windows 11 is closing a loophole that let you skip making a Microsoft account
I actively avoid using a MS account on my local Windows machines. Until last week when I logged into Teams and Windows activated that account as the Windows account on the next boot. The problem is: I was using my wife's laptop. I dunno how to remove the account without creating more problems.
edgarvaldes··on Export Predefined Regions in Krita
>Please fork for changes

I like this direct and sensible approach.

edgarvaldes··on The Era of Solopreneurs Is Here
Yeah the premise of the article is totally wrong.
edgarvaldes··on AI is killing some companies, yet others are thriving – let's look at the data
>Reading that defined Quora in my mind for the next few years.

Because he was an impersonator? Or because he really was Joe Bloe?

edgarvaldes··on Johnny.Decimal – A system to organise your life
Is there any solution that works inside Google Docs? The lack of a native tree view in GD is a big stopper for me.
edgarvaldes··on Johnny.Decimal – A system to organise your life
Sometimes autocomplete works for me, so I avoid the "auto" vs "automobile" but it falls apart as soon as I realize I have "autombile" suggested and now I wonder what to do to re-tag files.
edgarvaldes··on DeaDBeeF: The Ultimate Music Player
Plexamp is a good player for your local files (personal server) that you can stream.
edgarvaldes··on Working with Files Is Hard (2019)
As per HN headlines, files are hard, git is hard, regex is hard, time zones are hard, money as data type is hard, hiring is hard, people is hard.

I wonder what is easy.

edgarvaldes··on Australian Open resorts to animated caricatures to bypass broadcast restrictions
Last FIFA World Cup I was looking for recaps on Youtube after the day's matches. A lot of results were unofficial videogame recreations (think XBox EA Sports FC) of the real match final score. It was very weird.
edgarvaldes··on 2k-year-old wine and the uncanny immediacy of the past
Not as old, but I loved reading about this:

350 year old paper cuttings found under Sutton House floorboards go on display [0]

It really feels immediate

edgarvaldes··on Battle Scenes depicted in moving pictures before CGI
Watched it some days ago for the first time, incredible battle scenes.
edgarvaldes··on All clocks are 30 seconds late
If you use round instead of floor an error persists. So all clocks that don't show seconds are always wrong.
