edem··on $3.3B of the ~$40 billion of USDC reserves remain at SVB
stETH also depegged at some point, and I made thousands of dollars by buying it at a deep discount. Then the peg was restored even though there was nothing backing it apart from locked ETH in staking pools. The USDC de-peg is pretty similar.
edem··on Ruby on Jets: Like Rails but serverless
We should have buried Ruby along with Flash a while ago. It is not part of the future anymore (thankfully).
edem··on The number of banks willing to do business with the crypto industry is shrinking
> Why would I want to own a coin that someone else is able to freely devalue

The same stands for USD and any other fiat currency. All of which are being debased right now.

edem··on It's time for an RSS revival (2018)
I'm in an unique position that I have half a year now to produce...well whatever I choose to produce. What is the thing that you're missing most?
edem··on John Carmack Leaves Meta
Given the fact that this is a throwaway account your credibility on this matter is less then zero. In fact this sounds like as if your project was shut down by Carmack and now your ego is bruised.
edem··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
That's probably because you've never used any of those.
edem··on BlockFi files for bankruptcy as FTX fallout spreads
Note that none of the truly decentralized protocols failed so far.
edem··on Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger on crypto in 2018
Eh I feel that you're dumb
edem··on Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger on crypto in 2018
Even the US Treasury said that crypto is not ideal for money laundering and the amount of money laundering happening in the space is miniscule.
edem··on Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger on crypto in 2018
DYOR before you post dumb comments.
edem··on Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger on crypto in 2018
Unfortunately you know nothing about crypto.
edem··on Web3 – An Arrogant and Treacherous Successor Doomed to Fail
you obviously know nothing about crypto.
edem··on Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger on crypto in 2018
Too bad that what they are talking about is not crypto just regular tradfi ponzi schemers who happen to have chosen crypto for their next scam.
edem··on Ask HN: Is it possible to have a structured work day in software dev?
Become a contractor. The first thing I tell everybody is "my time, my hardware, my office" and if they don't like it i move to the next one. right now i work on an MVP in q4 and i have a 5 min long standup every day and 2 1 hour meetings weekly.
edem··on CDE 2.5.1
I love CDE. I first saw it in Solaris and I still have fond memories of it.
edem··on Never pay for online dating (2010)
A funny anecdote: back in the day there was an app called Flamite that used the now defunct tinder api and you could use it to automate matchmaking. what i did is to yes everyone and then i waited a week. i had 200 matches. I then checked all profiles and removed 120 that i didn't like. i wrote to the remaining 80. i had good chats with 20 of them, met 3 of them and now I'm happily married to one.
edem··on The self-fulfilling prophecy of React
I took a look at Svelte and I think it is useless. Having a template language i stead of the syntax sugar of jsx/tsx takes the whole thing back at least 10 years (probably more).
edem··on San Francisco decriminalizes psychedelics
Can you elaborate?
edem··on Ask HN: Should I be panicking about jobs in Europe?
Unless you have a fixed mortgage. In that case the bank takes the hit for you.
edem··on Improper Nouns
I accidentally read "pronouns" and I expected the usual woke shit. I'm delighted that this article is not about that.
edem··on Launch HN: Payload (YC S22) – Headless CMS for Developers
As a developer I'd never use this. I don't want to learn the thought process of someone else just to get some work done, I can do it myself. If I want a headless CMS there are plenty of options out there.
edem··on Things not available when someone blocks all cookies
Fun fact: the code example with the glow effect was created with [Carbon](https://carbon.now.sh/)
edem··on TypeScript is terrible for library developers
As someone who has written libraries int other languages as well I have to say that library development in Typescript is awesome. Library development in general sucks. You just have to do a lot more things compared to product development, it is not Typescript's fault.

Also, I've never had to use conditional types in my life. I think you're over-complicating things.

edem··on How to drive away your best engineers
Once I worked for a company which I prefer not to name here. They wanted to solve a huge problem which I have solved during my previous tenure elsewhere. Once I learned that they are trying to do this I offered my help. I realized that they picked someone with zero experience with this who was about to make the same mistake(s) I made before. I managed to talk with the VP about this problem and after about half an hour I realized that the person who was responsible for this decision not only didn't know anything about software development, but he also didn't know what the problem was and why we wanted to solve it. A day after this talk I've heard that a very high level IC resigned so I had a talk with him. As it turns out he also worked on this problem before and spent 3 months trying to make his point about this and after he utterly failed he just couldn't take it anymore. I also resigned a few months later. Having managers that have no idea about how programs are written and how the whole process works is a surefire way to sink the ship. Needless to say this organization had layers after layers of managers who all tried to protect their turf from all the potential damage others can make.
edem··on More invested in nuclear fusion in last 12 months than past decade
False. At this point environmental impact trumps everything else in my mind.
edem··on Leaked documents reveal Amazon’s process to review employees’ worth to Amazon
Either you don't work for corporates or only work as a contractor.
edem··on Show HN: Famnom – Nutrition tracker and meal planner for families
I haven't read any of this yet, but this name is superb. I'd buy this if I had to choose blindly from 10 random tools including this one.
edem··on Ask HN: What are some cool but obscure data structures you know about?
It must be [CHAMP](https://blog.acolyer.org/2015/11/27/hamt/#:~:text=CHAMP%20st....). Acronym for Compressed Hash-Array Mapped Prefix-tree. It is a current state of the art persistent hashtable. I'm surprised that no one mentioned this before, because it is super useful!
edem··on Sound of Colleagues
I don't get this. At literally all the places I've worked were filled with people trying to shut this kind of noise out with headphones...and now we have an app that recreates this horrible noise? Why?
edem··on Web 3 is Flawed
Please throw that dart and I'll refute whatever you have to say.
