So my read of Flutter is it’s a way for talent to “ship and get promoted” inside Google or to support other Google product teams. Everyone else is a secondary priority.
Can you expand this reference please, Google/Github search didn't give me any obvious results.

Do you create actual UML diagrams or just use the shapes and constructs available in PlantUML to create a more ad-hoc diagrams?

I can resonate with this!
Organizing by feature gives you immediate feedback about 'what' the application does, instead of what framework it's written in.
I find this structure much more useful during the application's maintenance lifetime, but it does force you to think more about naming and the division of what a 'feature' is.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Non-alphanumeric characters are hostile for users to type in often. Add other peripherals like phones and a PS3 controller and it's even harder.
