eckelhesten··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
Really? I’ve never heard a Corolla be considered a fun car. It’s a point a to b car afaik.

Not to hate on your experience! They surely are reliable though.

eckelhesten··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
There’s “oh he’s at the grocery store” data,

and then there’s “he’s driving in a way we don’t like, let’s make him pay more for his insurance” data.

eckelhesten··on Palantir founder purchases large swath of forest in Sweden
Weak reason given that Sweden has something called Allemansrätten.
eckelhesten··on Google AI Studio fakes data deletion. VRP auto-banned me in 60s for reporting it
That’s not silly. Your rhetoric is.

“I don’t get it, why do people expect a promise to permanently delete your things to akshually do just that”

Such a goofball stance on the subject tbh.

Patents and greed in a combination.
eckelhesten··on US removes Syria from terrorism sponsor list, lifting major investment obstacle
That makes him a defacto leader, not legitimate by any democratic means. He is not chosen by the people, but by external governments such as the turkish dictatorship and the american oligarchic government.

Stability can be achieved without murdering and cleansing out Alawites, Kurds, christians and Druze. Only a barbaric mindset would think otherwise.

And somehow trying to whitewash them with "No terrorist attacks since 2015" shows me that you are clearly of different mindset than me. Have a good day!

eckelhesten··on US removes Syria from terrorism sponsor list, lifting major investment obstacle
Ahhh yes, he was just a little boy. And boys will be boys.

Even when they later go on to create terrorist organizations such as Jabhat al Nusra (Al Nusra Front). Boys will be boys.

Even when he got sent to Syria by Al Qaedas AQI (Which later became ISIS)

It baffles me that people like you justifies this man as a legitimate leader. Kurds and other minorities in Syria suffer immensely from this US and Turkish-forced government.

Why don't you tell the people of HN about the absolute massacre and manhunt of thousands of Alawites after Al-Julani came to power in Syria?

Technically yes, hdmi supports transmitting Ethernet. Realistically no.

If I got a dollar for every person suckered into buying Samsung products…

But to stay on topic: never! connect your tv to the internet. My LG has been offline for around 5 years now after automatically installing unwanted apps. Since then, I run everything via an Apple TV 4K which works way better than LGs own software does anyway.

eckelhesten··on Chinese chipmaker shares surge 470%
They sell the shovels, we need someone actually digging for gold.
eckelhesten··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
Small subset of prompts? You mean literally every Kreti and Pleti who lets Claude go through their entire codebase is considered ”small subset of prompts”?

Kek

eckelhesten··on Kimi K3: Open Frontier Intelligence
Not the guy you responded to, but I would assume ”they keep it safe” somewhere in a cold storage. Just in case they decide to train on it in a later phase.

Think of it as the Big Data hype some years ago.

eckelhesten··on Show HN: InstantVideos.org – short documentaries in ~30 seconds
It’s an interesting concept, perhaps it could go more from ”narrated slide show” to ”video clip” in the near future if it doesn’t cost too much.
eckelhesten··on GLM-5.2 is the new leading open weights model on Artificial Analysis
Are you using it in an agentic workflow? Just reading the codebase will consume a lot of cached tokens, but seemingly, z.ai counts these as normal input tokens the way they're rate limiting.
eckelhesten··on GLM-5.2 is the new leading open weights model on Artificial Analysis
I just read it and honestly it left an even worse taste in my mouth.

>GLM-5.2 and GLM-5-Turbo are advanced models designed to rival Claude Opus model. Its usage will be deducted at 3 × during peak hours and 2 × during off-peak hours.

Claude certainly does not punish me for using their best models. Why should this "up and coming" company do it?

I thought the up and coming ai companies was supposed to have some kind of leverage in terms of price/performance (see deepseeks insanely cheap V4 flash and pro).

eckelhesten··on GLM-5.2 is the new leading open weights model on Artificial Analysis
Try pointing it to a small codebase, or even ask it to conjure information found online.

You'll see that it quickly gives up. Thing is, they seem to count cached hits as if they were the non-cached tokens.

I wont be subscribing again thats for sure. I am not paying iPhone money for a Xiaomi.

eckelhesten··on GLM-5.2 is the new leading open weights model on Artificial Analysis
Sure, but whatever you do, don't buy their (Z.ai) lite plan.

I feel like i threw 15 dollars in the sea. I'm getting rate limited after 3-4 prompts. You get way less value than just paying 25 dollars for Claude or OpenAI models.

eckelhesten··on Microsoft announces Scout, an autonomous AI agent built on OpenClaw
Are they though? Microsoft is still in the eating paste phase of their journey. Copilot was a huge flop.
eckelhesten··on I made my phone slow on purpose
My take on detoxing from doomscroller apps was to uninstall their phone app and use their web version instead. The experience is so much less rewarding that i barely open instagram any longer. This is the only thing that worked for me. I even tried MDM:ing my devices once...
eckelhesten··on Show HN: Gaussian Splat of a Strawberry
I’m curious to why not all modern PC/console game developers use this technology to create realistic graphics in their games?

If my old phone can render it with fairly high frame rate, I’m sure a full game with realistic graphics would work well on a mid/high end PC.

eckelhesten··on Iran will impose fees on subsea internet cables in Strait of Hormuz
Ahhh yes, the mafia who got bullied and fought back.

Look, I’m all for the Iranian gov to cease. But don’t pretend that the US and it’s scoundrels aren’t the mafia and criminals in this matter.

eckelhesten··on Iran will impose fees on subsea internet cables in Strait of Hormuz
What do you think daddy NATO would do about your little network cable? You are living in a fictional world.

They’d simply tell whoever’s crying to start using dynamic routing protocols and accept the few more ms in latency.

eckelhesten··on DeepSeek V4 – almost on the frontier
That's a naive way of thinking. You're saying "oh, they are thieves in this way, but they surely wouldn't be thieves in this other way!"

If you have no problems shitting on tens of thousands of authors of books, you don't have problems shitting on your customers as well (which they have proved again and again, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook–Cambridge_Analytica_d...)

Let's just say I wholeheartedly disagree with your viewpoint and leave it there :)

eckelhesten··on DeepSeek V4 – almost on the frontier
Sure, and I won’t collect or otherwise store your credit card info if you send it to me. Trust me bro :)

No but seriously, I am astonished by the level of trust you have for these for-profit companies. I’ll remind you of this quote:

”Zuckerberg: People just submitted it. Zuckerberg: I don't know why. Zuckerberg: They "trust me" Zuckerberg: Dumb fucks”

eckelhesten··on DeepSeek V4 – almost on the frontier
Meta is based in the US, yet they torrented TERABYTES worth of books to feed their AI.

I’m not trying to be negative here, but your point is invalidated by that particular event in itself.

eckelhesten··on DeepSeek V4—almost on the frontier
Well, the context was running the models via open router, not hosting 800B> models yourself. Of course, if given the option I believe most people would pick ”don’t share sensitive data”.

What I’m trying to say is that EVERYONE uses your data, even the sensitive type. So you might aswell use an endpoint that does what it says and treat EVERY endpoint whether that’s OpenAI or anthropic as if it’s collecting all of your data.

eckelhesten··on DeepSeek V4—almost on the frontier
The models doesn’t get better by themselves. You’re naive.
eckelhesten··on DeepSeek V4 – almost on the frontier
As opposed to?

Do you really think OpenAI, Anthropic or any other entity in the same business respects your data?

The Chinese AI companies who release open weights actually deserve whatever input you give them. They are the reason why there is competition and not duopolies in the domain.

eckelhesten··on DeepSeek V4 – almost on the frontier
At least that’s what they’re telling you. It’s a ”trust me bro” scenario.

I’d rather use the phone home version (deepseeks own endpoint). The benefit is that I’m fairly certain that they actually host the model I’m paying for.
