echair··on Y Combinator Article Nominated for Deletion by Wikipedia Administrators
Ironic, perhaps, but not at all surprising. Wikipedia is a portrait of wikipedians.
echair··on Y Combinator Article Nominated for Deletion by Wikipedia Administrators
I think most people would understand "create a competitor" to entail more than the strawman of mere implementation you seem to be taking it to mean.
echair··on How can the oil speculators be responsible?
There are lots of ways to profit from causing fluctuations in prices. One is the classic "pump and dump" scheme where some speculators profit at the expense of others. In this market another way to make money would be to profit at the expense of companies that buy oil futures for their own use, like airlines.
echair··on Dell announces it is now 100% carbon neutral, 5 months ahead of schedule
Carbon offsets aren't merely securities. You're actually buying power.
echair··on Ask YC: What is the hardest part of creating a web app?
Making something (new) that people want.
echair··on Xkcd - Linux, a cautionary tale
Goes to show there are downarrows on comments but not front page links.
echair··on YC is a cult
It's just the classic hacker username convention: rms, jmc, rtm, pg, gls, esr, tlb.
echair··on Why Apple Must Tell Its Story (Apple after Jobs)
"Marketer Needs to Lay Out Succession Plan"

To AdAge, Apple is a "marketer?" Do they not even have a word for a company that builds things?

echair··on NFL player IQ by position
They originate from a higher latitude than they like to think. That's why they look so different from sephardic Jews. (But this is also a controversial topic.)
echair··on Throw out that five-year plan, build something now, and don't take any money
they wanted the man

And to cash out individually, I suspect.

echair··on Apple's free pass on open source
Seems more likely that it's just that they don't want spammers and cheaters to know what their defenses are.
echair··on Technical co-founder needed for Studeous
I'm almost certainly not permitted to use a grade management system besides the one my university provides, certainly not a third party one. That would violate student privacy.

Are you allowed to use a notebook?

echair··on Please critique my idea: Prior Art
I doubt that making an idea public online will make it unpatentable

Actually it will. To avoid repetition:

echair··on Please critique my idea: Prior Art
An idea has to be novel to be patentable. If someone else has already published the idea, it's not novel. It doesn't matter whether they built one.

Incidentally, prior art isn't something someone "claims." It's something a patent has to avoid.

echair··on Who runs the world?
It's a bit much to jump on someone for giving a frivolous answer when you've posted 2 on this thread yourself.
echair··on Work Less, Give Your Customers Less... and Succeed Like 37Signals
William C. Taylor is an agenda-setting thinker, writer, and entrepreneur.

Kind of frightening when you remember that bios on a site like this are probably written by the authors themselves...

echair··on Thanks for using my code, Google
maybe they even recoded it from scratch

Even when Google buys a startup they usually rewrite everything.

echair··on [dead]
Smart move, mhartl. Now 30 people will vote this up in 2 hours, and the next top story will be about PG too.
