eatwater123··on Researchers have developed a beef-rice hybrid
This is the funniest thing I've seen on the internet in a while. A reality where people are challenged to arm wrestling competitions because of what they eat is hilarious (and completely ridiculous - I would laugh my face off if someone started telling me how they bench more than me when I order vegetarian food at a restaurant)
eatwater123··on From Ruby to Node: Overhauling Shopify’s CLI for a better developer experience
Cool. But god, the Shopify CLI / developer experience has degraded so much in the past few years. With the newest iteration, they want a full app re-structure just to work with the CLI properly. It is absolutely brutal.

Sure, before they had basically no tooling, but then they had some basic ones that everyone was basically happy with, and then they just decided to iterate too much.

(saying this as a ~ 8 year long Partner / Expert / App Developer)

I've spoken to some Shopify employees and they all agreed that the developer teams are a bit of a mess. It seems like nobody managing the developer products are actually using the end results, otherwise they'd realize the hoops needed to work through (unless you are starting a brand new project right now --- and hoping that they don't decide to change it all, like they have 5 times in the past 3 years)

eatwater123··on Removing SMS support from Signal Android (soon)
Yeah, I can understand that; but I've brought over various older family members, and non-tech friends (as in people that wouldn't have ever heard the words Discord or Telegram before in their lives) to Signal. That's who this will impact most.
eatwater123··on Removing SMS support from Signal Android (soon)
This is an awful decision. I've converted some friends and family to Signal over the past years (it took a while) and it is now their default messaging app on their phones. This is going to confuse them and is going to make it difficult for me to keep convincing them that Signal is the route to use. ("Why do I need 3 apps (Android Messages, Signal, Whatsapp) to talk to people?")

Link doesn't work for me for some reason.
eatwater123··on Notes: Fast note-taking app, open-source, without Electron, built in Qt C++
Don't see anything about importing existing notes into the app, is this possible?
eatwater123··on SomaFM
My favourite. Please remember to donate if you can! A little slice of internet & music heaven.

Improving cow's lives though :)
eatwater123··on Never use MongoDB (2013)
Unless you want to.
eatwater123··on Ask HN: Great fiction books that have had a positive impact on your life?
Man, the negativity in this thread is hilarious
eatwater123··on Ask HN: Great fiction books that have had a positive impact on your life?
Counterpoint: I can absolutely imagine myself re-reading TBP series multiple times; I've already re-read it once since reading it a year and a bit ago.
eatwater123··on Show HN: Explore related artists on spotify through a network of nodes
This is neat! It gets a bit too cluttered when I'm just trying to look at new artists though, maybe make a click listen to the artist, but maybe double click to 'expand' them? Good stuff either way!
eatwater123··on Fastmail – 20 Years Old
Hi! Thanks for the great service/product. Is there any possible roadmap for offline mail access on mobile in the future? I really can't be the only one that needs to access my email at various times without cell reception/wifi.
eatwater123··on Fastmail – 20 Years Old
Yeah, I've just got Gmail as a 'native' app. Which sort of defeats the purpose of switching to Fastmail for me hah.
eatwater123··on Fastmail – 20 Years Old
Fastmail is probably the more 'open' of the two; in the sense that you can use any mail client to access your emails without a need for a bridge or anything.
eatwater123··on Fastmail – 20 Years Old
Fastmail is fantastic, no complaints at all.... besides the mobile app.

I don't care about the speed or glitches or whatever others may complain about, but I travel way too much to have no offline email access on my phone.

So this turns into me having 2 email apps on my phone (Android); one to do stuff in (Fastmail) and another (K-9 which is not great to write/do stuff in) that just sits there, likely hogging battery life, receiving emails and storing them so that I can read them / access them while in an airplane/foreign country/bad connection spot.

If they fix this I would be overjoyed.

eatwater123··on Selling My Bootstrapped SaaS Business (2017)
But like; it was a Shopify plugin, so saying it can be replaced by another plugin (for a different platform completely) doesn't make sense here, right?
eatwater123··on My own private Iceland
From my experience, the glory in Iceland is absolutely not found in the golden circle. The rest of the country is mind-boggingly empty and gorgeous. The interior looks like a complete different planet, the western fjords are stunning, and then when you do eventually come across another human; they are incredibly nice and welcoming.
