earlyadapter··on Cook: 'This Is Not What Should Be Happening in This Country'
Remember Steve Job's vision for Apple has always been a closed system end to end... He was security minded before the net. It is a shame that the government has taken the low road by trying this case in the court of public opinion after they permanently locked themselves out of the iphone! The worse part is using the grieving victim's families to make Apple look like the bad guys. I kind of wish Job's was alive for this fight! Tim Cook can't say it, but 14 people killed by some kooks vs millions of people's safety being intentionally compromised is not a bargain. 14 people die in mass shooting Damn near every month! What happened to good police work? Doesn't the NSA have everyone's communication data on a server somewhere anyway? If the government in the business of ordering businesses to work against their interest for the sake of public safety, where is the court order for tobacco companies to permanently stop selling cigarettes. Cigarettes kill hundreds of thousands of people each year. Luckily Apple is sitting on enough cash to fight this... I just hope their stock price and future aren't hurt by this deliberate attempt to assassinate their brand.
earlyadapter··on The Personal Airplane Is Taking Off
i agree. Hurry-Up Syndrome and inadvertent flights into IMC are 2 of the biggest causes. Pilots should always be extremely cautious and well prepared. Safety is paramount at all times.
earlyadapter··on [dead]
In the middle of working on a doc and I get a message that the doc doesn't exist!!!!
earlyadapter··on Google Drive seems to be down
Yeah this is killing me!!! In DC and my drive went down in the middle of working... better solution?
earlyadapter··on Why You Should Apply to Y Combinator
Happy to hear, especially after exiting an industry that prides itself on how much you can spend and how little work you can accomplish! BTW, I took you up on your offer and zipped out an email. Thanks for posting!
earlyadapter··on Elon Musk says ‘If you don’t make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple’
Definitely a poor culture fit. Sort of like the story Airbnb CEO Chesky has told about not buying the Samwer bros copycat site in Europe. If Apple is going to compete, they have to take their best and brightest offsite and let them dig in deep. Should be able to do it for $2b. But a HUGE upside if they get it right.
earlyadapter··on Elon Musk says ‘If you don’t make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple’
Musk is drawing a clear line in the sand between the new school and the old school... I guess Apple is now Big Blue and Musk just threw a sledge hammer at Tim Cook on the screen?
earlyadapter··on Steve Jobs, the Movie, Gets One Crucial Thing Wrong About Steve Jobs
For some reason I just don't buy Michael Fassbender as Jobs... Unlike the portrayal of lesser known Mark Zuckerbeg in "The Social Network", we have all been exposed to Jobs, his unique look and mannerisms. I will reserve any further criticism until after viewing the movie, as I do enjoy Sorkin’s work.
earlyadapter··on YC Research
After the collapse of Bell Labs and the inefficiencies at the University level, this is an effort that can truly impact change.

True fundamental innovation takes 15+years... stable ecosystems (govt policies, strong economies etc) are needed to foster this type innovation. YC is definitely a stable environment to foster fundamental inno.

Fundamental innovation also creates new methodologies in two or three areas, whether it be technology, market or implementation. Everything else is incremental innovation (new tech enhancing products in a known market), this can be achieved in 1 to 3 years. Kudos YC!

earlyadapter··on Trans-Pacific Partnership Trade Deal Is Reached
Happy to see someone who understands that pork barrel spending was THE currency Congressman had in order to secure votes needed for important bills. That is truly how compromise was achieved.
earlyadapter··on Why all new tech startups have stupid names
I find this issue to be crazy yet creatively stimulating at the same time... I have spent tons of hours trying to find alternative spellings of my startups in order to find available URLs. I just sit on the GoDaddy app searching. One thing I noticed is it seems that GoDaddy engages in squatting and reselling as "Premium" URLs...
earlyadapter··on Google's driverless car is brilliant but so boring
Partly because Google has zero style... They need to stick to software. There is no sexiness at Google. They don't invest in Graphic or Industrial designers, just engineers. Google Glass is a prime example... I would never be caught wearing something so ugly, even if it was my life support system... Speaking of life support systems, Darth Vader is a prime example of stylish, yet functional wearable tech lol!
earlyadapter··on London Tops Silicon Valley for Tech Talent, but There's a Catch
Totally agree... California is a much better environment... and non compete's stifle innovation and creativity, similar to excessive IP protection terms.
earlyadapter··on Blackberry: Is This the New Droid You're Looking For?
May be too much, too late
earlyadapter··on Lily Camera Uses Computer Vision for Autonomous Flying
I agree... I have noticed how annoying the ubiquitous sound of scooters is in Europe and would hate to hear the sound of drones all over the place.
earlyadapter··on Lily Camera Uses Computer Vision for Autonomous Flying
I also am leery of the steadiness of the camera. The camerais housed inside of the body of Lily. More sophisticated units by DGI and 3D utilize external gimbals to achieve a steadicam effect
earlyadapter··on Lily Camera Uses Computer Vision for Autonomous Flying
In theory and on the demo video this is dope... but things to think of:new firmware is glitchy, no object sensor and can run into something and a built in battery that can't be replaced (and will need to be eventually)
earlyadapter··on This Album Changed My Life and Career Path:ATCQ 25th Year Re Release
A Tribe Called Quest is a seminal group in Hip Hop History. Without their production, we would not have a Pharrell Williams or Kanye West.
earlyadapter··on Cable Robot Simulator [video]
This would actually be dope for flight training. As a student pilot there are some things like unusual attitudes training, that rely on motion to fool the senses.
earlyadapter··on Bantu expansion shows that habitat alters the route and pace of human dispersals
Yup, my MIT professor Eugene Fitzgerald's book, "Inside Real Innovation". Enjoy the read!
earlyadapter··on Aerial Construction – Building structures with flying machines
With regard to line of sight and commercial drone operations in the US, POTUS issued a memo for the FAA and related govt agencies to figure out how to safely integrate UAVs into the NAS (National Air Space). The most immediate result has been the FAA's issuance of Section 333 Exemptions.

Within the Section 333 Exemption there is language regarding being able to see the drones that specifically states: the UA must be operated within VSOL (visual line of flight) of the Pilot in Command and all operations must use a Visual Observer; the UA must remain within VSOL of the visual oberserver; and the VO and PIC must be able to communicate verbally at all times (precludes texting or e messaging) during the flight.

The FAA has gone even further by requiring PICs be actual FAA licensed pilots.

This language works well for most commercial uses (construction, agriculture and photography) but virtually kills Amazon's hopes for an unmanned delivery network.

It is said that true fundamental innovation in a technological sense takes 15+years... stable ecosystems (govt policies, strong economies etc) are needed to foster this innovation. Fundamental innovation also creates new methodologies in two or three areas, whether it be tech, market or implementation.

Everything else is incremental innovation (new tech enhancing products in a known market), this can be achieved in 1 to 3 years.
