e40··on Git 3.0's upcoming SHA-256 default will be a costly mistake
> blow up 20 years of ecosystem?

What does that mean?

e40··on macOS Golden Gate Is a Buggy Mess
The Finder bug is very annoying.
e40··on Microsoft abandons personal AI chatbot race with Copilot reboot
I remeber a comment here from last year(?) that detailed all the distinct marketing uses of the word copilot. There were like 30, I think.
e40··on Palantir's Co-Founder Wants Us Less Judgmental About Deadly Iran School Strike
Add that him and Thiel are billionaires and it gets terrifying.
e40··on Allegations of sexual harassment and rape at Bay Area AI party houses
> Today these so-called hacker houses are driven by missions, like the advancement of humanity, and have become critical nodes for the A.I.

What complete nonsense.

e40··on Welcome to the Medical Clinic at the Interplanetary Relay Station
43 hours is a long time. Do they provide food for those waiting?
e40··on I said no and Apple said yes
Ads in macOS? Never once saw one.

The same Judith Miller that helped justifythe Iraq invasion?
e40··on An Update on Wayback Machine Access
I say name and shame!
e40··on Data collected by cars and sold to third parties
Is there usually a fuse that just turns off the telemetry? I would be surprised if that is the case. I could see the design being "if you turn this fuse off to turn off telemetry, you'll also lose these functions: ..." and if they did it "right" they'd make the car non-functional.

My car is from 2011 and I do wonder if there is any telemetry in it.

e40··on Homebrew 7.0.0
Definitely notice the speed increase. Thank you for Homebrew. It's one thing that makes macOS bearable.
e40··on New York thoracic surgeon: "For many patients 9/11 is not over"
The clearly doesn’t support your assertion. “Repeatedly” is a missing ingredient here.
e40··on A burst of "pink noise" may lead to more restorative sleep
I wonder if this is why I love the sound of rain at night when I was a kid?
e40··on A burst of "pink noise" may lead to more restorative sleep
Just a bug or unintended consequence of something else?
e40··on How to buy a good car for $1000
This using fork lifts to move cars is crazy. When the car runs why tf do it?! Seen many YT channels show it happening and there is almost always damage.
e40··on I spent $220 on Google app ads and 60% of the installs were robots
Who benefits from the fraud, though?

I switched to YouTube Music and I miss the Spotify UI.
e40··on ICE to use robot dogs from Boston Dynamics in deportation operations
It also feels like an alpha test, without risk were it to be conducted on citizens.
e40··on Notes on Private Trackers
I recently downloaded all 10 seasons of The French Chef. I doubt it would have been possible to find them in consistent quality, or at all. They are from the 1960s.
e40··on Ex-Crips leader found guilty in 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur
— MF DOOM feat. Mr. Fantastik
e40··on Memo to Ridley Scott: no one needs more Alien: Covenant movies
Hard disagree. Even though both movies had their issues, there is a lot of interesting directions the 3rd movie could go.
e40··on An investigation into the state of corvid–human relations
It may seem like every crow from the Bay is there, but that’s very unlikely. Their territory isn’t very large, typically a 100 acres.

Gatherings are very noisy affairs, and that amplifies the numbers.

e40··on An investigation into the state of corvid–human relations
I have seen many times a group of crows harassing a hawk. They are unrelenting. OTOH, I have seen a hawk eating a crow. It’s a delicate balance of power.
e40··on An investigation into the state of corvid–human relations
We have crows we feed. They sometimes will come to the back door and caw really softly. Clearly it’s a “hey, I’m here, can I have sone peanuts?” It feels really nice when they do that.
e40··on The Tariff Cost: analysis of the costs to Americans from new tariffs on Canada
So, like regular bullies who aren’t President.

He is absolutely a life-long bully.

e40··on Rubio Uses Terrorism Law to Ban Secure Email Service
> I don't know if the upheaval Trump is causing is sufficient in scale that it will be visible in US growth rates.

The problem is the lag. It allows for the responsible party to escape ownership of creating the problem. And of course the responsible party’s party will just finger point at the other party and say “they did this to you!!”

e40··on Trade (and Tariffs)
Yeah, tarrifs are a step in a plan to bring back manufacturing. The last step. I don’t remember where I saw the breakdown of how to do it. It was detailed by an expert, the kind that this administration wants to do with, lest said expert disagree with POTUS and hurt his feelings.
e40··on Show HN: FnScribe – Open-source, offline dictation for macOS
Are you aware of Spokenly? It has a local mode that uses Apple’s built in services. I bind it to right command and use it frequently for hard to spell words.
