dylmye··on I tried building my startup entirely on European infrastructure
Lettermint offers "broadcast" emails which is essentially marketing
dylmye··on UK consulting on bringing in social media ban for under 16s
Will they consult any of the under-16s they're targeting? Or just those who "know what's best"
dylmye··on The Overcomplexity of the Shadcn Radio Button
I much prefer React Aria's components. Yes fuck Adobe but take their RadioGroup for example: https://react-aria.adobe.com/RadioGroup Much better than shadcn's in terms of deps and LOC, and it uses an input. All of their components are built for accessibility first.
dylmye··on NPM package 'debug' v4.4.2 contains malware
The two listed collaborators of the debug package have over 700 packages published collectively, many of them with millions of weekly downloads. What could possibly go wrong when their token is compromised?
dylmye··on Oracle dumps Terraform for OpenTofu
I just wish Terraform would let me be a grown up and see sensitive values in an output without going through so many hoops.
dylmye··on Write OpenAPI with TypeSpec
Writing OpenAPI by hand sucks, this looks fantastic. The only reason I prefer generators from code comments is because the structure and the code itself live in the same place, so it's harder to forget.
dylmye··on Ente: Open-Source, E2E Encrypted, Google Photos Alternative
I'm very interested in Ente's thoughts on the impact of first class support for self hosting on their revenue
dylmye··on Android now lets you transfer eSIMs between your phones
I've used Nomad (https://www.getnomad.app/), they usually have a 10-25% code somewhere. I've had no issues and used them 10s of times.
dylmye··on Zotero for Android available for beta tests
Zotero got me through university. If their app supports Chromebook this could make them even more useful for new students on a budget.
dylmye··on Placemark is going open source and shutting down
Actual Budget (https://actualbudget.org) - I'm not connected to them but I use their software on a daily basis and it's still well maintained.
dylmye··on Please Don't Ask If an Open Source Project Is Dead
> They can be picked up and worked upon at any time by anybody, even if many years have passed since they were last developed.

Assuming it's maintainable and not the illegible scrawlings of someone crazy, sometimes software is just some random folk in Nebraska's pet project and it's been dropped for something shinier/they gained employment.

dylmye··on Websites That Changed the World (2006)
After the whole Easy Life situation[1] I'm completely over them. What scummy business practices.

dylmye··on Show HN: Paisa – Open-Source Personal Finance Manager
you should check out Actual budget as well - works perfectly for me in the same situation.
dylmye··on [dead]
Please let me know if I made any mistakes, I am a long time lurker, first time submitter on HN :) Also accepting all criticism of my blog writing, as I am quite a novice at that too.
