dylanz··on Palantir founder purchases large swath of forest in Sweden
He's a huge cross country skier so he probably wants his own little playground
dylanz··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
I don't think Palantir is concerned? Palantir is LLM agnostic and holds IL5, IL6, compliance with ICD 503, etc. Their entire platform is built around eliminating risk.
dylanz··on Zed DeltaDB
I started using Zed a couple weeks ago and immediately had issues with copy/paste/buffer on an M1 Mac. I tried a few suggested fixes and they didn't work.
dylanz··on Extreme Heat conference cancelled due to extreme heat warning
I live in Las Vegas and one year at the start of summer my AC went out. It took a week to order the part needed and make the fix. I lived out of casinos for that week (using HotelTonight to get a different place each night) and it was pretty fun. I gained 10lbs. That said, AC's are a necessity out here.
dylanz··on Steam Machine launches today
Yeah I understand I can get a much better gaming PC at much lower price point but that was kind of the point I was trying to make. I'm in a position where I'd happily pay more for convenience and I know many other people who feel the same way. I think there is a huge market here and this isn't a dead-on-arrival situation at all. Valve knows this.
dylanz··on Steam Machine launches today
I think it's far from dead-on-arrival. I don't want to buy a PC, put it in a garage, etc. I want a little box I can easily hook up to my TV and play Steam games on. This scratches that itch. I'm old and want convenience. I know a lot of other people in my peer group who are going to pick one up too. Also I don't play any competitive games where I care about anti-cheat. I just want to play my RPG/JRPG's on a big screen and I want it to be plug-n-play.
dylanz··on How many of the 170k English words do you know?
+1 to all these points especially the first one. I dropped off after about 10 words and didn't have a clear path to move to the next level.
dylanz··on Taking a walk may lead to more creativity than sitting, study finds (2014)
I just bought a WalkingPad M2 and my first day on it was yesterday. I usually sit on my couch while working. I walked about 6 miles yesterday instead! I woke up with sore calves and I think I'm getting blisters but these are probably good signs.
dylanz··on Rubish: A Unix shell written in pure Ruby
I've used bash for 20+ years. I've tried so many other shells but always go back to bash. Thanks Brian!
dylanz··on Ghostty is leaving GitHub
Hah! I was too. I was at a bar with Chris trying to convince him to base the company off of hg instead of git but they already had the domain name and had already started building it.
dylanz··on Ghostty is leaving GitHub
13274 here!
dylanz··on “Erdos problem #728 was solved more or less autonomously by AI”
Does it work on cryptography? Can it find out the methods behind the fourth Kryptos problem?
dylanz··on Building more with GPT-5.1-Codex-Max
> Claude basically disregards your instructions (CLAUDE.md) entirely

Does anyone know of a way to fix this? Claude constantly disregards my CLAUDE.md. I put a decent amount of time into it and it's pretty much worthless without explicitly telling it to reference it before each prompt.

dylanz··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
Climbing easy routes in a gym is pretty low impact. It’s only when you start to move into really hard crimps or slopers where you’ll hurt yourself. I was a climber bum for years and have climbed crazy stuff around the world and never hurt myself to where I couldn’t type. A lot of bloody tape, but still able to type.
dylanz··on Show HN: I built a synthesizer based on 3D physics
This is insane. I've used tons of virtual synths in my life but this is by far the coolest I've ever seen. Mick's video was amazing!
dylanz··on GSA Eliminates 18F
This sucks for accessibility.
dylanz··on Show HN: I got laid off from Meta and created a minor hit on Steam
I haven't played your game but I've watched a ton of Real Civil Engineer's videos on it. It looks like a blast and I love watching his videos. How did you get into game development? Congratulations on the success!
dylanz··on Egg prices are soaring. Are backyard chickens the answer?
Great points! I agree with everything you said here with exception to the point about it not being a monetary solution. I've built an "extremely" janky coop for almost no cost in the past. At one point I got absolutely sick of eggs because there were so many than I ended up trading neighbors for other goods. The whole thing ended up making/saving me a ton of money in the end. Let me reiterate how unsafe this coop was however... it was as spacious as it was dangerous (very).
dylanz··on Show HN: Air traffic control radio and chill music for focus
I’ve been listening to SomaFM since 2000! Legendary station.

/me reinstalls electric sheep
dylanz··on Nintendo announces the Switch 2 [video]
Agree completely. I loved Tears and didn’t once think it looked bad in any way. It was a very clever game and made me feel like a kid again. That’s what I’m looking for in a Nintendo game. I’ll jump on my PS5 if I want to be wowed graphically.
dylanz··on I had to take down my course-swapping site or be expelled
Pick up a phone and call a lawyer. If any lawyers have already hit you up about this, talk to them.

dylanz··on GitHub was down
Who's the Bozo Doofus maintainer? https://yhbt.net/unicorn/LATEST. I love that we can still see Unicorn in action. I rarely had problems with it back in the day.
dylanz··on IAC sold 17 apps to Bending Spoons. $100M deal, all 330 employees fired
Private equity playbook
dylanz··on In 2024, please switch to Firefox
I unfortunately switched back to Chrome last week after having used Firefox for years due to not being able to use sites I frequent. I constantly ran into issues with Heroku, GCP (go figure), and a few financial sites I'd log into regularly.
dylanz··on Mitchell reflects as he departs HashiCorp
I remember hacking on the same Ruby projects as you, then running into you the same way in the Erlang world. Man, that was almost 15 years ago! You’ve built some awesome stuff along the way… congrats, and keep hackin’!!
dylanz··on MGM is down, cybersecurity attack ongoing
I live in Vegas and it also sucks for all the local MGM employees that are getting called in to have to deal it. That said, I hope things get figured out and your trip goes well!
