Great news for this site's most prolific spammer!

One might wish to avoid overbought and uniquely unethical companies.

I mean a custom index, but not one of those fintech apps with small limits on the number of stocks.

These are another source of obselence. Intel generally sets an "End of Servicing Updates" date at seven years post-launch.

dustyharddrive··on Git-PR: patch requests over SSH
> every email through "git send-email" contains my original IP address for everyone to see

Is this the fault of git or your SMTP provider? I looked through a mailman archive and couldn't find my client IP address. The first Received headers refer to my email host.

dustyharddrive··on Winamp is not going open source. Here's what it is doing – and why
> The current owner, Llama Group, has plans for the app that are not open-source compatible.

> Instead, ... "Winamp will remain the owner of the software and will decide on the innovations made in the official version."

> While Winamp hasn't said yet what license it will use for this forthcoming version, it cannot be open source with that level of corporate control.

Making the generous assumption they end up with an OSI-approved license...

Why gatekeep open source behind open contribution? Also, what maintainer doesn't make decisions for their "official version"?

dustyharddrive··on How Do I Prepare My Phone for a Protest?
Matrix metadata is stored by all participating homeservers. That's significantly worse.
dustyharddrive··on Gitlab Duo
Those are instructions to send a copyright infringement notice with tons of PII. We should have higher standards for "opt-out" than that, even for non-consensual data vacuums.
dustyharddrive··on Gitlab Duo
They can't be bothered to allow opt-outs (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39771318) or even attempt to check if code they're archiving is freely licensed (https://www.softwareheritage.org/faq/#25_Is_the_code_checked...)

It's like Common Crawl, another non-commerical mass scraping project just benevolently stealing creations for "AI" companies.
