dunemaster··on Ask HN: Working as a software engineer for 5 years, I've forgotten all CS stuff
You mean CS is unimportant for 99% of all code monkeys. But it is absolutely necessary for bleeding edge development and creating libraries that people who deem CS unimportant. It’s like saying that math is a complete waste of time because no programmer needs more than school algebra ever. True? Absolutely! Do we still need math? If you married rich or grew up rich then it’s a nice brain teaser. Otherwise touch grass.
dunemaster··on Ask HN: Working as a software engineer for 5 years, I've forgotten all CS stuff
Ah yes, you’ll forget almost everything learned at school, so just close down close right? Why stop smoking and getting drunk all the time when you die anyway?
dunemaster··on Is the psychedelic therapy bubble about to burst?
I don’t think that anecdotal evidence benefits the evidence behind psychedelic therapies. I lost a lot of weight by eating gummy bears around the same time I started to exercise and eat less. Is that a convincing argument for gummy bears as a weight loss tool? They weren’t keto either.
dunemaster··on Ask HN: Generalist contractors, what is your hourly rate?

dunemaster··on How to Think: The Skill You’ve Never Been Taught
Absolutely this. All great writers were extremely prolific and disciplined about their craft with no exception. This whole myth about some genius lying on the table and thinking about the order of arranging words is a myth that romanticizes the act of writing.
dunemaster··on GoG Is Losing Millions
I think that many games are just too expensive on their platform and the interface is all over the place. There are so many options and covers which completely overwhelm the average user and they end up buying nothing.
dunemaster··on Mind-expanding books
Unlikable mary sue character who constantly toots his own horn and boasts about how smart he is, boring cookie cutter world building straight from a how to book. This made the protagonist extremely annoying like a teenager who thinks he’s smart and talented because of good grades and then ends up working as a web dev later in life.
dunemaster··on Hours Outside
Ok boomer. How you respond to the comment says a lot about you and how you think.
dunemaster··on “Play-to-Earn” and Bullshit Jobs
Product owner, scrum master and everything agile is the essence of a bullshit job.
dunemaster··on C Is Not a Low-level Language (2018)
This article could have been 1/8th of its length and the message would still be clear. Modern writing is vague, overly detailed and inelegant.
dunemaster··on Hours Outside
>le technology le bad

This is the most boomer thing I read on this platform and that says a lot.

dunemaster··on Mind-expanding books
For me it was the other way around. The first book was so bad that I stopped reading fiction all together because I realized there are more important things I can do with my limited time.

>Patrick rothfuss before lord of the rings This has to be bait
dunemaster··on Books that changed my career as a software engineer
Why the dots?
dunemaster··on Why Computers Will Never Write Good Novels
A very high probability of being wrong doesn’t make it right though.
dunemaster··on Why Computers Will Never Write Good Novels
By merely bruteforcing chess positions? A 300 page novel is vastly more complex than a chess game
dunemaster··on Why Computers Will Never Write Good Novels
Not until neuroscientists even remotely understand how consciousness forms
dunemaster··on Workaholism leads to health problems, work addiction risk depends on occupation
As a freelance concept artist and illustrator I pull regular all nighters but when I’m into the zone drawing worlds and characters from pure imagination, I lose track of time and space. After some time of not sleeping it feels like my head is floating mid air, I don’t know which day of the week it is and the last time I looked out the window the sun was going up, now it’s early morning again. It doesn’t interfere with my life because art completes and lifts me into a higher state of consciousness. It’s rare and remarkable
dunemaster··on Writing a book: is it worth it?
Are there any writers of technical books here that write in their second language? Do you translate it to english or just write it in english?
