Leftism, progressism or wtv tries to remove all social
value from individuals for their beliefs. Leftists tried to make the world lose respect for people like J. K. Rowling, Elon Musk and recently DHH. If some people say something that is not illegal but is deemed to be offending by leftists, they go tribal gang on that person and try to devalue all they work. I myself prefer to live in a world where people is free to express their thoughts even if they are being retarded at it.
It's not about what the customer complains or notices at short term, is about having a quality system that can be augmented without accumulating same kind of debt. I can give a simple example. I have a coder here that filled the crontab of a server with periodic tasks. One of them was doing +200 failed requests per second and shutdown one of our routers. The router wrote so much logs that it changed the health of its internal disk from 15% to 85%. He doesn't even know what the crontab is. This kind of stuff is bound to happen more and more because the more you use AI to vibe, the more disconnected you get from the technology. And that's why I say, the only way that yolo vibecoding could work is if the base stuff didn't matter.
I'm a software engineer, I do software development but also system maintenance, and I do handle networking and telephony systems, and work with some juniors. Working with AI is problematic. It can speed up you but at the same time delay you. For the system maintenance part sometimes you need to do a lot of stuff fast and in various machines and you can't just count on a cloud based AI oracle (that takes time) to do your job for you. And the same time, the more you use it as a oracle, the less competent you get. If you are an expert, I would say in any area, you do benefit from using AI as a tool but it easily can become a double edged sword and make you less proficient. For juniors, it can make them rapidly produce stuff that is impressive and works ok for sites and some visual stuff, but it's impossible for a junior to become an expert if they get stuck in the AI using loop. For AI to cause a clean impact, I would say that we would have to live in a world where software engineering didn't matter. That is, the choice of databases, high availability systems, the programming languages themselves.
Yeah that's why I said "right now people is". Then, ∀ for intermediate steps is not the same as ∀ for the final solution of Millennium Prize Problems' level. Fable exists for some 6 months now, internally, so the frontier kind of is a bit old right now, we will see how fast things keep going.
Not an anti-AI view at all, but right now people is exaggerating a bit on the "AI is solving math". For now they are good at finding holes on theories, proving by negation, not proving for all cases, nor coming up with new theories.
I don't understand why there are so many people that think this is fake / false flag / promotional. It's obvious that llm's can do crazy computations and might get to a point where they get them to recursively evolve. They are still algorithms, they still can't do stuff that humans do but they can get scary. My point is, it's normal that humans exposed to their current frontier picture llm's doing more crazy stuff.. why would it have to be fake?
I think it really depends on your knowledge and skill, and the kind of work you are using it for. It's hard to measure because the more you use it the more you lose some skills. But I have to admit that I can do much more parallel work when using the best models. It's messy, because sometimes I feel that I get lazier and just prompt them and go do some random stuff and sometimes even skip the part of verifying what they actually did meanwhile. But you can command AI to do massive stuff, you can get smart non developers to do useful work with them, it's really a new paradigm. One funny thing that I think people should consider more is pride in the code. If I code something by hand, like fully developing a service, I will get proud of seeing it work, I will attach to it like if it's my creation. That hardly happens if I use AI a lot.
Nvidia, Anthropic and OpenAI are controlling everything, and nothing is improving for everyone, quite the opposite. So I just hope they crash to the ground.
The Chinese are really going strong on destroying the American AI economy bubble. Honestly, despite the fact that I'm totally pro USA and anti China, I think we should help them crashing the American AI bubble. They are controlling everything and we can't even buy a new computer nowadays while getting no benefit from this. I wish some influential programmers stimulated coders everywhere to skip Claude and Chatgpt subscriptions for Chinese ones, at scale. If we programmers united we could help this bubble burst, I'm sure.
My point is, we have programming languages like C and C++, we have operating systems like Linux and FreeBSD, we have an empire of software and knowledge accumulated because of the intellectual battles fought by people before AI. With AI, we all are getting our coding easier (and are kind of being forced to), in a way that we will skip these kind of battles. That is, if we all use AI to make our job easier it will have some short term gain but we will end up as a whole ceasing to advance human knowledge with new stuff that has to come from real intellectual work. Like, I don't see people coming up with new outstanding technology if we all sucumb to be AI dependent.
Well despite my current anti AI sentiment, I have to admit that after reading the article, It was a good use of AI, done by someone with good technical skills. Still I have the feeling that this only works because of the vast accumulated knowledge pre-AI, and if everybody keeps going in this path, it will end up making everyone not advancing their knowledge at the pace they did before. I feel that this AI immersion is really about selling our soul to the devil for short term gains.
I honestly wonder if this kind of stuff really brings something to the table. Like I use opus for sometime and certainly I can put it to good use and optimize some parts of my day to day job (programmer). But it fails so hard in such simple tasks that it seems to me that putting it in loop can't just magically make everything better, unassisted. Does anyone actually uses agents and loops to create new software, new technology? Has anyone created with those systems, software they couldn't produce otherwise technologically wise? Or is it at best just an accelerator, cutting off on the building time?
No no, I didn't say that at all. I'm just saying that the studies are irrelevant since models got a boost in their competence. I'm not in a fight pro or against llm's, I know how they work and their limitations. But the complexity of the problems they solve increased since opus 4.5 . If you can't admit that, it's your problem.
Also, I'm not blaming users for their shortcomings. I'm just saying they are not perfect but you can get different outcomes according to how you use them.
It's different this time. You can see that at the same time, they are finally, definitely solving hard mathematical problems. They passed the phase of just being like good search engines to being actual generators of new data from their generalizations. I can give you a simple example. Any code they generated before brought frustration and they would loop with feedback. Now they actually produce "human level" code.
Until some days / weeks ago, LLM's for coding was more hype than actually real code producing. That is gone now. They clearly leveled up, things will not be the same anymore. And of course this is not just for coding, this is just the beginning. A month ago it really seemed that the models were hitting a complexity wall and that the architecture would need to be improved. Not anymore.
United Nations agencies like UNRWA? As for the killing reports, it seems that Israel always kills civilians and particularly kids, they seem to like to spend their money in bombs directed at them because I never see reports of combatants being killed.
It's not a videogame, it's a fast minecraft screenshot simulator where the prompt between each frame is the state of the input and the previous frames, with something of a resemblance of coherence.
