due-rr··on Sogen Kato
I also suspect the current record holder for oldest person Jeanne Calment was a fraud. She beat the number two by 3 years (122 versus 119), the record was set back in 1996 but no one came close. But most importantly she had a reason to dupe people, because she sold her house at an old age.

> In 1965, aged 90 and with no heirs left, Calment signed a life estate contract on her apartment with civil law notary André-François Raffray, selling the property in exchange for a right of occupancy and a monthly revenue of 2,500 francs (€380) until her death. Raffray died on 25 December 1995, by which time Calment had received more than double the apartment's value from him, and his family had to continue making payments.

due-rr··on RSS is awesome
RSS is awesome! That’s why I made the simplest RSS reader[1] and a RSS feed of Hacker News classics that’s updated daily[2].

Using this curbed my Reddit usage quite a lot.

due-rr··on Electric cars produce far less brake dust pollution than combustion-engine cars
They mention that in the article. It’s not enough to offset the higher break wear.
due-rr··on Project Vend: Can Claude run a small shop? (And why does that matter?)
Would you ever trust an AI agent running your business? As hilarious as this small experiment is, is there ever a point where you can trust it to run something long term? It might make good decisions for a day, month or a year and then one day decide to trash your whole business.
due-rr··on Ask HN: AI Replacing Engineers – Firsthand Stories?
Just like with traffic: you build more roads, but traffic stays the same. It's induced demand[1].

The whole thread is so wholesome. Recommended reading :)
due-rr··on I ditched the algorithm for RSS
I agree. That’s why I created the simplest possible RSS reader[1]. I use it daily, but so far I’m the only user :D.

That sounds much better--I'll implement it. Thanks for the idea :).

Thanks!

I tried your two [1] feeds and it worked for me. Not sure why it didn't work for you, I don't see anything in the logs about a failed request.

due-rr··on Removing stuff is never obvious yet often better
The big difference here is something the user sees versus the developers as in your example. For users I think the answer is almost always, less is better. For the developers also, but there’s a bit more leeway.
due-rr··on Ernest Shackleton's last ship, Quest, discovered off the coast of Canada
According to this ted talk[1] he wasn’t. He led dangerously unprepared missions and ignored locals advice. Roald Admudsen was more successful and did it without the drama.

due-rr··on GitHub repo to keep up with the latest LK-99 developments
I have trouble keeping up with the news. Figured it would help to have a public repo to collect the latest developments.

PRs welcome!
