dubin··on Ask HN: Pro Bono for developers?
Hey, I'm part of Hack4Impact[1], a club at Penn that works with and develops for nonprofits. Each semester we split into teams, and each team works on a project with a nonprofit. Some of our past projects are showcased on our site [2]. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the group.

Hey, I'm from the team that worked on this at PennApps. This episode was actually our inspiration for the device!
dubin··on Ask HN: Which are the remote-friendly places to work nowadays?
Buffer's entire team is remote, and they write a lot about their approach https://open.bufferapp.com/distributed-team-benefits/

dubin··on Do you actually enjoy working?
Cal Newport has a great book on the topic: "So Good They Can't Ignore you" [1]. Might be worth taking a look at, or at least Derek Sivers's book notes on it [2]

Particularly of interest might be his discussion of Self-Determination theory [3]. According to SDT, motivation requires autonomy, competence, and relatedness. In the workplace, this translates to have control over your work, being good at your work, and being connected to co-workers.

Highly recommended. Of all the Hacker News styles I've tried, this has been the only one that I've used consistently.

Notably, it preserves the compactness of the front page. A lot of other styles tend to space out stories on the front page too much, which makes it harder to read through.

I do wish there was a similar theme for Firefox.

dubin··on Ask HN: Examples of good PHP code (entire projects) where can I find them?
Have heard great things about CodeIgniter's source: https://github.com/bcit-ci/CodeIgniter

One workaround that I've found around the new restriction is opening the "extensions" page in Chrome and simply dragging the downloaded crx file onto it. This should prompt an installation dialog.
