dtromero··on Perplexity got ads
Inline citations. I use perplexity all the time to find HackerNews or Reddit threads on certain topics, or conduct baseline research on topics. It will return the standard LLM answer but with inline citations which I can then use to verify or explore further.
dtromero··on Build a do-it-yourself home air purifier for about $25
Not sure, but I'd think it would also help to keep your fan clean.
dtromero··on Integrating GTA V into Universe
Interested in this as well. Applying machine learning in this way could create some interesting game play.
dtromero··on Mining in Space Could Lead to Conflicts on Earth
Really enjoyed this show. Found the inter-planetary political games particularly interesting.
dtromero··on The Strange and Curious Tale of the Last True Hermit
This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

"It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude."

- Self-Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson

dtromero··on 'Everyone in US under virtual surveillance' - NSA whistleblower
In theory, couldn't an interested party filter out the blocklist from the all other traffic? It would be more interesting to have a dynamic list that gets updated based on actual user behavior. That way, the interested party wouldn't be able to filter out the blocklist without potentially filtering out actual traffic. This of course would create all kinds of legal issues.
dtromero··on Basic Option Strategies
I'm interested in an in-depth tutorial that shows how to use the plugin to perform this kind of analysis. While I don't work in trading, I can see a lot of good uses for a tool like this while conducting other financial analysis.
dtromero··on Ask HN: Where to buy men's suits?
I just bought a suit from indochino.com - For less than $400 you get a custom made suit from China in about 3 weeks. Their "fit" guarantees are nice too. You have to do you measurements yourself or by an experienced tailor(I enlisted the help of my girlfriend) but they'll give a $75 credit to get it tailored further if needed.

The quality of the fabric is good IMO - much better than department store suits. I would say it's definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a suit.

I've bought $200 suits from department stores only to spend another $100 on tailoring.. for a bit more you get a custom quality suit - from a company with a compelling business model.

dtromero··on Do you keep a work journal/diary? How?
I use a dedicated gmail address. Here's why: (1) It's portable. I can send myself an email from my phone, laptop, ipad, etc. (2) It's searchable. I can go back and search for specific keywords or topics I wrote about. (3) It's easy to organize. I can label my posts as personal/work/etc and setup filters to apply these labels based on the subject line. (4) Short learning curve. I use my personal gmail account everyday. & (5) It's relatively secure.

Edit: (6) It's free.

dtromero··on HN: Name a problem, any problem, you'd like to see someone solve
To piggy back off the restaurant genome project idea, it would be great if food allergies and restrictions were incorporated as well. My girlfriend is gluten free so we don't often eat out (or explore) because most restaurants can't accommodate her needs.
dtromero··on Ask HN: Best non-technical book you've read lately?
Finishing up Machine Man by Max Barry - it's a fun book, and a quick read about a hacker who hacks on and upgrades his body parts (http://www.amazon.com/Machine-Man-Vintage-Contemporaries-Ori...).
dtromero··on Van Gogh's "Starry Night" coming to life
Cool effect - wish there was more information on how it was done. Wonder if they used the same techniques for the LSD scene in Taking Woodstock.

dtromero··on Ask HN: Any good graphic/web design courses online?
To continue with this train of thought, I'd check out the webdesign tuts. They have a lot of step by step tutorials to help you get started. Many are super basic, but they are supposed to give you the foundation to develop your own. They also have some articles that break down why some designs are good and others aren't.

dtromero··on Ask HN: Software to manage a jobhunt?
I keep track of it in my head as well. However I would love a better system to keep track of my tailored cover letters and resumes. In my last job search I had several versions of the same resume going depending on the type of job I was applying for. I also would tailor my cover letter for every application.

dtromero··on Ask HN: Where to start reading on security?
Those are some great links. Do you follow any security related podcasts? I don't work in security but like to stay relatively up to date.
dtromero··on You don't need a million dollars
Are you aware of any blogs or essays from entrepreneurs running successful small technology businesses this way?
dtromero··on Ask HN: Where to start reading on security?
I enjoy listening to the Security Now podcast with Steve Gibson. He gives a great overview every week of the security issues/patches/exploits and also goes in depth into a variety of security related topics. His explanations are always easy to understand and interesting.
