dskloet··on Everything must be paid for twice
Imagine you could spend 16 hours enjoying reading without any time having passed in the real world. Then you would still have those 16 to enjoy something else as well. But instead you are actually 16 hours closer to your death. That's the cost. Not the time you experienced, but the time you no longer have.
dskloet··on Open-Sourcing our Firmware
The option should be in your OS or browser settings.
dskloet··on Open-Sourcing our Firmware
I believe Google (used to?) ignores it if it's set to only English because that's too often the default. If that's the case, the work around is to set a second preferred language.

I guess this is sarcasm but if not:

dskloet··on Ireland to launch basic income program for artists
That's a terrible way to implement UBI. It causes the dreaded welfare trap where people are incentivized to do nothing. UBI should be unconditional. This makes it much easier to implement, removes the stigma, and most importantly avoids the welfare trap. You want people who rely on welfare to be encouraged to become self sufficient, not trap them in dependence.

I see something blueish.

dskloet··on PHP in 2022
Slow change is good for small projects that you want to build once and use for decades without much maintenance.
dskloet··on PHP in 2022
In the past I built a few things on Google App Engine. Honestly one of my greatest regrets in life. I ported a few to PHP so I won't get screwed again when I need to change hosting provider. Still need to port some and am dreading doing it but it will be for the better.
dskloet··on Crypto: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
I'm not sure what you are saying. A credit card transaction is also virtual, but you can use it to buy real world coffee. It's the same with crypto.
dskloet··on Crypto: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
If it's an online service they don't need your address.
dskloet··on Crypto: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
No, because you don't sent your wallet to the merchant.
dskloet··on Crypto: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
> the only thing I've seen crypto being used for seriously that isn't speculation

When paying for domain names or VPS (or anything online, but those are the cases where it's easy), I prefer paying with crypto because I don't want to give my credit card information to some stranger so they can misuse or lose it. This is not illegal and a legitimate use case.

dskloet··on Crypto: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Being able to transfer value across the internet without the permission of a middle man, is valuable in the real world.
dskloet··on Show HN: OnlyRecipe.app – Remove clutter from recipe sites
If you create a bookmark with the following URL, you can click it while on a recipe site to go to the OnlyRecipe version:

    javascript:window.location.href='https://onlyrecipe.app/?url=' + (window.location.href)
dskloet··on Show HN: OnlyRecipe.app – Remove clutter from recipe sites
If an image fails to load, there is an animation which is still quite distracting. Can that just be a static broken imagine icon?

For example here: https://onlyrecipe.app/?url=https://www.allrecipes.com/recip...
