drywater2··on The evolution of effective altruism
EA sounds like an excuse for billionaires to continue being the opposite of altruist.
drywater2··on Google launches Project Suncatcher, a step towards AI data centers in space
Another layer of protection against angry jobless plebs.
drywater2··on How do you control your phone use?
I also have a kitchen safe and it's the best thing that worked for me. Unfortunately blocking apps aren't that good as you can still unblock them pretty easily. I still can't live without a smartphone (unfortunately), but I use one sec for blocking social media or short form video like Youtube Shorts.
drywater2··on OpenAI halts release of Astra 6.1 over safety concerns
"safety" is a weird way to spell "performance"
drywater2··on A Privacy Analysis of Web and Mobile Conversational AI Agents [pdf]
No, they don't "leak data", data is sold. Leaking data requires a mistake. This is intentional.
drywater2··on What Happens if the A.I. Bubble Bursts
If?
drywater2··on The Post-AGI Era
>AGI has arrived.

Stopped reading there.

drywater2··on Tell HN: OpenAI $500 ProMax plan listed in API
I'm waiting for the ProMaxUltra+
drywater2··on Google’s Project Suncatcher to put ML infrastructure in space
You must be trolling at this point.
drywater2··on Show HN: An atlas of system designs with interactive architecture diagrams
Unrelated to the content itself, but when I see AI slop UI I don't feel like reading.
drywater2··on OpenAI, Anthropic CEOs urge UN countries to cooperate on AI safety standards
Safety as in "we want to be the single AI cartel".
drywater2··on OpenAI is enlisting an influencer army to make it look 'good for the world'
If they really did any 'good for the world' they wouldn't need paid propaganda.
drywater2··on Is A.I. Above the Law?
>Our legal system isn’t ready for machines that act on their own.

Technically, the code is owned and deployed by AI companies which make the AI companies 100% responsible. I'm not sure how is code written by LLMs different than any other kind of code. If somebody hacked just like OpenAI's agents did, he would've ended up in prison right away.

drywater2··on What China's Vibe-Coding Capital Can Tell Us About The AI Boom
https://archive.is/dJjuq

The main illustration has one of the most disgusting art styles I've seen.

drywater2··on An 'AI freeze' could make big AI companies bigger and hurt smaller firms
That's the whole point. Regulatory capture.
drywater2··on LLM Ass Bench
Finally, I was getting tired of seeing pelicans on a bike.
drywater2··on Soul sucking. 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter
>You think just anybody can deliver those single-word prompts?

Probably most non-technical managers think that.

drywater2··on OpenAI models secretly generate instructions to ignore constraints
Another "argument" for regulatory capture.
drywater2··on Opal Camera
I think it's better if I stick with my GoPro hero9, which can be used as a cam. It's the same price, but I can take it with me anywhere, film in 4k60fps and it has some stabilization software which is really good.
drywater2··on China has forbidden under-18s from playing games for more than three hours/week
Same. I feel like games are fun, but at some point there are diminishing returns and negatively affect your social life.
drywater2··on Ask HN: What tiny purchases have disproportionately improved your life?
Smartphone and internet addiction?
drywater2··on Ask HN: Favorite purchases of last two years?
It's pretty sturdy, although the K2 keys seem much more solid. I bought this keyboard because of the low key travel and tactile feel. Although it's low profile I still needed a wrist pad to enjoy it.

About the quality, they seem pretty decent. I haven't had any issues with it.

drywater2··on Ask HN: Favorite purchases of last two years?
I recently bought a Keychron K3 gateron brown keyboard. I'm really enjoying it because it's a low profile mechanical keyboard. Highly recommend it.
drywater2··on Ask HN: What language should I use for tech interviews?
Wow. This seems a little hardcore. A friend of mine managed to get a job at Amazon by interviewing in Haskell.
drywater2··on Ask HN: What are the possible future opportunities for C++ developers?
Done some research on this. It's not that interviewing in C++ isn't ok, but you'll increase your chances to fail due to language complexity and time to edit the code. Nobody cares at the language level how you optimize your code in an interview.

I know C++ and I'm learning Python and vim right now just for coding interviews.

drywater2··on Ask HN: Mobile phone addiction help?
Hi. I have the same problem as you. I tried a lot of software on my phone that doesn't let me use Twitter or Reddit, unless I enter some dumb code or something. Most of this software just tracks your time on each app and doesn't forbid you from using it. For example, "Digital Wellbeing" app is a joke. You can disable it anytime it starts running. Some apps, such as Youtube, have the option to remind you that you have been using it for a certain amount of time, like 15 minutes. I wouldn't rely on software to help me on this one.

I ended up buying a kSafe and putting my phone in there for an amount of 12 hours a day. I get my messages and calls on my watch.

If you're using your iPhone you'll end up downloading scroller apps.

I don't have a solution for your mobile bank account.
