droob··on The billionaire’s typewriter
This post kinda collapses if you take out the assumption of Ev's moustache-twirling malice at its center.
droob··on Are carriers keeping the unlocking commitments they made to the FCC?
AT&T is allowing it, but only through a semi-convoluted series of email notifications about notifications, followed by verification links that unlock verification links.
droob··on GitHut – Programming Languages on GitHub
This is just _public_ repos, right? That might skew numbers a bit.
droob··on Gotham Air: Manhattan to JFK in 6 minutes for $99
The big weird variable time buffer required at the airport would seem to wipe out the time you gain, right? Or, at least, what's an extra half hour when you're on the hook for two hours of security and waiting, followed by a couple-hour flight, followed by another hour of transit on the arrival side?
droob··on But Where Do People Work in This Office?
People tend to enjoy private alcoves with a view on the action, which is kinda best of both worlds. Christopher Alexander describes that pattern in _A Pattern Language_.

droob··on Stop writing stateful HTML
Oh man, don't roll your own linking, caching, and history. Use what you get for free from the browser. You have better things to spend your time with.
droob··on Chemistry of Cast Iron Seasoning (2010)
Simple! Just heat, oil, reheat, and cool your pan six times in a row. For eighteen hours. And don't mess up or you'll have to start over.
droob··on Salesforce reveals Wave, its analytics cloud
"But Salesforce also poured lots of its own effort into building a completely new product that’s intuitive enough for any person to use — just like such popular games as Angry Birds, Candy Crush Saga, and Farmville."

I kinda feel bad for Jordan Novet, having to type that and somehow find a way to keep pressing letters on a keyboard in a meaningless existence.

droob··on Tilde.Club: I had a couple drinks and woke up with 1,000 nerds
Yeah, finger only works locally.
droob··on Whats Wrong with Markdown
Whats how do trolling
droob··on Shyp launches in NYC and is heading to Miami next
In the modern-day version of The Jungle, Jurgis would have had the job title "Sausage Hero".
droob··on Hacker News Leaderboard
What's the motivation behind posting these? Is there a way to say "these are the kinds of posts that are good for the community" without tacking a number on it?
droob··on The shockingly obsolete code of bash
I think code should be able to hang around for 30 years without automatically being called "shockingly obsolete." Are there choices the programmers could have made that would have held up better over the years?
droob··on FBI blasts Apple, Google for locking police out of phones
The quote that plants this firmly in pretending-to-be-serious land: “The average pedophile at this point is probably thinking, I’ve got to get an Apple phone.”

droob··on How to tell when a robot has written you a letter
Except that it's rarely "what works" as much as it is "what we can convince somebody else works, so they pay us to do it." There is shockingly little measurement and followup in the marketing world, despite what the industry would like you to believe.
droob··on Gobble Promises to Help Customers Make Delicious Meals in 10 Minutes or Less
Do you love packaging? Do you hate the two minutes it takes to cut things more than you like your money?

droob··on Docker closes $40M Series C led by Sequoia
"the money helps show the market that the company has stability"

Free money from some dudes unrelated to the company's business really shouldn't indicate "stability", should it?

droob··on Show HN: Hooli makes collaboration contextual
But I don't wanna type like a robot.
droob··on Our Silk-Making Process
Completely defeated by the interface. I have no idea if my scrolling had any effect on the position of anything, or how and why anything was playing, stopping, or advancing.

I read this whole thing in the voice of Baby Cakes, and it was wayyyyyyy more entertaining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9taJVvD0ivM
droob··on Startups from 2010: Acquired, Pivoted or Still Going?
Another metric I'd like to see: "total user-hours wasted onboarding, learning, importing, and exporting data". So many of these follow the same dumb pattern: "Make this tool part of your life! We're the solution! Uhhhh… never mind."
droob··on Don't Mock the Water Sommelier
I don't think people's reaction to the water sommelier is derision — maybe more "what kind of idiot do you take me for?"
droob··on MIT's Scratch Team releases Scratch 2.0 editor and player as open source
Neat! It would be nice if README.md gave a little introduction to the project.
droob··on Simple Design is What You Need, Not What You Want
I guess they didn't just want the 18 trackers Ghostery found on that post, they needed them?
droob··on Bezier Curves and Type Design: A Tutorial
Leslie Cabarga's _Logo, Font & Lettering Bible_ has a nice section on this, too. http://amzn.com/1581804369
droob··on Square Finally Gives Up on Square Wallet and Bets on New Order-Ahead App
I used Square Wallet all the time, and was frequently told, "That was the first time I've done that!"
