What a waste of a good submission headline.
Descriptive 404, obvious SEO things that just make sense to do anyway, alt text?
Who needs a checklist to do these things? And one that takes 6 seconds to load in all the JS at that. (I'm not one to complain about JS usually but the scripts were working for a significant and noticeable amount of time)
Pointing fingers about stealing ideas is ridiculously silly, no wonder Gruber is wasting his precious word count on it. But to defend Apple's draconian policies as good in the eyes of competition is simply too much for me to hear without the bullshit-ometer going off.
You're defining marketing to include the definition of the word 'ban'. It's rather silly IMO.
It makes a huge difference in how people perceive you and it's also reflected in your speech patterns and your speaking ability. This in turns affects how people perceive you face to face. Poor verbal communication can make even the best resume useless.
One side is competing with the other. The other side is locking them out of the platform on an application (Google Voice) and an advertising level.
What if Google said they weren't going to allow Apple apps on Android or allow iAds on Android (not that I think either would ever happen in a million years).
I simply can't fathom the double think that Gruber uses to excuse Apple's actions while pointing fingers at Google.
"I've never given my username and password directly to websites, except for Etacts." This is all about Etacts right? How do you expect someone to be accessing your account? You gave them your user and password. The point is, you hand out your username and password, it just makes you look silly to suggest that your account is being compromised by covert wifi sniffers (you are using encryption right?), etc.
I still don't understand why you need to DBAN to do an OS reinstall unless you are just using the term DBAN loosely.
Also, man, what is the point of DBANing your install? Is software that is no longer accessible to the OS or likely even any consumer level hardware going to magically log your keystrokes, I mean make you give your usernames and passwords to websites and then be surprised that they use them?
I've been told that people have tried to call me and got busy signals multiple times.
UAC is defective from the standpoint that every school and corporation I've been at disable it, and those that done click Accept every time without reading or considering what they're clicking on. I understand this is partly a user problem, but damn, I'll do one tiny thing before remembering to disable it and I have to Accept 30 things before I'm done.
Why is the first account you create an admin account by default. If they wanted the use-case that you imply is supported, they would have you create an administrator account and then would ask you to create a regular user to use day-to-day.
Or they would more fully embrace the su/sudo routine that linux uses.
We get it. We're tired of these articles. When the development cycle slows and when the custom layers either die or turn into a simple custom skin alongside Android, this will all be a thing of the past.
What you created was a public link. Not sure what you're wanting them to do. At least you can't access other files in the PrivateFiles folder by simply modifying the end of the URL. Now that, I might actually consider a "leak".
Orientation lock can be specified from the Settings and can be overridden on a per-app basis.
Anyone using the homescreen is an idiot. The stock Launcher is terrible. LauncherPro is marginally better than ADW Laucnher which are both 100x better than the stock Launcher.
That having been said, there is a fair amount of feature loading here for Android. I think it's an accurate comparison, but not a fair one as it leaves out features that would have 'Y's in the iOS columns and 'N's in the Android columns.
