This unscientific and non data backed opinion simply isn't contributing towards meaningful dialogue.

Its not bs to live life
drharby··on Tee-Ball
Thats part of the job
drharby··on How to Succeed as a Poor Programmer
That's a major assumption. Many get curious when a plumber or other blue collar worker talks on an hn thread. This isnt a secret clubhouse, its a new forum. Just...tech focused.
drharby··on America’s New Sex Bureaucracy
Seemingly not rascist and being rascist are two distinct qualities. It has been my experience on the receiving end of rascism that it is done quietly with plausible deniability
drharby··on Researchers are racing to find out why methane levels are increasing so fast
Act how?

I'm being pragmatica here. How and to what end is this statement and the aggregation of headlines on hacker news hoping to persuade the hn reader? Donate all money to causes? Starve ourselves to death? Go retreat from our lives to invest in reforestation efforts, managing beehives, and growing pesticide free sustenance farms while microcurating our own little corner of the Earth?

Or is it simply to strike undirected alarmism and fear in hopes it contributes to some vagie movement to improve the earth?

Can you be more constructive in your feedback, please?

drharby··on Bill Gates Resume (1974)
Let's see Paul Allens resume.
drharby··on TempleOS: – God, the Random Number Generator
He wasnt irrational tho, he suffered mental illness iirc. Your point still kinda stands tho.
drharby··on Interview with DuckDuckGo CEO Gabe Weinberg
......

Is data really that ephemeral to people? Maybe its bc i worked with intelligence systems in my first career, but the idea of controlled data seems pretty straightforward. What i choose to reveal about myself should be in my hands, and part of that decision is brokering trust that ot isnt shared.

What Is Data? Its a record. It isnt handwavy to me or most.

drharby··on YTMND is down for temporary maintenance
The meme predates the film.

Nedm is another meme.

I officially am a boomer spotcorrecting ancient memes

drharby··on What It's Like to Work on Ultra-Violent Games Like Mortal Kombat
Growing up playing these kinda games, you kinda just normalize it. I came out normal.
drharby··on A city for the rich, built poorly: The construction of Hudson Yards
people aren't, it's just the media.

Some people are kinda meh about the financing behind this because it used gerrymandering to get funding diverted from say Harlem, but no real conversation daily.

drharby··on After Your First Big Startup Success, What’s Next? (2014)
This right here. Except for me arts would be entertainment art. Indie gamedev without the worry of commercial success, making films, fun art projects for the sake of it
drharby··on She was the “queen of the mommy bloggers”
The law of large numbers stipulates that given sufficient volume of data points, there is always a mean value that generaly gets converged upon, with a standard deviation of course.

I fear that public online presence is subject to a similar law of social interaction wear the audience is more prone to malicious tone and judgement in an online environment.

Every forum i know has a favorite hate child to harp on, from the safety of ones chair. Any one willing to let their online presence affect their mental health is in for a bad time

drharby··on Navy SEALs Tried for Months to Report War Crimes and Were Told to “Let It Go”
You're right, the US should.

Whomever in the political decision making element who greenlit this tolerance must have been between a rock and a hard place

drharby··on Her Facebook life looked perfect. How social media masks mental illness (2015)
Hikomori fits my mental health needs significantly and i manage to find meaning in a healthy life. Its a personal journey i find
drharby··on New study shows grim outlook for future of Air Force pilot shortage
Yea afpc decision making is always short term 3year scale thinking with real consequences rarely analyzed, just number crunching whether or not current training pipelines are optimized for minimal idle time of trainees.

When a t34 rudder issue it a fleet in the navy pipeline, numbers for 92T slots dropped accordingly, so the marker for pilot qualification is as much luck as it is merit

drharby··on New study shows grim outlook for future of Air Force pilot shortage
There are so many core misconceptions you have about the nature of volunteer service in an armed profession, its people, and your statement is so tangential and charged with auxillery purpose that i question whether you actually care about the pilot shortage at all
drharby··on Hackers News Is a Toxic Place

drharby··on ‘When the Glaciers Disappear, Those Species Will Go Extinct’

drharby··on 500-year-old library catalogue reveals books lost to time
Im currently reading Island at the Center of the World about dutch new york, new amsterdam. And the source material is basicly one or two books because the dutch west india company sold their records as scrap paper. Rooms full of records, granted yhe papet were records over 200 years old. drharby··on How to tell a raven from a crow (2012)
I feel like these kind of cool tech demos paired with a highly motivated and technically savvy phd student would lead to some interesting models in research papers with accompanying demos.
drharby··on Hackers News Is a Toxic Place
