Became a hacker after learning to read, sold my first company when I was 10, and started a VC fund at 13. I program for breakfast, create disruptive companies for lunch, and eat PhDs for dinner. While asleep, I generate passive-income and dream of my next TED talk.

dreamdu5t··on Google paid Andy Rubin $90M while keeping silent about a misconduct claim
Using company funds to hedge against personal risk is shady and selfish, even if it might technically be legal. It’s as close to embezzlement as you can get. I can’t imagine explaining to investors why I needed to loan myself company funds for a fucking vacation home, for my mistresses no less!

But whatever, executives are Gods who can do no wrong and deserve 90 million for sexual harassment and assault, and they deserve company loans for vacation homes for their whores. What a joke!

dreamdu5t··on Google paid Andy Rubin $90M while keeping silent about a misconduct claim
“In 2012, Google also lent Mr. Rubin $14 million to buy a beach estate in Japan. “

Sounds like the culture of embezzlement everyone knows corporate executive management is.

dreamdu5t··on Google paid Andy Rubin $90M while keeping silent about a misconduct claim
Its not a business decision, it’s simply the culture of executive management. It’s because they can.
dreamdu5t··on Do the Rich Capture All the Gains from Economic Growth?
TLDR Not so simple.

First, purchasing power is not considered. If wages are stagnant, but most consumer goods have gotten cheaper, then the bottom 50% with stagnant wages is capturing productivity gains.

Second, there’s no account for economic mobility. Wages for the bottom 50% are stagnant but most people don’t stay the same income all their life. There’s no account of economic mobility.

From the article: “As in the other panel studies, when you follow the same people, the biggest gains go to the poorest people. “

dreamdu5t··on Bringing transparency to ER prices, one hospital bill at a time
Let's see, Republicans are for denying healthcare to people who can't afford it (a free market). Democrats are for ensuring access to healthcare for everyone, including those who can't afford it (using taxes, so everyone who can pay pays and the rich cover the poor).

It's pretty fucking cut and dry at this point. We can dispense with the philosophical grandstanding.

dreamdu5t··on Bringing transparency to ER prices, one hospital bill at a time
No. Politicians favoring policies that deliberately exclude the poor have failed us for 30 years.

We have never been able to make extensive progress on healthcare because voters elect politicians that fight against government health insurance (even fighting against spending government money on insurance for the disabled and elderly).

Free market ideologues have failed us, not the government. This is painfully obvious if you've ever been in another civilized country (Taiwan, Canada, UK, etc.).

dreamdu5t··on Lack of progress exposed by the Canary MacGuffin
Yeah, good points. I've never worked with a company that even had a promotion system... :)
dreamdu5t··on Lack of progress exposed by the Canary MacGuffin
There's a fourth explanation: Engineers don't get paid more for producing features faster (or on time), they just get more work. A smart/rational engineer eventually realizes they don't get rewarded for finishing tasks quickly or on-time, they get the opposite: more work. And promotion happens laterally not vertically, they get it by changing jobs because it's not obtainable by delivering more things on time or faster.

As long as engineers are paid based on salary/wages this will always be the case, and has been the case in every company I've worked with.

Why did you raise money? How will you make money?

Is there a similar service that’s not involved with VC?

Dopamine is not uniquely associated with social media.

Furthermore, dopamine isn’t addictive and “In studies with rats, where dopamine was suppressed, rats showed “normal hedonic reaction patterns,” and still showed normal pleasure responses even though dopamine was suppressed.

dreamdu5t··on Shanghai sets population at 25M
People should be treated equally because it’s the compassionate and the right thing to do. I assume you want to be treated equally as well? Regarding the problems you attribute to people simply moving to the area you live in, those problems can be dealt with in ways that don’t exclude others. They also aren’t your problems, but problems shared by everyone including the people who recently moved there.
dreamdu5t··on Shanghai sets population at 25M
Regardless of the solutions chosen to make cities a better place, closed borders and immigration quotas are descrimination. People should be treated equally.
dreamdu5t··on Shanghai sets population at 25M
The US enacted descriminatory and racist immigration policies which they still have now.
dreamdu5t··on Shanghai sets population at 25M
Closed immigration policies and immigration quotas are descrimination - plain and simple. They’re a violation of human rights and treating people equally - whether in China or the USA.
dreamdu5t··on Shanghai sets population at 25M
The problem isn’t migration it’s clearly the conditions and wages they’re to allowed work for, as you admit. Free movement of human beings should be a human right. Restricting immigration is nothing more than descrimination. In China or the United States for that matter.
dreamdu5t··on How recreational marijuana in California left chemists in the dark
Many of the pesticides may be destroyed during combustion. Similarly with stomach acids. But in both cases of ingestion some pesticides can enter the blood stream. They also don’t have to enter the bloodstream to be harmful.
dreamdu5t··on How recreational marijuana in California left chemists in the dark
So pesticides are allowed on food consumed by kids with no label or warning, and no testing required yet they’re not allowed on a product meant to be incinerated and inhaled and used as a recreational drug by adults? Okaaaaayyyy....
dreamdu5t··on Basecoin: A Robust, Price-Stable Cryptocurrency with an Algorithmic Central Bank
So why not just hold dollars?
dreamdu5t··on Banker confessed to running a Ponzi scheme, but was he hiding a bigger crime?
“If there are no consequences, then the world is seriously broken.“

The world is broken when people make 100’s of millions of dollars and spend it on villas, expensive art, dining, etc while others work their asses off just to scrape by on a meager existence.

Boo fucking hoo they lost millions to a scammer when that doesn’t even near bankrupt them. Imagine losing millions and just going on living the same lifestyle...

dreamdu5t··on Basecoin: A Robust, Price-Stable Cryptocurrency with an Algorithmic Central Bank
Why pegged to the dollar? Seems like a fatal flaw.
dreamdu5t··on “Username or password is incorrect” is bullshit
What’s the point of having passwords at all? If there’s a password reset mechanism they provide no additional security. Just send a one time login token to the email.

Having a password just increases the odds of a hack by the user accidentally exposing it.

dreamdu5t··on Three Delusions: Paper Wealth, a Booming Economy, and Bitcoin

dreamdu5t··on Older Adults' Forgetfulness Tied to Faulty Brain Rhythms in Sleep
More stupid? Alcohol kills 16,000 people in car crashes alone. 88,000 alcohol related deaths a year making it the third most popular cause of preventable death.

Then there’s it’s relationship with sexual assault and date rape as well.

dreamdu5t··on Older Adults' Forgetfulness Tied to Faulty Brain Rhythms in Sleep
Best thing I did for my sleep and my life was quit drinking alcohol and caffeine. I feel like I sleep twice as good and feel twice as better throughout the day. No exaggeration. But the social pressure to use these drugs is intense, as most of the population is addicted to some degree.

Maybe in China Sam had less opportunity talking with people outside his bubble. If the purpose of the visit was to meet and see entrepreneurs then of course he’ll not run into people opposing these ideas. Especially when he doesn’t speak the native languages. Here in the Bay Area most people outside of tech are familiar with it and constantly interacting with “the techies” so it’s harder to exist undisturbed in your bubble.
dreamdu5t··on The importance of dumb mistakes in college
No college should not be a time for dumb mistakes. That should be earlier. 20 year olds should be treated like adults not children. College should not be a place to party, recklessly use drugs, recklessly have sex and sexually assault women, and graffiti things. What an incredibly low standard.
