drchickensalad··on Most “mandatory requirements” in corporations are imaginary
Yeah I think OP is referring to the reality and not the model we made to represent it
drchickensalad··on Using 'this' incorrectly in C#
Nope. Virtual and non-virtuals behave exactly how you'd expect, other than obviously you still need to use base instead when desired.
drchickensalad··on Google resumes its attack on the URL bar, hides full addresses on Chrome 86
This is hacker news, and you're talking about apple.
drchickensalad··on Factorio 1.0
It's nothing at all like that.
drchickensalad··on Physical attractiveness bias in the legal system (2017)
I have seen a strong inverse correlation in my (anecdotal and quite brief) professional life :|
drchickensalad··on How to Run a Live Coding Stream on Twitch Using OBS
That's not true at all in 2020. Most streamers have low latency on which reduces it to ~3 seconds or less.
drchickensalad··on Slate Star Codex and Silicon Valley’s War Against the Media
I agree. Stupid and uninformed are quite different.
drchickensalad··on Finally, I Closed My LinkedIn
I highly recommend more niche sources, like triplebyte, angel list/angel co, stack overflow, indeed, glassdoor, etc.
drchickensalad··on Why Is the Stock Market Booming?
Why 15 years?
drchickensalad··on The software industry's greatest sin: hiring
I think in this field, it's not at all guaranteed that years worked means better. For some people, they grow a mountain in a year. For others, barely at all.

Honestly I agree with your pain because the above situation is also not completely tied to how much you care. Luckily though, most of the time it is.

drchickensalad··on To get good, go after the metagame
Most people consistently make mistakes. They're not really playing to win, and going over all their footage to ensure they have their fundamentals down. It's actually really hard to perfect your fundamentals.
drchickensalad··on Why SQLite succeeded as a database (2016)
Can't you take object instead of TInsert and call .GetType to lookup the (cached) way to serialize it? I assume this is what json.net etc do.
drchickensalad··on No engineer has ever sued because of constructive post-interview feedback
I'm a little bit busy temporarily but I feel I can help you out. Email is the following backwards with symbols added: com live brandonbrowning
drchickensalad··on JetBrains Mono: A free and open-source typeface for developers
I'll be honest I can imagine it's on risky legal ground. A stray y key hit when doing anything on the page accepts the agreement? For all their faults, all other implementations are much more explicit and resilient than this, as they require a targeted click.
drchickensalad··on Video Gaming Will Take Over
I hope you enjoy caves of qud. Easily the best and most original and beautiful game I've played in years.
drchickensalad··on The Linux codebase has over 3k TODO comments, many from over a decade ago
Doesn't this still put all the commits on the main branch?
drchickensalad··on League of Legends quickly gaining on traditional sports in American popularity
The pros are substantially better than you'll ever be. It's fun to see the crazy shit they can pull off, or root for a team, or the tension of the underdog, etc just like normal sports.
drchickensalad··on OpenLayers
I don't think it'd be the static image because that downloads the entire thing. I assume they got some tiling work done to break it up.
drchickensalad··on How we built Uber Engineering's highest query-per-second service using Go (2016)
How does this happen?! They're so expensive
drchickensalad··on Apple is making corporate ‘BYOD’ programs less invasive to user privacy
99% of people sign them. Almost everyone will barely read it. The rest assume that it won't affect them.
drchickensalad··on Russ Cox’s response to “Go Is Not a Community Driven Project”
I think it's disingenouous to call this a solved problem. Regardless of their appearance, very few projects actually follow this consistently, because it's a lot of work and almost impossible to be sure.
drchickensalad··on Oh shit, git (2016)
What do you feel the UI does better than git add -p? The main concession I have is picking arbitrary files, but I feel like I've achieved 90%+ of what I want with '.cs' or 'Controller*' etc.
drchickensalad··on Running an IRC Network in 2019: Challenges and Opportunities
Slack and other services have this without the bouncer
drchickensalad··on How to organize a study group, book club, online group or event
This type of long argument happens in 10 person discords who have literally no policy. I don't think they're necessarily related.
drchickensalad··on Gravity Payments: Seattle company with a minimum salary of $70K
The opinions of 6 people, with known relationships instead of being randomly sampled, out of the population of Netflix developers, is incredibly statistically insignificant.
drchickensalad··on “Lambda and serverless is one of the worst forms of proprietary lock-in” (2017)
You honestly think that the main performance problem with a 2yo app is that it's a monolith?
drchickensalad··on The ‘clean plate’ mentality drives us to overeat?
I'm usually two or three meals. Just hard to control portion consistently.
drchickensalad··on The ‘clean plate’ mentality drives us to overeat?
I've eliminated all snacking and soda calories from my life and I still have a big problem with maintaining/losing weight. Definitely should be helping though.
drchickensalad··on Introspected REST: An alternative to REST and GraphQL
Other than patch, there's also etags and match headers that are frequently used and well supported.
drchickensalad··on Discord raises $150M, surpassing $2B valuation
To reverse it, I can't really think of anything skype does better than discord in a mildly gaming context honestly.
