drTobiasFunke··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Absolute lies. The 1843 act was to prevent the east India company from keeping slaves. Thats a western entity. There are clear records of actual Indian history where slavery was explicitly banned.

Even if there was something, like I said, its nothing different than what others had at that time. So this whole obsession about stratification in Indian society seen as something unique is baffling.

drTobiasFunke··on U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve Falls to Lowest Level Since 1982
Thos year’s drop is terrible, but we know the reason. Anybody know why the big drop in 2021-22?
drTobiasFunke··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Nobody is defending caste system. Its bad, and its already illegal as it should be. People are just calling out the hypocrisy when its implied that this kind of stratification is unique to India and unheard of elsewhere. I mean, the west had literal human slaves ffs.
drTobiasFunke··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Well.. caste based discrimination is illegal. But caste based handouts are legal. So a reverse discrimination based on caste is legal and state supported. The only reason caste exists in 2026 is because there are state sponsored incentives if you belong to certain castes.
drTobiasFunke··on The senior engineer death spiral
After the initial prototype, starting your own company is mostly marketing, people management and more marketing. This “start your own company if you dont want to answer to anyone” is so romanticized that its comical. Its also completely inaccurate.
drTobiasFunke··on Jobs Without LeetCode
Majority of big tech. Leetcode was 100% irrelevant to the job before LLM and its 100% irrelevant to the job today. So nothing has changed really
drTobiasFunke··on Oracle’s 6am layoff emails hit staff amid new wave of cuts
PE is forward looking. Apple has the business model where people will continue to buy their newer phones and devices and use their paid services at the same or higher prices for the foreseeable future.

Do you think GPUs will continue to be bought at the same rate as during the ai data center buildout gold rush era, at the same ultra high up prices?

drTobiasFunke··on Everyone should slow down AI development except for me
By ambitious if you mean we are not like all the linkedin influencers with their “i one shotted an app this morning…” then no, we are not. Nobody is. I have been in software engineering for 18 years and 6 different companies including FANG and 99% of the people, on 99% of the days arnt writing new apps from scratch. Thats simply not how anything works.

And what even are these ambitious companies and people one shotting and building with Fable? AI has been around for almost 3 years now. Tell me one app or software you use which has gotten significantly better and has amazing new useful features landing on a weekly basis? If anything, every single software product I use has gotten worse.

drTobiasFunke··on Everyone should slow down AI development except for me
Really? My employer rolled back to opus 4.8 because 5 was expensive AND crap. Didnt even consider fable because it didn’t add any additional value.

For most software eng and design work opus 4.6-4.8 just works fine. For everyday joe asking ai to plan a trip or home diy work even sonnet works fine.

Any cybersecurity or other areas are niches that cannot support trillion $ valuations. What am I missing? Genuinely curious

drTobiasFunke··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
India and Pakistan were late 90s.

Japan and South Korea literally have 100s of American military bases on their territory. You really think they are sovereign nations who can pursue an independent nuclear program?

drTobiasFunke··on Houthis 'take control' of key island in global shipping route
There is no large country left which is not an American client state to pursue nuclear weapons . India was in the 90s, and they pursued nukes, tested them and got sanctioned by the west.
drTobiasFunke··on iPhone Duo
Holy batman, are you me?? I too am 40 and so sick of this industry after the masks came off and AI greed forced all CEOs and execs to salivate like hungry hyenas.
drTobiasFunke··on Programming is Art
Are you sure thats not because there is no concern of a deadlines, time to get things out faster than competition, politics, cross team opinions and competing business goals?
drTobiasFunke··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
Oh, not in that sense. I meant if you showed it data and business metrics, and asked for s tough decision, it is likely not going to make a decision by factoring in the race of the manager whose team isnt doing great, or get influenced because another executive is its beer buddy, or because the finance guy used to work with the AI at a previous job.

I am talking about these biased a human manager or executive will most certainly have. We have all seen it.

drTobiasFunke··on The turbulent AI era is here
If AI replaced all jobs, then how are those companies turning a profit? I dont understand this. Humans need to spend money and buy products for all the companies to make money. Do we imagine a parallel economy of agents spending money and humans are out of this?
drTobiasFunke··on CEO fired developers to make room for AI. Developers create open source AI CEO
One thing AI is actually good at: look at a bunch of data, make informed, unbiased, objective and quick decision, have a backup plan if that fails.

This is exactly what an executive is supposed to do. But since executives are the ones in charge, nobody talks about this, it’s all about getting rid of developers and how engineers arnt needed :).

drTobiasFunke··on Nvidia agrees to acquire Hugging Face for $13B
Nvidia is a public company. What VC money?
drTobiasFunke··on New Mac mini, featuring M6 and M5 Pro
Yup. And in my experience, AI has made the communication and decision making overhead significantly worse thanks to 100x longer docs, code that noone understands and enormous pressure by executives to magically produce software that just works.
drTobiasFunke··on Mark Zuckerberg attacks 'closed' AI rivals as Meta returns to open models
Open weight models are not open software. Its better than closed blackbox models sold by Sam and Mario, but Zuck supporting open weight models when he (and other big boys) hoards all the compute required to run any model, including open weight models only shows that he realized he cant beat Sam and Mario, so wants their leverage to go away.
drTobiasFunke··on Managing AI Coding Costs at Scale
Noone is questioning the volume of llm output. My question is whether all those points delivered improved your product and software in any meaningful way, or do you now have 20x more code that noone understands with the same quality of software product?
drTobiasFunke··on Managing AI Coding Costs at Scale
Output of 3 or 4 2022 engineers? Its that your self assessment? Output as in number of lines of code?
drTobiasFunke··on Engineering management after the cost of code collapsed
This. Exactly this. Most ideas are bad ideas. Now noone can stop all of them from being sent to prod for everyone to deal with.
drTobiasFunke··on What is happening to jobs? Separating AI hype from reality
I hope you do know that your comments are straight up being pasted to an LLM that addresses or counters those, not the junior dev. They are likely learning nothing other than how to increase their PR counts for managers to see.
drTobiasFunke··on Engineering management after the cost of code collapsed
This is so accurate. I am a fairly senior individual contributor and its been more than a year since I saw a good design doc or quality design discussion. Before you can even question the design, someone has generated a 50k line prototype and already made up their mind because of all the “you’re absolutely right..” and “X is exactly what you need..” from AI.
drTobiasFunke··on Engineering management after the cost of code collapsed
“Not in speed, but in quality” — unfortunately though, not a single CEO, executive, company, VC, investor or anyone with the power to make decisions cares about quality instead of speed.
drTobiasFunke··on Advertise in ChatGPT
Seriously? 99% of the ads are trying to sell stuff you dont need at all. But they want to sell that to you. Why would you rely on an ad to realize what you NEED and then buy it?
drTobiasFunke··on An Englishwoman who sketched India before photography took hold
Inglorious empire is another good one by Tharoor. Provides letters and statements from British officials and officers to show the intent and exploits.
drTobiasFunke··on An Englishwoman who sketched India before photography took hold
Yes, Genghis was a brutal conqueror so he was a monster (rightfully). But Alexander, who was also a brutal conqueror, killed millions and literally burnt down persian capital is “the great”. See how subtle propaganda works? You dont even realize how it gets to you.
drTobiasFunke··on An Englishwoman who sketched India before photography took hold
The temples built were by hindu empires like the vijayanagara empire or the marathas later who ruled significant parts of India coinciding with the turkic invasion and occupation that you are conveniently not taught in schools. The trukuc invasion left behind a trail of destroyed temples and coties. From sun temple of multan to martand temple in kashmir to ayodhya to mathura to kashi to hampi to belur and halebidu.. its literally a trail of ruins left behind. I dont even know why you are trying to argue that turkic occupation of India was somehow good for natives. The lack of pioneering art, science, technology, philosophy, astronomy, mathematics and literature during this period shows that ordinary people were just trying to survive and could not produce any of these works. Almost all of those great works were before 1000 ad.
drTobiasFunke··on An Englishwoman who sketched India before photography took hold
And no, hindu and muslim conquests were NOT alike. Krishnadevaraya defeated kalinga. Instead of destroying konark sun temple, he came back and built a similar stone chariot in hampi.

The same hampi was plundered and burnt down a century later by islamic foreign invaders.

The marathas defeated mughal empire, but you dont see delhi, fatehpur sikri etc in ruins.

Hindu conquests were like regime or government change for ordinary people. At best some changes in taxation. Islamic conquest meant their cities burnt down, institutions destroyed and life destroyed.

These are not my hallucinations, the turkic invaders proudly wrote about this themselves.
