downrightmike··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
Let's be honest, the Japanese gov't has killed off every generation since the asian bubble popped in the 90's. Those kids in the 90's that still can't get a job should be in their peak earning years and have strong talent skills, (and having kids) which was all sacrificed. They don't have the skills or tax base they should and they are unwilling to actually fix it because the stock market needs to crash big time and the rich need to pay for it.

Didn't meta make $10B in 2025 by scammers using their AI tools to scam our parents? Don't worry guys, meta will just lobby and bribe everyone to keep that revenue. Also don't worry about giving their new ai assitant full access to your bank account and credit cards email phone etc. nothing bad will happen

Probably the next nvidia chip drop because the old chips where priced at their highest level at a depreciation of 5 years instead of the 2 year norm. What happens when the next chip is way better(hearing 67x better, not just the 10x from initial claims)? Well all those chips need to be dumped fast and depreciate that second and the datacenter gets bankrupted and parted out

Just like mobile apps, subs will never come close to the growth expectation. Given trillions are tied up in AI, subs aren't going to do it.

downrightmike··on Gov. Newsom signs executive order targeting AI safety 'before it's too late'
There are two types of AI safety:

1. The companies that make AI only care if AGI can happen. Terminators can nearly wipe out humanity, but that is A-Ok with them. They don't care about current or near current future people. They are far future. They specifically have no empathy for anyone except whatever exists in a million years.

2. Everyone else who thinks that AI shouldn't be used to kill anyone

The people in group 1 love that people mistake what they say for meaning AI safety as group 2 sees it.

Just more effective altruism bullshit in another shit bag

downrightmike··on Monsanto's Cruel, and Dangerous, Monopolization on American Farming (2008)
I just found out that farmers spray enough of the chems to kill all the plants off so they can be harvested at the same time. They aren't applying it just to grow, they then pump it full of them and then we eat that. No wonder why people are getting sick from it.
