War on drugs has way to much history to answer that question on HN. The answers are endless and not satisfactory to anyone that doesn't understand how complex the entire web of politics actually can get.

What we have at the end of the day is a mental health crisis, an opiod crisis, depression and suicide is more prevalent than ever, we are practically number 1 at jailing people in the world, the amount of money collected and spent fighting drugs in this country could have most likely solved the homeless problem, paid for education for generations, kept our infrastructure updated more than it is today, organized crime would probably still be organized but not profitable enough to topple entire sections of the planet (south and Central America as an example), our veterans wouldnt be in as much pain as they are in today, etc etc...(without even accounting for black market profits)

I am not saying the war on drugs is a specific tool to jail minorities because that ruins the entire conversation by pointing at one issue and not looking at anything else. Yes minorities are jailed in alarming numbers for a variety of reasons. But people not in jail are dying everyday because of the drug war via organized crime, street crime (gangs), overdoses, and suicides.

The war on drugs isn't responsible for all of societies problems in America but it sure as hell created most of them.

All this tech is great. But we are kidding ourselves if we say we liked advertising or if it benefits anybody except the people putting them up.

advertising is a literal cancer on society. If it was gone even in the simplest of forms so you aren't able to legally see advertising until you turn 21 years old. Or have our kids be able to grow up until they turn 18 without seeing a single advertisement.

Especially big pharma ads!

Would be wonderful to have a majority of the countries engineers rally overnight and protest by not showing up to work. It would literally take 1 day, less than 48 hours to permanently change the course of history forever. NVIDIA 2016+, SSD, ASUS, Probably ROG they have other models too. Depending on the screen size etc. anything from 1k - 1200$ will last a very long time. Grabbed a year old laptop for 750$ used (Should have waited for the cyber monday newegg sale)

Between the resources at Google/ Yahoo/ FB/ Ycombinator alone they have the money, lawyers, know how, and have had since November of last year to do something about this, anything. anything at all. Actually, any fortune 500 company. Not a single whisper from wall street. not a single whisper from the private sector. This is that opportunity to build something new and fresh and in our own control, something that will most likely take years and years to accomplish but once its done and stable enough to handle the countries users there will literally be zero use for an ISP beyond a public utility.

Black americans oppose any kind of social service that might benefit anybody but themselves including other black americans.

People are people and ignorance doesn't have a color. It has always been like this. Blaming one or the other doesn't actually fix anything and it is also why nobody brings it up any longer not because they are afraid to mention it.

It sounds absolutely insane right? Well good, that is the point. As insane as they are for fighting literally everything about making the internet an enjoyable experience or a beneficial one. As insane as they are for welcoming and warming to the idea of throttling and controlling our internet we need to hit them harder than ever before and constantly non stop until we get what we want.

Which means doing things kinda the old fashioned way. Talking about it. With other people. Not flagged or downvoted into oblivion.

With all the people on Hacker news and how much reach this relatively small site gets I can guarantee it's only a matter of time until we all become a target. (I don't remember a single flagged political discussion on HN before the last election happened)

And besides if the techno political revolution doesn't start on HN where will it start? How much longer are we going to wait until the billionaires decide they don't want a free internet? How much longer are we going to wait until corporations decide five eyes actually isn't enough for them?
