if i dont click those 5 presses fast enough it instead opens apple cash or whatever it’s called
i’m assuming that in a stressful situation it’d be much more consistent to hold down power and volume rather than clicking quickly
Also there’s something to be said about the fact that the eye is a squishy analog device, and so even if the medium wavelengths cones are deficient, long wavelength cones (red-ish) have overlap in their light sensitivities along with medium cones so…
and there’s the fact that every update actually seems to improve the user experience is something quite astonishing in the current climate
im still reluctant about wayland but the work the kde team have put in to make it just work (x11 dpi, fractional scaling, actually supporting extensions) is just lovely
at some point surely some dynamic linking is warranted
the fact the quake engine’s internals still live on in so many modern games is quite a feat
this is probably one of the most promising candidates for an init system aside from systemd, right? I know openrc is still having trouble with parallel startups as a result of its design which is almost a must at this point. s6 is in the works from what I hear, but not configurable via simple config files yet.
As for the snapshots, things like LVM snapshots are pretty coarse, especially for someone like me where I run dm-crypt on top of LVM
I’d say zfs would be pretty well missed with its data integrity features. I’ve heard that btrfs is worse in that aspect, so given that btrfs saved my bacon with a dying ssd, I can only imagine what zfs does.
zfs is out of tree leaving it as an unviable option for many people. This news means that bcachefs is going to be in a very weird state in-kernel, which leaves only btrfs as the only other in-tree ‘modern’ filesystem.
This news about bcachefs has ramifications about the state of ‘modern’ FSes in Linux, and I’d say this news about the btrfs maintainer taking a step back is related to this.
