Same. I could totally relate. Comfortable isolation sounds blissful.

After a long day I tend to zone out and my partner tells me it's like they're talking to a wall.

donutshop··on Some advice I would give to a junior DevOps Engineer
The siloing causes tons of issues from what I have observed.

Why do we need a two month lead time now to ship a new static page?

How could we have drifted so far that we need kubernetes for that?

How is it possible that we need a platform team to build yet another later of abstraction from our cloud providers?

Why do we have more yaml than the code we're shipping?

I don't agree with this generalization for good communication "In my experience more extroverted and “chaty” engineers have it better on average."

Often times we conflate loud communication with good communication. In my personal experience there are lots of verbose individuals that are poor communicators.

donutshop··on Tell HN: Pet Projects vs. OSS Contribution
Either is fine IMO. I'd personally be more interested to have the person walk through their decision process than seeing the end result. Always fascinating to have someone explain it. If they copied and pasted it and hadn't been forthcoming it'll be obvious once the discussion gets to the meatier parts.

Love Nebula, keep up the good work!

Do you thing the tech landscape today would have allowed for nebula to be born? Lots of companies now have strict IP agreements they have team members sign.

donutshop··on 2023 DevOps Is Terrible
Underrated comment
donutshop··on 2023 DevOps Is Terrible
> DevOps just makes the problem worse which it is intended to solve. DevOps started from "deploying is too hard, and the developers don't know how to run complicated shell scripts to deploy our software to release, anyone should be able to deploy it and have it scale!". However, most companies started to cargo-cult Google and just built everything in the "most scalable" way, incurring tons of overhead, both in deployment friction and hardware costs, so we are back to DevOps being an almost completely separate field from software engineering, and the programmers still can't deploy software.

Absolutely this. Instead of collaborating to solve problems we are wasting time on pet projects.

donutshop··on Bitwarden login down due to Azure outage
> Using something like vaultwarden? I'm curious how do you keep it secure from intrusion? I'm looking to do the same

The official bitwarden self hosted setup works flawlessly. Hosting it at home and access it through tailscale.
