donttrack··on Tesla Owner Billed over $14,000 for Accidental Full Self-Driving Purchase
My daughter managed to purchase two movies (Last Round and Frozen 2) on our Apple TV. She was 8 months at the time.
donttrack··on Kolyma highway in Yakutia, also known as the Road of Bones, is on fire
The consensus between experts is that it will create a fire hurricane.
donttrack··on Hong Kong protests: 'I'm in Australia but I feel censored by Chinese students'
not buying chinese made products is the only thing that will work. look at it as voting.
donttrack··on The Great Hack: A film that goes behind the scenes of the Facebook data scandal
Great movie.

Assuming that data is basically a tool for doing PsyOps, it certainly puts the social networks operated by for example Chinese companies in a different light. That would mean total control.

Could you imagine if the Silicon Valley companies were obligated to share their data troves with the American government?

I understand now why every little shithole in China (e.g. my parents in law's small village) have better Internet fiber connections than I will ever have in Scandiavia.

donttrack··on Ditching Windows: 2 Weeks with Ubuntu Linux on the Dell XPS 13
What? That doesn't make any sense at all. Someone goes through the trouble of developing a network adapter and doesn't provide a Windows driver??? What DO they provide drivers for then??
donttrack··on The NSA Continues to Violate Americans' Internet Privacy Rights
Negative thoughts detected! Your comment is now being run through a text pattern recognizer to tie it up with your Facebook and your email account. God forbid you might have a stray creative thought somewhere ever, that may threaten our precious democracies.

Have a nice life.

donttrack··on How Hollywood Is Racing to Catch Up with Netflix
They gotta fill the whole spectrum of people, I suppose. As long as there is something for me, I am satisfied and I do find a gem of documentary once in a while or an old movie, I didn't watch for a long time.
donttrack··on How Europe Learnt to Swim
Thank you. I will read up on it.
donttrack··on How Europe Learnt to Swim
What is the problem exactly with this "rip"? I often go swimming in the ocean although not in Australia.
donttrack··on Always-on Alibaba office app fuels backlash among Chinese workers
I will give you a raise, if you let me track you, so I can make sure you get enought sleep and exercise!
donttrack··on Always-on Alibaba office app fuels backlash among Chinese workers
If it works, it works. I remember standing at the base of the new Tencent double tower, when it was being constructed. They were almost done with the concrete skeleton and the beams looked all crooked standing there looking up at the structure - each column on each floor was slightly misplaced compared to the previous one. I am no construction engineer, but I believe they should have been placed in a straight line, but maybe I am wrong..
donttrack··on The Peril of the Laptop Sticker
I have a "powered by MonogDB" bumper sticker...

... and laptop stickers too.

donttrack··on The History of Ice Cream
Sugar is a drug. Thats what happened...
donttrack··on China Mines Silicon Valley for Tech Talent
> How, if ever, you felt the lack of information freedom?

Never really thought about it except those times I forgot to pay my VPN

> Is it so polluted as it looks?

Cleaner than my home town in Scandinavia. Was living in South part of China.

donttrack··on Forgotten Employee (2002)
Never get tired of reading this story.
donttrack··on The “Doorway Effect” – forgetting why you entered a room
Not only me then.. I thought I was just getting old.
donttrack··on Anti-Piracy lawyers sentenced to prison for defrauding copyright holder clients
I remember one of these guys from back in the early computing days. He would go after young kids for pirating c64 games. What a prick.
donttrack··on The One-Name Email, a Silicon Valley Status Symbol, Is Wreaking Havoc
I once contracted at a company that gave out random three letter initials to people. Prized ones were initials such as SQL, TCP and the like.
donttrack··on For more and more people, work appears to serve no purpose
I now know how that woman at the end of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" must have felt...

That movie might have been a metaphor for corporate work places.

donttrack··on In Twitter’s early days, only one celebrity could tweet at a time
I always get a message saying the request took too long to execute, if I click a link leading to Twitter. Have to reload the page a couple of times to make it work.

Usually don't click on Twitter links for this reason.

donttrack··on Getting Google to ban our entire company
I understood it as if they used GSuite as well. How would 200 independent Google accounts be shut down, if one of them violated the terms. That sounds like an even bigger problem then..
donttrack··on Getting Google to ban our entire company
So on the last day at my shit job in the shit office, I should just go ahead and abuse the refund policy? Sounds crazy to me..
donttrack··on Disabling Callkit for China Apps
Didn’t have any problems with the phones I bought in China so far.
donttrack··on Gardener: Manage Kubernetes clusters across multiple cloud providers
I did this last year by using wireguard VPN between all nodes. It worked quite good I would say.

It was for a proof of concept project, so I don’t know how it would perform in production but it was promising.

donttrack··on Binary SMS – The old backdoor to your new thing
That might be my fault. I worked on the tcpip and sms protocol stacks for the 55 and 65 series Siemens phones..

Sorry..

I know of at least one small Easter egg if anyone has a S65 lying around somewhere. I don’t believe it was discovered by anyone before. Might also work on the 55 devices - don’t quite remember as it was a long time ago.

donttrack··on Binary SMS – The old backdoor to your new thing
Actually the reply to the ping originates from the network itself and not the phone and it would work with any class of SMS - you just need to set the “delivery receipt” bit in the SMS. Then the network will send a receipt to the sender when the message has been delivered.
donttrack··on Show HN: Whiteboardfree – Developer Jobs at Companies That Don't Whiteboard
I was “surprise whiteboarded” recently. It was my first whiteboard interview and I actually thought it was an interesting experience.
donttrack··on Ask HN: Which VPN?
Don’t use strongVPN. They shared my info. Got a letter from some Hollywood lawyers after someone had been running a torrent download over my VPN (would share my WiFi on and off from my phone with visiting colleagues, if they had trouble with our corporate VPN and someone probably had a movie torrent download or seed running in the background by mistake).
donttrack··on Ask HN: Which VPN?
ExpeessVPN works fine. using it right now in china.
donttrack··on Binary SMS – The old backdoor to your new thing
Binary PDUs can be tricky to send between operators - especially when those operators are in different countries. Often you will find that the PDU messages simply disappear. Internally within an operator network there shouldn’t be any problem usually.

That is probably why twilio doesn’t support it.
