donniezazen··on Acrobat Reader for Linux removed
I will have to try Zathura but since KDE is my choice of desktop environment Okular comes natural. Long before I was using KDE, I needed a feature full PDF viewer and I found Okular. I mostly need annotations which it does fine. I have since then never felt a need for any other PDF viewer.

Okular[1] is the best PDF Reader on Linux. Enough said.

donniezazen··on India’s Answer to Google Glass: The Smartshoe
> The shoes sync up with a smartphone app that uses Google maps and vibrate to tell users when and where to turn to each their destination.

You have to take into consideration that internet is not really great in India. Slow internet will force drawing of battery in mere an hour or two. Secondly, Google Maps in India isn't as great as it is in western countries.

I had to literally uninstall Moves because it would eat up at least 15-20% of battery compared to it used to either not take more than 5% of battery in US.

donniezazen··on Android development has its own Swift
As someone new to both programming and Android development, I think the biggest help is not some easy language but the questions and problems that have been asked on sites like StackOverflow. You can replace the language but how do you replace that whole stack of help articles written for Java for Android.
donniezazen··on Show HN: Track changes in product price, get notifications by email
Reminds me of stocks. How do you tell if the price is at lowest? If it is not at it's lowest you are losing money. If it is at lowest and you didn't buy it you lose money too.
donniezazen··on Linus Torvalds gives a tour of his home office
I don't think he cares about KISS philosophy. I think he has found what he likes to do and that helps him stay focus and cut noise while most meddle with productivity techniques.
donniezazen··on Ask HN: What to do when you are successful, hate it, and can't seem to change?
You live in Utah. Go take a hike, literally.
donniezazen··on Show HN: Bvckup 2 – Simple Fast Backup for Windows
These are all good tools but I am worried about using Amazon's infrastructure. They would gladly hand over your data.
donniezazen··on Linus Torvalds gives a tour of his home office
I have always found it pretty interesting that he has the most uninteresting setups.
donniezazen··on Show HN: Bvckup 2 – Simple Fast Backup for Windows
I have been thinking about my own backups for some time. Do you guys prefer rolling your own setup for full system backup or use services like CrashPlan? Do you guys trust services like S3/Glacier? When backing up your system do you bar specific files from being backed up like GPG/SSH keys, etc.?

donniezazen··on Amazon Cognito
Would you guys trust Amazon data services like EC2/S3 for backing up your system which includes all your GPG/SSH keys, photos, important documents like tax returns, etc.?
donniezazen··on LastPass Finds Security Holes In Its Online Password Manager
What do you guys use to store GPG and SSH keys passphrases? Your GPG can be your most valuable stuff. Remembering passphrase of several subkeys seems impossible. The only two passwords I remember are Google Account and LastPass. I could probably remember GPG Master key passphrase but do you think it could also be saved in LastPass.

Google's open source investment hugely astonishes me but as far as desktop is concerned they are also hugely oblivious and ignorant (Yes, I am talking about Drive for Linux).

Apologies, I am not sure which one of these you are talking about.

Looks like Fedora users have a lot of choice. Which of these is the author talking about?
donniezazen··on Songza is Joining Google
Creative industry in Asian country are highly disorganized. For India, one of the best possible way to watch any new content if either in movie theaters or live on television. Internet sucks and cable companies suck too that makes it pretty hard for folks to get content they actually want to watch. Tech savvy folks go for torrents and less techy folks buy pirated content from street vendors.

Insight is they are based off NY which makes they impervious to Indian laws. And personally, I haven't come across any good Indian website that gives you impression that you are buying legal content.

donniezazen··on Things You Should Know About Tor
I have always wondered about that. What if I completely switch all my network traffic to Tor continue using all the services as I currently do? What are the implications involved here?
donniezazen··on Songza is Joining Google
I wonder if they are even legal.
donniezazen··on Songza is Joining Google
Half of the time it doesn't even work.
donniezazen··on The Sinking Ship of E-Mail Security
I am always scared that if I start signing my emails (the least I can do) they might start looking weird to my friends, family, and colleagues. They may even think that the block of gibberish may be spam. I do like my KDE KMail client which masks the signing information and presents signed and unsigned messages in a sane way.
donniezazen··on Ask HN: What projects are you working on?
I have been working on my first Android app. Nothing big just uses a few spinners and a mathematical formula. Halfway finishing through the app I learned that my hypothesis was wrong. Lesson is before writing the code make sure one has think it through. I am just learning so that is fine.

donniezazen··on The Joy of Typing
Seems like GNU Typist is quite popular in this thread. I was wondering how do you learn to use right fingers for right buttons. I could use GNU Typist but I might just be practicing with wrongs fingers.
donniezazen··on The Sorry State of Emacs Lisp Package Archives
Have you ever blogged about your personal wiki or knowledge management as you say in the other comment? I am interested in knowing more about for my personal needs. What kind of information do you store in your org-mode like journals, goals, projects - personal or work related, quick notes, etc.? Do you use Emacs GUI or in terminal?
donniezazen··on The Sorry State of Emacs Lisp Package Archives
As a beginner, I find it very comfortable to hit a few click to build an app or fast prototype using xml/layout editor and I don't see that happening in Emacs, unless I am wrong.

I have recently started using Android Studio and it so quick to give you code suggestion aka code completion. It has literally reduced the amount of time I have to spend writing code by many folds. Is that possible in Emacs?

Over the past few months, I have developed an opinion that Emacs is more suited for old school guys who hacked early computers. As someone who started programming with IDEs on modern computer, one isn't really aware of lackings of IDEs, if any.

donniezazen··on The Sorry State of Emacs Lisp Package Archives
I started learning Emacs and then forgot what I learned after a few days. Steep learning curve is quite depressing. And then their are great IDEs like Android Studio and Qt Creator for programming and LibreOffice for writing. What would I gain if I put time and energy in learning Emacs?
