donmb··on A Brief History of Who Ruined Burning Man
Wise words man. You just described perfectly why I hate growing up. It not only has nostalgic reasons why we think the past was always better, you nailed this down. But in fact this is an illusion then and obviously a complete subjective opinion. I'm in my mid 30s, not married, would say solid career. I try to stay around young people, that's my thing. Makes me feel and stay young :) so at least for me the present can be as awesome as the past and I hope if I have kids that won't change and someday I can go on festivals with them together ;)

Swap [Burning Man] with any modern or long lasting festival. Here in Germany it would be "Rock am Ring" or "Southside". Very well written. We all will sooner or later act like our grandparents and say "in the past everything was better". If we are honest, it wasn't.

Good stuff but that blue CTA color is somehow causing eye cancer.
donmb··on How I Built a Custom Camper Van (2015)
Super cool. I have a VW T3 and would love to have your talent. Travelled 8 weeks through Scandinavia with it. Now I got inspired to build more stuff in it. Q: Is it allowed in the US to park and sleep where you want? Heard different stories.
donmb··on [dead]
Poor Americans can only vote between pest (Trump) and cholera (Clinton). I don't know why this is still called a democracy.
donmb··on Big Startup Events Feel More Like “Startup Zoos”
For us, attending Web Summit was worth it. We were there as "Alpha" and gained a lot of attention although we did not do much for it but standing there and "waiting". Interesting people came by and now we have a lot of contacts to follow up which was our goal.

Of course it was super crowded but for me the very worst part of it was, that the internet was super unstable and crashed every few seconds. This is a shame for a format like this.

This is pure awesomeness. I really enjoy all the Ruby projects. http://getawesomeness.com/get/ruby
donmb··on SEO hidden text and AJAX
What you did is proofing that google indexes hidden text. What you did not proof is how that impacts your ranking. Google will know that this text is hidden, although it is indexed and that is what is important.
donmb··on Things to Know When Making a Web Application in 2015
Rails has most of this out of the box. Use Rails :)
donmb··on Chess: Who will win in this riveting game of Math.random() vs. Math.random()?
More interesting is checkmate with two knights which is only possible if the other king makes a mistake. You cannot force it so if two good players end up in this situation, they mostly agree on a draw.

Why is a one year old article featured here? Pretty old story.
donmb··on Rosetta comet landing – live stream
Does anyone know where exactly Tschuri is right now in our solar system? Couldn't find any map or sth that illustrates that.
donmb··on The dark side of .io
I don't own a .io domain although thought about it several times. At least now I know I will not buy one. Thanks HN.
donmb··on Interactive map shows where native and new Berliners live
The main problem of this development is the fact that more and more old local people cannot afford the rents anymore and have to move to the suburbs although they have lived in the centre for almost all of their life. A Kiez is changing very quickly: it starts with an abandoned Kiez which everybody avoids - low rents etc. Then creatives come and a scene is developing. Bars/Clubs etc get attracted, more people move there, rents rise, bars/clubs close again -> scene moves somewhere else. Funny is that a lot of my friends who have moved to Berlin complain that their local club/pub has closed (cannot afford rent anymore) but in fact they're responsible for it. Atm Berlin is still an awesome place with a lot of independent spirit but that might dramatically change within the next 10 years.

Great work!
donmb··on Discover a startup every time you open a new tab
Didn't realise there are so much useless startups out there.

donmb··on Maximize your tweet's chance of discovery via hashtags
You can also look up the hashtag and check traffic there. If there is a tweet every 2s => too much traffic to get discovered. If there is a tweet only every 30min => chance high. Don't get why I would pay $15+ for such a service.
donmb··on Only 90s Web Developers Remember This
I remember working with MS Frontpage in the beginning. Frames were the shit in 1998. Who got the most amazing running font? Who has the most freaking elevator midi as a background sound? Yes, the background sound tag. Does that even exist anymore?
