Until fairly recently heat pumps didn't operate at the temperatures regularly seen in the northern US and Canada. Hard to shift a lifetime of the choices being expensive resistance electric heating or (comparatively) cheaper burning fuel.
Also worth noting that the most recently sold device (correct me if I'm wrong) that this release is supporting is the 6th gen iPod Touch, which was discontinued in May 2019. That's over 3 years of security updates at the worst case.
A quick search reveals that there have been about 15,000 deaths from covid in Cook County (The county Chicago is in, and makes up a large portion of). There's been about 110 weeks since the start of the pandemic, that averages out to about 136 deaths per week.
The phrase "Eternal September" was coined on usenet once ISPs opened the floodgates of users to what was once a small community. The "September" referring to the yearly influx of new freshmen gaining access via universities.
As I understand, braking occurs across the entire train, not just via the drive axles, so the hybrid regeneration method would be a considerable departure from normal operations.
I hadn't really thought about it, but that makes a ton of sense. Smoke detectors typically use an alpha-emitter, smoke absorbs alpha particles, so a failure to detect is what triggers the alarm. The cost for a false-negative is much higher than a false-positive, so that's what the detector should default to.
The Smarter Every Day channel on Youtube did a series onboard a sub, and a couple of specifics that I remember being censored from the videos were 1) Performance characteristics of the sub (ie, how fast it could dive, how deep) and 2) How it detected other submarines.
I noticed a few days ago that it didn't work for me, but used a site up/down checker that also said it was down. Figured they were having issues and didn't think any more about it. I just added a static entry to my pihole, so it works for me now.
For anyone curious, Apple has release a few updates for iOS 12 since support for some devices was dropped with iOS 13, with 12.5.4 being released in June. The iPad Air mentioned above being a nearly 8 year old device. Are any Android devices of that vintage still receiving any updates?
Drawing solar from states to the east would only make the duck curve worse though, right? Power production would taper off even earlier than the peak demand.
The map appears to show the route as being mostly highway, with the destination being the airport. Depending on the time of day it wouldn't be unreasonable for that to average to about 60mph.
I would much rather be recognized as a pedestrian than a cone. Hitting a cone isn't great, but usually fairly harmless, the same can not be said about hitting a person.
I think people are conflating watts and amps, watts measure power, amps measure flow. Watts = amps * volts. High power usage with low voltages results in high amperage.
