dnate··on Deep Nose may one day be the best diagnostician in medicine
you underestimate the need of rich people for health care. It will be first used to cure the rich.
dnate··on Do You Love Me? [video]
or "take a break" 30 seconds to switch battery packs
dnate··on How AWS Added Apple Mac Mini Nodes to EC2
what about buying second hand macs? I am not agreeing to any terms there, how can apple still enforce those rules then?
dnate··on U.S. Used Patriot Act to Gather Logs of Website Visitors
can you explain a bit? I thought this was a reasonable attempt at changing the status quo of the US health care system.
dnate··on French fathers will now get 28 days of paternity leave
you may want to watch this video and check your fear of overpopulation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LyzBoHo5EI
dnate··on French fathers will now get 28 days of paternity leave
I call BS on that one. What about the fact that switching companies is by fare more effective than staying at the same company salary-wise? Then it should also be a problem to employers if someone stayed at a single company for a long time as it constitutes as "missed opportunities for promotion"
dnate··on Thirty years ago today I made the final gold masters for Monkey Island
I thought it was well established that he was being abused, not the other way around?

dnate··on Amazon drivers are hanging smartphones in trees to get more work
you do understand that the only difference is a fixed waiting time vs. a randomized one.

Meaning you still wait the same amount of time on average, just have a bunch of "that was quick" and "wtf. I'm waiting for 4 hours" thrown in there. Not an improvement if you ask me.

dnate··on A Nixon deepfake, a 'moon disaster' speech and an information ecosystem at risk
Trust in media with a reputation. Trust in journalism to unearth attempts of deceit. Quality journalism and reputation will become more important and powerful than ever
dnate··on Testosterone, a key hormone in the context of Covid-19 pandemic
Maybe he sees the female population at risk?
dnate··on Elon Musk reopening Tesla factory despite Alameda County order
He makes a very good point. You shouldn't down vote an opinion only because you disagree with it.
dnate··on U.S. Economy Shrinks at 4.8% Pace, Signaling Start of Recession
wow, those poor bay area house owners.
dnate··on How a 'growth mindset' can lead to success
That sounds like you replaced one belief system with another. It is hard for me to see that one is necessarily better or "truer" than the other.
dnate··on Elon Musk’s plan to build one Starship a week and settle Mars
living under big shields perhaps?
dnate··on Burnoutindex.org
Also, that theory does not work with the fact, that a lot of burnout victims are social workers.
dnate··on Hippy: React Native Alternative by Tencent
> - It uses a closed-source fork of libv8 on Android called X5[6].

this makes my spidey senses tingle. What might be hidden there?

dnate··on Show HN: I built a website for sharing salary info
I would strongly suggest to add the option of sharing the salary without sharing the company name. Especially in the early adoption phase: People are probably the first one of their company to share their salary. If their position is somewhat unique, it will effectively not be anonymous.
dnate··on Oakland shows how to expand housing supply: tell developers they can build homes
no, thats just growth
dnate··on Epstein's injuries look more like murder than suicide, noted pathologist says
I am shocked as well how many people in this thread seem to argue that this was not murder. It is ridiculously obvious. Occams razor cleanly shaves off the option that this was in fact a very convenient suicide
dnate··on Epstein's injuries look more like murder than suicide, noted pathologist says
any sources on that?
dnate··on Nokia’s collapse turned a sleepy town in Finland into an internet wonderland
> Berlin to London to San Francisco

one of those is not like the other. Berlin has recently passed a law capping rent at below 9 Euro per square meter (much less in many regions) all over the city.

It's the first time such a law was passed anywhere in Germany. [1]

dnate··on Nautilus to be acquired by an investor group of fans
I, for one, am a huge fan of their gym equipment. No wonder they got aquired
dnate··on Leaving Prison at 72
How many people in the world do you think are responsible for organizing something "like that". maybe 100? 1000? Throwing this story in with "many drugs are terrible" so we should lock up drug traffickers seems wrong to me.
dnate··on Singapore to become first country banning ads on sugary drinks
> It's a really good example of the trade off between freedom and safety.

Do you mean an example of being very far on the safety side, sacrificing freedom?

dnate··on Ask HN: What do you self-host?
I self host a flask app on my raspberry pi, soldered to the garage door opener.

I have hosted media folders/streaming applications for friends and family, but this has been by far my most used and most useful hack.

dnate··on Billiards Is a Good Game (1975)
can you explain what "scoring with carom" means? I googled for 10 minutes and didn't fully understand it.
dnate··on What happens to tech workers when their skills become obsolete?
Across the EU most universities have tuition costs of <$100 per month. The bulk of that usually goes to a public transport ticket.

For people who can't afford that, there are usually some forms of getting it for free.

Higher education really shouldn't be a matter of personal finances.

dnate··on California bans private prisons
I have also noticed this trend, not just online, but also offline with friends.

While it seemed annoying at first, I quickly came to love the fact that this happens. I feel like this might be a natural tendency starting to be developed in the wake of fake news, and opinion-generating bot armies on the rise.

Better to ask for a source one time too many, than one time too little.

dnate··on CDC says stop vaping as mystery lung condition spreads
yes, I don't see any problem with that order. Seems more like gatekeeping to me.
