dmux··on The microservices cargo cult
Currently in the process of separating several monolithic applications into services. We've found success in identifying individual "resources" that are present and common in each of the monoliths. Once identified, we implement that resource end-point in our service and swap out the existing code with calls to the service. Divide and conquer.
dmux··on The return of the Tcl browser plugin
Not exactly "production" software, but we've started using Tcl as a cleaner alternative to Bash.
dmux··on Perl 6 hands-on tutorial – A small introduction to a big language [pdf]
integer?
dmux··on Thinking Forth (1984)
Forth is a stack-based point-free[1] programming language where Scheme is a functional programming language. Both Forth and Lisp/Scheme offer functional composition. Forth is similar to Smalltalk in that they're both a live programming environment. You interact with and manipulate the running system.

dmux··on Thinking Forth (1984)
Excellent book as an introduction to Software Engineering. Also, Forth is a fun language/live-environment to play around with. When I first started using Forth (Gforth) the live-programming matched with point-free programming is left with me the unshakable impression that 'this is what programming should be like.'
dmux··on Ask HN: What is the most mind blowing book you've ever read?
If on a Winter's Night, a Traveler -- Italo Calvino
dmux··on Ask HN: What is the most mind blowing book you've ever read?
His last name is Simmons. And the Hyperion Cantos is an excellent series. His other books are worth reading too: Summer of Night, The Terror.
dmux··on Why Lisp?
Do you know if the attaching to a remote instance is available in Racket? I spent some time learning racket a year or two ago, but was under the impression they took out some of the really cool features (or I never discovered them)
dmux··on Why OO Sucks
In regards to the first quote, I find it helpful having both the data structures and algorithms in one "cage." I like having all relevant data in one easy to find location.
dmux··on Rand Paul Pledges to Immediately End NSA Mass Surveillance If Elected President
I agree if we're talking about a conglomerate, but how many individual corporations can coerce other corporations into handing over information?
dmux··on The Mid-Career Crisis of the Perl Programmer
I think this is what Andrew Hunt and David Thomas meant when they said "program _into_ a language" as opposed to "program in a language" in their book The Pragmatic Programmer.
dmux··on The Death of Agile [video]
I'll just leave this here: http://seir.sei.cmu.edu/sheard/Life%20Cycle%20Silver%20Bulle...
dmux··on If goto statements are bad why does linux src have more than 10k of them?
Ah yes, the "good" programmer that is well versed in when goto statements are warranted.
dmux··on Apple is hiding an embarrassing iPhone 6 camera bulge
You're right, probably not a cause for "panic," but would the phone rock when placed on a flat surface?
dmux··on Minix 3.3.0
The accumulated filth of all their drivers and patches will foam up about their waists and all the programmers and sysops will look up and shout "Save us!"... and we'lll look down and whisper "No."
dmux··on Quire: Building a Large Application with Dart
Does Dart have libraries for interfacing with DB systems on the server side yet?
dmux··on Fast, lightweight desktop manager written in AutoHotkey
The only way I'd ever use Windows is through Ludovico.
dmux··on Choosing the Right JavaScript Framework
Thanks for posting this. I have yet to get into front-end work, but this looks like the least painful way to dive in I've seen.
dmux··on How to Be Polite
Most of our social interactions are "performances."
dmux··on The Wyvern Programming Language
Non-starter.
dmux··on Ask HN: How to succeed with poor working memory as programmer?
As other people have said, to-do lists are great, but one thing I'd like to point out is that using a physical notebook over an electronic method of recording things has -- at least for me -- been highly beneficial. I carry a pen and small (fits in my back pocket) notebook everywhere I go. Taking hand written notes and doodling along side them is an excellent way to help your memory. Also, the slower act of manually writing can be very therapeutic.
dmux··on Show HN: Tinman – the shiniest blog engine in Oz
I got excited from the title thinking it was written in the Oz language.
dmux··on Google Keep
The lesser of two evils is still evil.
dmux··on Ask HN: Have submissions shifted subject?
But repeated exposure is what it takes for actual change to take place. Is this whole NSA scandal one of those heat of the moment topics that we're prepared to move on from so easily?
dmux··on Bill Murray’s Unreleased 1984 Sci-Fi Comedy Is Now Online
So hip
dmux··on Poll: If Yoda was a programmer, what would be his go-to language?
Why isn't Perl listed?
dmux··on Ask HN: What programming language will you learn in 2014?
