dmourati··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
Not really. There is a difference between multicloud and cloud agnostic.
dmourati··on Ask HN: How to be less argumentative online?
Start with what you agree on. Read to understand and learn. Be kind. It's okay to disagree but really only after you've done those things first.
dmourati··on Demetrification: Removing the numbers of likes and retweets from public view
Thats my first name which was what drew me to this thread!
dmourati··on Demetrification: Removing the numbers of likes and retweets from public view
Title got the key name wrong, it's demetrication.
dmourati··on After massive Target outage, some stores say registers running again
I bet Kubernetes was somehow responsible for this outage.
dmourati··on A new round of antitrust questions can’t go well for Google
No but they do have an open peering policy meaning they'll generally peer with anyone who wants to free of charge.

dmourati··on Setting Up a Pi Hole Made My Home Network Faster
I skimmed the blog and setup pi-hole at home. So far so good. I was mildly irritated at the Docker fanboy tone but that's my own bias.
dmourati··on In San Francisco, Making a Living from Your Billionaire Neighbor’s Trash
Presumably you are referring to California vs Greenwood. https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/486/35/
dmourati··on Boss asks if I think this is the right job for me?
Can you read and rewrite the second paragraph please? I am having a hard time understanding especially sentences 2 and 4.
dmourati··on FDA warning brings young-blood transfusion company to a halt
I'm reminded of the title of a distributed systems post the original appears to be no longer working but here's a HN link:

dmourati··on Ask HN: What skills to acquire in 2019?
Non-crossfitter here. I have a personal trainer who is also a non-crossfitter. His assessment of the program is that it is too one size fits all.
dmourati··on I Used to Write for Sports Illustrated. Now I Deliver Packages for Amazon
You can tell from his writing that he has good things in his future. I applaud the tone and the honesty. Merry Christmas.
dmourati··on Google isn’t the company that we should have handed the Web over to
What is Edge?
dmourati··on Kademlia: A Peer-To-peer Information System Based on the XOR Metric (2002) [pdf]
Attended a "Papers we Love" presentation on this paper last year.
dmourati··on With Facebook at ‘War,’ Zuckerberg Adopts More Aggressive Style
Not true at all. Source, earned less than that much, bought a house in MV in the last 1.5 years.
dmourati··on Two Years, Four Nanodegree Programs, and a New Career
No longer true at Google about degree/GPA.
dmourati··on Two Years, Four Nanodegree Programs, and a New Career
I am advanced in my career but a beginner when it comes to AV. I'm lucky in that I have a job in the field as a newbie. I'm taking the Udacity SDC course starting next week.
dmourati··on With Facebook at ‘War,’ Zuckerberg Adopts More Aggressive Style
But you can make that ~500k/yr at a half dozen (at least!) other companies without compromising yourself and selling out. I think FB has a reputation as paying at or above the market max. It's not like the other FANGs or unicorns are slouches in the comp department.
dmourati··on Build a do-it-yourself home air purifier for about $25
I have the ~$800 pro version early in the video. It's an IQAir. I bought it when I bought my house. We were refinishing the hardwood floors and have a small child. My goal was to knock down the VOCs to make the room safe for him prior to move in.

It runs 24/7 in my bedroom now. Huge improvement in sleep quality. I've only had to change one of the filters once for about $100 after 1.5 years of run time.

dmourati··on Ask HN: Is it worth getting into distributed systems after 12 years full stack?
I mean people who claim full stack really aren't. It's a misnomer.
dmourati··on Ask HN: Is it worth getting into distributed systems after 12 years full stack?
I don't believe Full Stack is a real thing. I also believe you have probably been doing distributed systems even if you think you haven't.
dmourati··on My somewhat complete salary history as a software engineer
I worked briefly with Nicholas at Box though we never met. I recall him being one of a handful of Principal engineers at the company when I joined and aspiring to reach that position myself. I commend Nicholas for sharing this data and for the thoughtful way in which he laid out why he felt compelled to do so.

I wish Nicholas health and happiness.

dmourati··on Ask HN: How do you decide when you've done enough work for the day?
Try the pomodoro technique. https://lifehacker.com/productivity-101-a-primer-to-the-pomo... https://open.buffer.com/work-less/
dmourati··on I simulated California housing and learned about simulators
We bought our first home in Mountain View last year after renting for over eight years. All our schools are great. We're part of the Los Altos School District. Schools were a big part of where we chose to buy.
dmourati··on Ask a Knifemaker: The Truth About Damascus Steel
I'm a knife owner not a maker.
dmourati··on Ask a Knifemaker: The Truth About Damascus Steel
Knife community is pretty tight and also pretty accessible. I've exchanged emails with Devin Thomas and I'm a relative newbie.

I think of damascus as an aesthetic element first. Some people really like it, others find it too flashy.

dmourati··on Ask HN: How do I choose between a job offer from Google and a promising startup?
I've done both and now work for Google. You should read dan luu's coverage of this:

https://danluu.com/startup-tradeoffs/

dmourati··on In killing Inbox, Google takes another swipe at its most passionate users
I don't agree with the conclusion that passionate users are going to take their passion elsewhere. This feels like more of an idle threat by a scorned user.
dmourati··on Idempotence: What is it and why should I care?
I just think of the Wailers song: Do It Twice. "I'd like to say baby, you so nice I'd like to do the same thing twice, yeah!"
dmourati··on What to say when recruiters ask you to name the first number
You twice perpetuated the notion that older candidates are less likely to get the job because of their age. Simply giving it credence is ageism.
