dlhavema··on Satoshi Nakamoto made a post after years of silence?
Yeah I'm not a big fan of straight majority rules... not to say the US government is perfect...

Weren't the blacksmiths in Robin Hood only for the bad guy?

Nostalgia is king.
dlhavema··on Build a do-it-yourself home air purifier for about $25
I did this a couple years back. 2x 120mm fans and a rolled up filter in between with a cardboard box as the frame. I never thought it could do much, but also never left it running very long.

I've been begging for a good use of old computer fans...

dlhavema··on 67% of workers earning over $100k see themselves quitting in the next 6 months
Right.. kinda clickbaity?

One way to try to get a raise at a current job that I've done in the past is get an interview and see if you can get offers for a higher paid job and then use that as leverage for a counter offer.

I know there are already many threads about taking counter offers, but its not always a bad thing... in my experience, the manager just needed better justification for the higher ups. It was too large a company for him to just give me a bump.

dlhavema··on A True Story
I love the thing at the end about the sequels. This guy sounded pretty clever.
dlhavema··on The Bermuda Triangle of Wealth
I hear ya. Thanks for the clarification.
dlhavema··on The Bermuda Triangle of Wealth
Is that 60k a year just housing and food or guards and administration too? I'd hope there were more guards and security measures in place for prisoners than for college kids.
dlhavema··on Inside the World of D.I.Y. Ammunition
I'm just super glad they highlighted the fact that it's much easier to make a gun with normal off the shelf/modified metal than to 3D print one. Every other article that involves 3D printing guns is all "the world is over, people can make guns all by themselves!".. the only real difference is the reduced amount of metal in regards to detection
dlhavema··on Taxify is entering the e-scooter game
> and they have at least 20 rides in them before they're toast.

are you saying the scooters electric part dies after 20 rides?

dlhavema··on [dead]
Same hear. I had no idea.. sign of me getting older.
dlhavema··on The strength of a monopoly can be guessed at by calling customer support
Same here. I've gotten through multiple times. Sure I waited on the line 10 to 15 minutes each time. But I was expecting it longer hold times...
dlhavema··on Leaving Apple and Google: /e/ first beta
That is awesome. I like this name/pronunciation!
dlhavema··on AirConsole – Play multiplayer games together
Uggh.. don't get me started on Bixby... it's like a modern day Clippy... "I see you accidentally pressed the hardware button to awaken me the 10th time. how can i take over your screen today?"
dlhavema··on AirConsole – Play multiplayer games together
+1 for Drawful and the other one that is basically Baulderdash with phones. super fun for large groups of silly people.
dlhavema··on Show HN: Namegine – find a name for your startup or product
Thanks for following up,

I tried it on my mac ( looked good) but as you/your teammate reported, it is having issues getting data back from the API, every call is returning a 502

dlhavema··on Show HN: Namegine – find a name for your startup or product
Seems broken on mobile. Android Chrome. Cant click anyt hi ing to proceed. Neat concept. I'll try it on my mac...

dlhavema··on ESP32-B (ESP8266 successor) now available with 8MByte (double) RAM
Is there a module sorta like this available yet:

or an upgraded nodemcu type board?

dlhavema··on The Impossible Job: Inside Facebook’s Struggle to Moderate Two Billion People
I'm guessing it was a lot harder for stuff to go viral when it was only "friends of friends" vs "public"...

but i remember reading somewhere they throttle delivery of messages to friends until they can gauge feeedback.. not sure if that was confirmed or a rumor.

dlhavema··on Inaccurate Images of Colonial America Made by European Printmakers
was it only me who was expecting more of a gallery type site showing an image and describing it in english?
dlhavema··on Don’t Do This in Production
I'm a good example of that. I've been in software for about 12 years now and am only just getting started in the mentoring/training type roles. And that's only because I super had to...

How do you deal with someone who gets to a problem and cant figure it out and then just drops it without telling anyone or saying anything, and you dont figure it out for days or weeks?

dlhavema··on Don’t Do This in Production
We have a lot of recruiters sending us "senior full stack engineers" that dont knoe the language they are most confident in and end up being dev-ops engineers who want to get into coding. A lot of recruiting firms dont know how to to get candidates either
dlhavema··on Whole House Fan and Evaporative Cooler
My family lived in Phoenix, AZ since i was 6, and he had an Evap Cool and a traditional AC. Early in the summer the Evap works great and is way cheaper. Once it gets too hot or too humid, you switch over to the AC. The fun part was, my Dad would hold off switching as long as he could, and kind of compete with a friend nearby to see who could "stand it with the evap" as long as possible.

The hardest part i couldn't ever keep straight, was with the Evap you need doors open and with the AC you close them. i would get it straight by the time he'd switch over to the other system..

dlhavema··on E-waste mining could be big business and good for the planet
doesn't this process involve lots of nasty chemicals to extract the precious metals from circuit boards and the like? i saw an article on Hackady[0] about this a while back

dlhavema··on What's the history behind 192.168.1.1?
I gotta try out the 127.0.0.x thing at the end of the article. I never knew the range was so large!
dlhavema··on Amazon buys PillPack, an online pharmacy, for just under $1B
I can attest to this. I recently got 2 bottles of seemingly identical muscle relaxers, but they were just two diff manufacturers. And they made a point of calling it out so i knew why i got two half filled bottles..
