Paying for knowledge isn't FOMO. Would it still be considered FOMO if $7B were spent on Business & Productivity books?

The title is insane, nobody would ever guess what the article is actually about from it.

I haven't read the article, but I wonder if it's arguing that there isn't a difference in information quality between the paid sources and the free. Then you might attribute the spending to “FOMO”, but probably it's more meaningful to call it price-value bias, or something!

FOMO is specifically about real situations, not about just any opportunity cost from missing out on anything.

Extending the term like that is about as useful as saying "self-driving helicopters with the use of The Blockchain!"

This article is about the Chinese podcast industry and how people use it for education, and so this title makes no sense to me. What is being FOMOed? Why are neither the word "podcast" nor "education" used in the title? Who knows, but I bet it involves an editor thinking they need to appeal to millenials.

FOMO = Fear Of Missing Out, I know what it is but I had to Google the acronym.

Not surprised, my mother pays for Ximalaya and she's been convincing me to join for several years.

Podcasts and really anything to do with education are way bigger businesses in China than in the states.
