djoletina··on Sora: Creating video from text
What is your point? That they make multiple ones and pick out the best ones? Well duh? That’s literally how the model is going to be used.
djoletina··on You are what you love
Same here. And when you make a point of it in conversation you’re considered the crazy one. Let alone mention it to coworkers, you’re instantly a kissass.
djoletina··on I literally spoke with Nvidia's AI-powered video game NPCs
I don’t want to be a dick but this is a stupid take, that’s not even like 0.1% of occupations nor 0.1% of the workforce.
djoletina··on Circle (or highlight or scribble) to search
Wow, overly dramatic and without a point. It’s a demo for a product that is supposed to make money.

What did you expect, a FLIR image of a tank then circling it to find the model? Or a dead palestinian child next to an object in Gaza, then circling the object?

djoletina··on I Found David Lynch's Lost 'Dune II' Script
That article will be an expression of an opinion which could be written today as well. Doesn’t make it fact. Tastes shouldn’t be discussed.
djoletina··on I Found David Lynch's Lost 'Dune II' Script
People tend to project their personal preferences with an aura of superiority to the unknown future when everyone will ascend to their level and reach enlightenment.
djoletina··on Fail2ban Sucks (2020)
I agree completely. Security is not black and white, same goes for agents that are malicious, if you’re protected from script kiddies by changing your ssh port and adding fail2van then it’s a net positive any way you look at it. It’s important to be aware of course that you’ll need to go a step further if you want to protect from more competent attackers, but what percentage of us will be a target of one of those.
djoletina··on Rolex fined $100M for preventing its watches being sold online
I agree, the bottom line should be: they should be able to make this decision.
djoletina··on Ousted eLife editor on being fired in wake of Israel-Hamas remarks
Exactly! No country in the world gets a blanket permission to level an entire city with zero consequences.
djoletina··on Ousted eLife editor on being fired in wake of Israel-Hamas remarks
You think Saudi Arabia has public support? If this dude posted about Saudi Arabia doing something bad, would he be fired?
djoletina··on Ousted eLife editor on being fired in wake of Israel-Hamas remarks
Has there ever been a country in history so obviously doing bad things with so much worldwide support, especially from the west?
djoletina··on Hackers stole access tokens from Okta's support unit
Sources?

Genuinely curious, we use Okta and I’d like to understand why you are saying that.

djoletina··on Export Controls on Advanced Computing and Semiconductor Manufacturing Items
Completely agree, tbh both decisions (sanctions and no sanctions) have certain bad implications. But imho sanctions are much more dangerous in the long run for the US foreign policy.
djoletina··on LinkedIn is laying off nearly 700 employees
A lot of my friends and coworkers from Eastern Europe share my sentiments. Every job I’ve had was due to being recruited via LinkedIn without me lifting a finger, starting from 1k euros gross per month, up until 15x that.
djoletina··on LinkedIn is laying off nearly 700 employees
Unaffiliated completely. Maybe it’s just different here, but I’ve got a lot to thank LinkedIn for.
djoletina··on LinkedIn is laying off nearly 700 employees
Yup!
djoletina··on LinkedIn is laying off nearly 700 employees
I dunno, it literally got me to a 180k salary (Eastern Europe based so astronomical) just by me having a profile there. I didn’t have to find a job since 2015 thanks to it. You might argue that the feed is shit, but to me it’s normal human behavior trying to stand out and abusing everything that you can (including feed algos), so I just don’t look at it.

I’ll be forever grateful to LinkedIn and I would never be in the situation I am right now if it hadn’t have been for it.

djoletina··on Bootstrapping a SaaS Business in Germany: How I did it
Or don’t move out because you operate a business out of Germany and none of this is relevant. How many businesses do you think ever reach a phase where this is a problem, let alone actually reach it *and* want to move elsewhere.
djoletina··on Write code like you just learned how to program (2010)
These sound like straightforward bugs to find. I found it weird/hard to believe he would just blame it on something out of his control and nobody would question it.
djoletina··on Organization probably doesn't want to improve things
What is your point? It’s still a choice. It’s easier to spend more money than less money, great insight.
djoletina··on Azure dropping database support for MariaDB. Users advised to migrate to MySQL
I mean is it perfect? No. Are there better solutions and practices? Yes. But is it crazy and is it gonna cause irreparable damage? It is not unless you’re very irresponsible as a consumer. Either way that’s just my opinion.
djoletina··on Azure dropping database support for MariaDB. Users advised to migrate to MySQL
How is this insane, it’s a managed db that is no longer going to exist and they’re giving you two years to migrate away. Sounds fair to me.
djoletina··on Rimac unveils SineStack, battery energy storage system
Can you elaborate?
djoletina··on Hedy Lamarr (2018)
This is a forum and I’ve brought this up as a topic for conversation, I’m expressing my opinion. It’s a normal use of a forum.

And also, it sounds nothing like I’m doing that. “I feel” and “might not” are definitely signs that I’m not claiming anything just discussing the topic.

djoletina··on Hedy Lamarr (2018)
Sources please, I’m genuinely curious.
djoletina··on Hedy Lamarr (2018)
Where did I do that? I asked how is she -American in my OP.
djoletina··on Hedy Lamarr (2018)
I mean might be wrong to ask this question in a US based forum as you’re mostly going to be biased, but the reality is she is an Austrian that lived in the US. I feel like the hyphen changes her identity which she might not have agreed with.

Well you used a word that is crucial imho, roots, means where you come from, origins. I feel like I tend to have libertarian views regarding choosing your identity, which includes calling yourself American, Austrian or whatever, ultimately it’s you that should make this decision. But just adding hyphens to people with historical significance that decided to move to a country that at the time gave them an economic incentive by having the best market feels dirty. Especially considering that most other countries don’t do this.

djoletina··on Hedy Lamarr (2018)
If someone has three citizenships, what then?
djoletina··on Hedy Lamarr (2018)
She got US citizenship, this doesn’t/shouldn’t make her an Austrian-American actress since that implies that she has American roots.
djoletina··on Hedy Lamarr (2018)
Serious question, how is she “-American”, she lived and worked in the States in the later part of her life, but her roots aren’t American?
