djaro··on Has the 'Sexlessness Epidemic' Been Overstated?
If you asked 100 people, literally everyone would agree Arnold Schwarzenegger is more attractive than Danny Devito. For people in the middle it's a bit more subjective but there are people that are more or less attractive.
djaro··on Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi say they will use Tesla's EV charging plug
I doubt there is any overlap between "unbanked" people an people who can buy EVs
djaro··on Six Degrees of Wikipedia
Found one with 6 degrees of seperation:

Geronimus Polynomials -> Aenictus Raptor

You need to pick something that is only linked to in its "parent" article. So for example Aenictus Raptor is only really linked to on the Aenictus (genus) page, which is almost only linked to by the Ants page.

Don't do anything related to countries, because almost every article lists a country. So it's easy to traverse between them.

djaro··on Everyone on Earth is your cousin (2014)
The thing about the "unimportant politicians" is a thing in every industry.

As a relatively small YouTuber (50K subs), I have never really spoken to giant YouTubers with millions of subscribers.

But I have spoken to many medium sized YouTubers (100K-1M subs), who are speaking to those giant YouTubers as well as to me.

I don't know MrBeast, but I know a guy who has personally worked with him on videos.

One person can speak to a lot of imporant people throughout their career. You just have to meet them.

djaro··on BrainGPT turns thoughts into text
I would never use this because I cannot 100% control my thoughts (i.e. intrusive thoughts, songs stuck in head, secrets)
djaro··on Canadian internet bill S-210 is a step closer to becoming law
How else would you verify age?

If I buy alcohol I also need a "government ID"

djaro··on Canadian internet bill S-210 is a step closer to becoming law
That seems like a slippery slope.

We also require age verification for online gambling, and that hasn't had bad consequences either.

djaro··on Google Maps now looks more like Apple Maps
This becomes an issue in any field where people are primarily working to impress their colleagues or others in their field, rather than the customer.

Just look at the divide in architecture between houses sold to people, that are actually made to look inviting and high-quality, vs those huge modern buildings in cities that are mostly designed for "prestige" and to show off.

This only happens in markets where there's no real choice. This would never happen for cars for example because people can choose which car they buy. But if a website has a give UI, you can't choose a different one.

djaro··on Warner Bros shelves finished ‘Coyote vs. Acme’, takes $30M tax write-off
You clearly don't understand tax write offs. How would they "not take the tax write off"?? The tax write off is the expenses they made while creating the film. There is no way for them not to write it off, after the expenses have been made.

If they earn $100 and then spend $100, they have to write it off, because they no longer have the money, so they can't pay taxes on it.

djaro··on Apple exec defends 8GB $1,599 MacBook Pro, claims it's like 16GB on a PC
For more demanding tasks like video editing, even 16gb is not that much. Especially when you're working on big projects with hundreds of files and 100GB+ of footage. I can't see how any "pro" device only has 8gb in 2023
djaro··on Why banks are suddenly closing down customer accounts
Really? What external payoff is there for Bitcoin, besides other people investing in Bitcoin?

And gas fees means a large portion of money goes towards the "operators" (miners) of the network.

djaro··on Why banks are suddenly closing down customer accounts
Bitcoin does 7 transactions per second and has a latency of hours if you don't want to pay extremely high gas fees, so you can't use it as a currency.
djaro··on Why banks are suddenly closing down customer accounts
But the problem is, Crypto is full of scams, so to avoid that negative connotation the latest Bitcoin talking point has become "Bitcoin isn't crypto".

Which is stupid, because Bitcoin is THE number 1 crypto, but for some reason they're all claiming it isn't.

djaro··on Casio fx-CG50 calculator comes with Python built-in
Graphing calculators have a lot of features, and since students also use them during lessons it would be very difficult to suddenly use an entirely different interface during exams.

In the Netherlands we also had to have calculators during exams, because some questions just need a calculator to be solved. Especially for stuff like calculus plotting graphs is really useful.

djaro··on Casio fx-CG50 calculator comes with Python built-in
In the Netherlands in high school I also had to have either a Casio or TI calculator.

For simple maths a normal calculator is good enough, but you need a graphing calculator for more advanced math.

djaro··on The destruction of Gaza's internet is complete
A week ago, when Hamas dropped a rocket on THEIR OWN hospital, the "Health Ministry" said Israel killed 500 people. Despite it not being Israel, and it not killing 500 people.

They are just straight up lying

djaro··on Trying to make sense of why Otis exploded en route to Acapulco
"Otis" was also the name of a Kanye West/JayZ song so I was thinking maybe it had something to do with that??
djaro··on Anything longer ago than yesterday should just say the actual date
Especially because it becomes so imprecise. On YouTube, "1 year ago" can mean anywhere from 365 to 729 days. Anything between 1 and 2 years ago becomes "1 year ago".

So if I see two videos that were both uploaded "a year ago", it's impossible to know which is more recent without actually opening the videos, going to the description, and looking at the date.

djaro··on Why you shouldn't join Y Combinator
I don't get why anyone would pay for bug reports. Users reporting bugs is doing the developers a favor, they are doing QA for free.
djaro··on Neanderthals hunted dangerous cave lions, study shows
Yeah?

Up until relatively recently African tribes used to hunt elephants, lions, hippos, rhinos and more with just spears.

Of course humans hunted animals back then too.

djaro··on Every app that adds AI looks like this
I saw that too, and it didn't really make sense to me in the sense that food is complicated.

It needs to have the right ingredients in the right amounts to not spoil too quickly, to taste decent, to pass health regulations, etc.

Coca Cola knew exactly what ingredients were available. So what role did the AI play besides being a glorified list.random()? That humans then used as a starting point to turn into an actual drink?

djaro··on YouTuber Jailed on Piracy Charges Has 57-Vehicle Collection Auctioned by Feds
A subscription to cable TV costs money.

He was offering that same subscription for less money.

djaro··on Firefox refuses to allow developers to disable picture in picture on videos
So CSS should just be removed entirely... after all, why should a website get to choose how I consume it?
djaro··on Museum worker sold paintings and put forgeries in their place
To be fair, if you are already paying all your bills and necessities from your normal salary, an extra 30K/year can buy quite some luxury.

The difference between 60K and 90K may only be x1.5, but if you have 50K in necessities then your luxury money goes from 10K to 40K, which is 4x.

djaro··on Streaming is changing the sound of music
On YouTube I'd assume pay for music videos is generally similar, because music videos don't really have mid-roll ads (at least I've never gotten an ad in the middle of a song). Maybe due to post-roll ads people finishing the song could lead to extra revenue though.
