And he said, "Just call me Professor Cool Hunter".

I built this site with Claude from my global vocabulary list I've been keeping these past few years.

Enjoy!

djaouen··on Superhuman AI Exfiltrates Emails
Yes, but for me to use your DNA as code would be a major malfunction!
djaouen··on Superhuman AI Exfiltrates Emails
Are you f*cking kidding me? Grammarly is like the best one!
djaouen··on The insecure evangelism of LLM maximalists
You are defective. But, fear not! So is the rest of humanity!
djaouen··on Superhuman AI Exfiltrates Emails
OK, then sequence your DNA and send it to me. I will make sure to use it as code!
djaouen··on Why we don’t use AI
If the people developing and supporting chat- and c0rn-bots are anxious about the future, that is the correct emotion to be feeling.
djaouen··on Superhuman AI Exfiltrates Emails
Programming used to prevent this by separating code from data. AI (currently) has no such safeguards.
djaouen··on Ask HN: Is there a better alternative to email?
Yes. I call it, “Talking In Real Life” (TM).
djaouen··on Why does a least squares fit appear to have a bias when applied to simple data?
Squares are preferred because that is the same as minimizing Euclidean Distance, which is defined as sqrt((x2-x1)^2).
djaouen··on Why does a least squares fit appear to have a bias when applied to simple data?
This is probably obvious, but there is another form of regression that uses Mean Absolute Error rather than Squared Error as this approach is less prone to outliers. The Math isn’t as elegant, tho.
djaouen··on You can't learn to carry a title from books or AI
I am getting really sick of wading through the 90% sh*t (e.g., this) to get to the 10% gold on this website, especially since I have not profited one bit from coming here lol
djaouen··on Ask HN: What's the oldest piece of code still running in your stack?
As I age, I find myself wanting more and more software and pieces of equipment that last for ages.

To answer your question, I still have a functional watch from 14 years ago.

Which dictators are "in fashion" depends wholly on which party is in POWER. Polarization means that, perhaps, the dictator of Belarus can be kidnapped and arraigned by the incoming Democrat?
djaouen··on How to navigate the Year of Slop: You'll need an intellectual toolkit
On so-called "gooning": you are confusing cause with effect. The cause is that women are no longer forced to marry undesirable men. The effect is that gooning becomes a means of sexual gratification among (mostly) those same undesirable men.

On "17. Wilson Effect": China's solution to this is to engineer its children genetically. How do you propose the U.S. maximizes its own genetic fitness?

djaouen··on Web development is fun again
Web development is perhaps "fun" again if you consider PHP 4 and jQuery as "fun". A "problem" arises for those of us who prefer Ruby, Rails, and HotWire.

I'm not gonna lie, I use AI every day (in the form of Grammarly). But LLMs and so-called "agents" are less valuable to me, even if they would help me to produce more "output".

It will be interesting to me to discover the outcome of this bifurcation!

djaouen··on The suck is why we're here
> The suck is why we’re here, and only those who overcome it themselves will reap all the rewards of their hard labor.

Thinking/writing isn't "the suck".

> because the more people take shortcuts, the less quality will remain for readers to flock to, even if the overall quantity of options is much larger.

The creators of The Enhanced Games/Olympics would disagree with you.

Which brings me to my point: Are we satisfied being "Top Slave" or do we want to be Free? Or do you believe that Freedom is an illusion?

djaouen··on AI sycophancy panic
> For the purpose of conversation, what the model appears to ‘believe’ probably doesn’t matter

This is wrong to the point of being absurd. What the model "appears to 'believe'" does matter, and the model's "beliefs" about humans and society at large have vast implications for humanity's future.

djaouen··on The Cost of a Closure in C: The Rest
Iirc, in Lisp, closures are heap-allocated, unless they are created at compile-time with macros. Therefore, there is the added overhead of malloc and free calls with each closure created. Am I wrong here?
djaouen··on The Cost of a Closure in C: The Rest
Lisp solves the performance hit of closures with macros. However, given what macros look like in C, I hope it never amounts to that!
djaouen··on 2026 will be my year of the Linux desktop
Hey, gotta pay the bills, somehow! *shrug*
djaouen··on 2026 will be my year of the Linux desktop
See, now this is how a website *should* look: mainly text, with non-obtrusive ads at the bottom. It's really not that hard!
djaouen··on Why do Americans hate A.I.?
"Why do slaves hate chains?" wrote The Gotham Daily Propagandist
djaouen··on Text rendering hates you (2019)
Good. I hated it first!
djaouen··on Inmates could escape jail on drones, warns top prison governor
Or maybe they just insist on being materially correct?
djaouen··on Mt. Gox CEO Karpelès Reveals Details of 2014 Collapse and Japanese Detention
We fell out of contact long before Nvidia blew up: hope he's doing OK!
djaouen··on Mt. Gox CEO Karpelès Reveals Details of 2014 Collapse and Japanese Detention
Don't joke: I once knew a kid who invested all his savings in a company because he liked computer games; that company was Nvidia!
djaouen··on Games’ affordance of childlike wonder and reduced burnout risk in young adults
From experience, my childhood hobby of playing video games, such as Final Fantasy VII, influenced my view of reading other, non-video-game material, such as novels, short stories, and non-fiction. I don't know how many fewer books I would have read in my life had I not played those games when I was younger!
djaouen··on US destroying its reputation as a scientific leader – European science diplomat
Are you accusing me, a dirt poor schizophrenic, of somehow orchestrating a clandestine war on The Right Wing?
djaouen··on Debian's Git Transition
git is actually a case-study in "Worse Is Better". hg beats it in every way, except pure speed. Of course, git is still way better than svn, tho.
djaouen··on Debian's Git Transition
I remember when a startup I used to work for made the transition from svn to git. They transitioned, then threw the guy who suggested the transition under the bus; he quit, and then the company collapsed. Lol!
