dismiss21x··on Ask HN: Appropriate toy for a 1-year old girl that may lead to programming
You insinuated that by wanting to buy her a toy "that may lead to programming". Just buy her toys that make her think and encourage her to do what she is good at.
dismiss21x··on Show HN: Sell your Starbucks giftcards for Bitcoin
Curious as to what your business plan is here? To resell the gift cards for ~89% value, and by doing so convert BTC -> Starbucks -> USD?
dismiss21x··on Ask HN: Help. I need to go away from here
I lamented the same fact. Almost everything on my resume is self-taught, even though I'm almost done with my Masters.

dismiss21x··on Ask HN: Have you had trouble getting a job after a failed startup?
I've heard a story that someone with a PhD couldn't find a job in his field after being laid off, so he started applying to other lower-paying fields. He eventually removed the PhD from his resume, because he realized he was not being hired as employers saw him as 'overqualified' and likely to quit.
dismiss21x··on Show HN: WhoSMS - check domain availability via text message
I just use my phone's browser to go to http://whois.sc/domain.com
dismiss21x··on Coin
I have a money clip, and only carry my most pertinent cards - ID, ATM, and CCs. The remaining cards, like reward cards or library cards, are in a tin can in my car - which I drive to wherever I'm shopping, and just remove the card I need. I can't imagine carrying 15+ cards in my pocket, especially if it is in your back pocket.
dismiss21x··on Wreckage of UTA Flight 772
Pretty much. Hope the mods ban that site, along with Upworthy.
dismiss21x··on CryptoSeal (YC S11) Shutting Down Private VPN
Depends on what your goal is. Consumer VPNs have been used for an assortment of reasons. Some of these you would need a VPN server that is close-by, while others should be far away:

0) Remote access to small business office 1) Connect to home router to access home network 2) To avoid ISP throttling of YouTube, etc 3) Download torrents, usenet 4) Commit crimes (routed through unallied nations) 5) To watch Netflix or Hulu from Europe ...

dismiss21x··on Misconceptions about evolution
That is farcical. If something is thrown in the air, you can demonstrate the force of Newton's constant, thereby definitively demonstrating gravity. Actually calculating the gravitational constant with precision is the only difficulty there. Nothing about this is assumed. Which back to the point, is nothing like the assumptions of hereditary lines in the so-called "fossil record".
dismiss21x··on We paid $634 million for the Obamacare sites and all we got was this lousy 404
Wow. This ruined some of my ambitions, but thank you for the warning and stories.
dismiss21x··on Misconceptions about evolution
I've never seen it demonstrated definitively through the fossil record. There are a lot of assumptions and best-guesses leading back to common ancestors.
dismiss21x··on Misconceptions about evolution
I wouldn't say it's observed; no one has observed billions of years of evolution. That's why there is debate. Please don't compare to the observation of gravity; it's not even comparable.
dismiss21x··on Startup cost by city - infographic
Any ideas about the cost in Austin, TX. And what about Thailand?
dismiss21x··on Important Customer Security Announcement
Not sure if you're trolling... What are you talking about?
dismiss21x··on Peak Oil Perspective
> If you ever manage to have a rational discussion with an environmentalist (extremely hard ... >Do you have anything serious to add? If you want me to answer any questions, you have to show that you want a serious discussion. Just posting a cute question alone won't suffice.

Wow, that is defensive and ignorant - my question was short (or 'cute') because it didn't need extraneous lexicon. I'm simply curious about which environmental regulations are considered harmful so I could research them and educate myself. So no, I wasn't adding anything, but it was a serious question. Conversely, you went off on a huge tangent about atheists, deists, Republicans, and Democrats and still somehow did not answer my question. So I'll assume you don't know.

> Doing so is a tactic to distract opponents which is pretty disingenuous.

Well sailor Casseres, if you want to have a rational discussion without distracting yourself, how about you just genuinely answer the question.

dismiss21x··on Peak Oil Perspective
What "harmful environmental regulations" are you speaking of?

dismiss21x··on Hacker School Soylent
Organic soy? Or GMO Soy?

Please post your analysis about the effects of soy - I'm interested.

My own research on the subject shows that the research of male soy consumption being harmful is ambiguous, but mostly proven to not be harmful. Wikipedia has a discussion on the academic research on this as well, if you want a casual glance.
