dishsoap··on Yabai – A tiling window manager for macOS
One difference I've noticed is that with Magnet, if you have a window 'maximized' by dragging it into the top of the screen or pressing the shortcut for it, when you start dragging it down from the top of the screen to unmaximize it, it instantly returns to its original size, whereas with Rectangle it stays maximized for some time after you start dragging it which is pretty annoying.

Another thing is the way Magnet moves and resizes windows seems to create less visual 'flashing' than Rectangle's method, for instance Rectangle will resize, then move, then resize again when maximizing a window, which can create a really pronounced 'flashing' effect. That's not to say Magnet has no 'flashing' ever, there's certain situations where it does and to my understanding it seems necessary due to the limited nature of moving and resizing windows on macOS (I guess you have to do one then the other and can't both move and resize simultaneously?), but to me Magnet's methods often look visually better.

Rectangle is great though, I've switched to it from Magnet and these are just some minor gripes.

dishsoap··on Help HN: Google has blocked our entire domain for harmful programs
Why send every url you visit (or its hash, whatever) to google in return for little to no tangible benefit? I've never used safebrowsing at any point since its introduction and have yet to encounter a single instance where I would have benefitted had I been using it.
dishsoap··on AV1 video codec gains broader hardware support
It looks like dav1d is (or was 2 years ago, maybe it's even faster now) on par with ffmpeg's hevc decoder in that aspect: https://youtu.be/wkZ4KfZ7x1k?t=656

You're right about VP9 though, definitely faster to decode, though there are trade-offs (video quality, encoding performance) when compared to HEVC.

I would love to see them triple the max bitrate cap from 1 MB/s to 3 or so

Surprised to learn that google doesn't make use of certificate pinning in these apps.

dishsoap··on Pixel Binary Transparency: verifiable security for Pixel devices
Seems like a bit of a nothingburger, now you have two ways to verify your binaries came from google and are unmodified instead of one way, doesn't change much.

dishsoap··on Swing VPN app is a DDoS botnet
Hilarious conclusion from the author. It's almost certainly not the case that the owners of this service are using it to 'DDoS' targets, rather it's much more likely they are using your device to host a proxy server and then selling access to some 'residential proxy reseller'.

On the other side of that, some random Joe has probably purchased access to a set of these 'residential proxies' and is using them to scrape flight data from the airline site the article author noticed, with some of those requests being sent over the author's connection.

Many 'free vpn' and 'free proxy' apps engage in this behavior, you may proxy your requests via their connection, but they also proxy their requests via yours, generally reselling that access to someone who finds your IP address to be of value to them due to the fact that it's not a datacenter address.

It's certainly questionable to straight up unethical either way, especially so if the service doesn't disclose to you that they're doing that, but on the other hand I find the author's DDoS conclusion to be so contrived and out of touch with reality that I had to write this comment.

dishsoap··on Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive: Display
Personally I disagree about the resolution being a sweet spot, in my opinion it's almost the worst resolution imaginable for this size. The pixels are just slightly too small to the point where it becomes annoying and uncomfortable (for most people) to use it at 100% scaling, 200% scaling is out of the question as everything would be massive and you'd only get some 720p equivalent worth of real estate, and fractional scaling is generally subpar and not worth using in many cases. I think both 4k and 1080p are better options for a 15-16" screen.
