dirasieb··on A communist Apple II and fourteen years of not knowing what you're testing
voted down for speaking the truth

this website and free discussion as a whole would not exist if communist governments had their way, something to keep in mind

dirasieb··on Chimpanzees in Uganda locked in eight-year 'civil war', say researchers

>beloved

by whom? ROFL, good luck substantiating this claim

are we ignoring the fact that he massacred countless people for protesting against him THIS YEAR?

dirasieb··on Why do Macs ask you to press random keys when connecting a new keyboard?
they don't ask you to press random keys
dirasieb··on Artemis II Launch Day Updates
>We're redoing things we did before most people in this thread were even born

oh really? show me a picture of the dark side of the moon then

not a reconstruction, not touched up crap based on data like that black hole pic that went viral a few years ago, an actual photograph taken by an astronaut of the dark side of the moon

dirasieb··on Ubuntu wants to strip some of GRUB features in 26.10 for security purposes
it is really fearmongering when the systemd people literally founded a company to develop attestation for linux?

at some point you people need to stop pretending it’s all just a slippery “slope fallacy” every single time they push for more control

dirasieb··on Ubuntu wants to strip some of GRUB features in 26.10 for security purposes
because it “runs for a few seconds” until the maintainers decide it should run for a few minutes, see init for an example
dirasieb··on Epoch confirms GPT5.4 Pro solved a frontier math open problem
you’re just abstracting it away into this new “systems” definition

when someone says LLMs today they obviously mean software that does more than just text, if you want to be extra pedantic you can even say LLMs by themselves can’t even geenrate text since they are just model files if you don’t add them to a “system” that makes use of that model files, doh

dirasieb··on Epoch confirms GPT5.4 Pro solved a frontier math open problem
> And importantly don’t know when they need to use it

patently false, but hey at least you’re able to see the parallel between you with a scratch pad and an LLM with a python terminal

dirasieb··on Mystery jump in oil trading ahead of Trump post draws scrutiny
his pants
dirasieb··on Microsoft's "fix" for Windows 11
feel free to link a windows computer (pre-built or parts, whatever you want) that outperforms the m4 mac mini while costing either the same or less
dirasieb··on Microsoft's "fix" for Windows 11
the funniest thing in this whole "fixing windows" campaign is that you can download "fixed" (read: not enshittified) windows TODAY instead of waiting for microsoft to deliver on these promises

reduces focus on AI, better performance, more stable updates, etc are all already here with windows 11 LTSC, why the hell would i move back to the GA release and deal with their crap?

dirasieb··on Swiss e-voting pilot can't count 2,048 ballots after decryption failure
birth certificate is not the only form of ID
dirasieb··on Swiss e-voting pilot can't count 2,048 ballots after decryption failure
> No other country is quite as heterogeneous as the US.

there's no scientific link between race and the ability to go to a DMV once every 10 years

dirasieb··on Swiss e-voting pilot can't count 2,048 ballots after decryption failure
>Depends on what qualifies as an ID

how about the ones accepted by the police when they ask "show me your ID"?

if it's enough to ID you to cops it should be enough to ID you to enter the voting booth, no?

>and how hard it is to get one.

you can get one at the DMV

dirasieb··on Swiss e-voting pilot can't count 2,048 ballots after decryption failure
> paper ballots and requiring IDs

isn't that racist? i've heard it repeated but i'm not so sure

dirasieb··on FFmpeg at Meta: Media Processing at Scale
it's the exact opposite but alright, take a look at who's behind funding and sending code to the linux kernel if you want an example
dirasieb··on Dario Amodei calls OpenAI’s messaging around military deal ‘straight up lies’
assuming the worst from the government IS how you set up good legal frameworks to limit government's power, have you ever heard of the first and second amendments?
dirasieb··on British Columbia is permanently adopting daylight time
>I don't want sunrise to happen at 21:00, noon at 3:00, and sunset at 9:00

but it will happen regardless of what you think about it, the only choice you have is to pretend it's happening at a "different time" because you assign a different number to it

dirasieb··on /e/OS is a complete, fully “deGoogled” mobile ecosystem
is "/e/ supports my phone while graphene only supports google pixels" not a good reason?
dirasieb··on Block the “Upgrade to Tahoe” alerts
no issues here either, macbook air m4 + 2k 180hz monitor + a bunch of usb and bluetooth peripherals

the only thing i miss from sequoia so far is the launchpad, but i've already adapted to just using spotlight

dirasieb··on NASA announces overhaul of Artemis program amid safety concerns, delays
to be fair they had way less requirements on making the CGI look good

back then TVs weren't that popular and those that had one were stuck with very low definition video, today our 2k and 4k screens would be able to spot their flaws easily

dirasieb··on NASA announces overhaul of Artemis program amid safety concerns, delays
it's because we "destroyed the technology" :^)
