dingoegret··on LiveLeak shuts down after 15 years online
For me it was

1) gruesome abortions conducted in some western country

2) Denmark a man (immigrant?) was immolated outside his home by a crowd. They are shouting

3) man is hacked by a machete in the UK by some edl member

4) America a guy was run over by a truck and gets stuck on the wheels, still alive. crowd just blankly watches. truck begins to move

dingoegret··on Zero arrests in 6 months of health care professionals replacing police officers
Professional experience? Inventing new speak for anecdotes on the fly, bravo.
dingoegret··on Montreal is taxing churches (2017)
It's evident by your opening that you have a bone to pick with religion, so I'll keep this short. 3D printing masks for an emergency and other one offs don't come close to the amount of non stop, year long, permanent activity in charity and community of churches and mosques.
dingoegret··on With oil cheap, Arab states cannot balance their books
Even renewables need tons of fossil to lubricate moving parts. Generators in a turbine alone is a massive oil guzzler. The world will always need oil until a synthetic lubricant that isn't insanely cost prohibitive.
dingoegret··on Don't close your MacBook with a cover over the camera
>applies only to older Mac notebooks from like 2008

Point being that the indicator light can be hacked and isn't too be blindly trusted.

dingoegret··on Huawei hid business operation in Iran after Reuters reported links to CFO
I'm Algerian so your tinfoil hat must be malfunctioning.
dingoegret··on Huawei hid business operation in Iran after Reuters reported links to CFO
This is the reason we need a less globalized world where dangerous regimes like the United States can't claim most of the world's commerce through imperialism then turn around and gatekeep because "its theirs"
dingoegret··on Huawei hid business operation in Iran after Reuters reported links to CFO
Good. US sanctions on Iran are violations of international agreements, decency and a treacherous renege on the Nuclear Deal.
dingoegret··on Police attacks against journalists across the U.S. since May 28
>where the amount of police killed per year on duty(even disregarding accidents) is more akin to a third world country

Police mortality isn't any more exceptionally high in a "third world country" than anywhere else. Your view that bad things = third world country, is simplistic. Your attitude is typical of a certain mindset. It's also boring because now I can tell a lot about you and could guess 100% correctly about any of you derivative political viewpoints.

dingoegret··on The use of `class` for things that should be simple free functions
Objects do not necessarily mean polymorphism and they certainly don't necessarily mean polymorphism via dynamic dispatch. For example, it's entirely possible to just use objects all within the stack. It's entirely possible to implement monomorphism via generics.

So yes, object-hate characterises the popular but tiresome anti OOP sentiments going around.

dingoegret··on The use of `class` for things that should be simple free functions
Exactly. So you aren't proposing any improvements if by your own admission, it's no more tedious.

Except that it's actually more tedious implementing your own bootleg object. Then managing the scope, namespace and pointers. When they could all be contained inside a language construct guaranteed to follow the rules.

dingoegret··on Pretending OOP Never Happened
Okay so it just sounds to me like careful OOP. Discipline just isn't a paradigm. It's an ethic and it's a good ethic. I love OOP, I've always built systems I was proud of with it. But to do that effectively you do need discipline and you need experience in design. Which most people think they can just skirt blindly by writing procedural code in class wrappers and the system will just magically emerge. This results in even more horrific programs when combined with blind TDD. This has always been nonsense. I don't use much OOP nowadays due to my work prioritizing efficiency and speed. Which OOP fails at miserably. But every now and again I'll find myself doing some monomorphism that looks like vtable dispatch without ever touching heap. And I'll kindly look back on my OOP days.
dingoegret··on Pretending OOP Never Happened
Best answer so far.
dingoegret··on Pretending OOP Never Happened
I don't see any difference between DOP and procedural. Saying the difference is best practices and something vague about language mechanisms is accute to saying procedural is different to DOP because people say "do it good". This is even more formless than the criticism of no hard definitions levied against OOP by the same people.
dingoegret··on Pretending OOP Never Happened
The problem with your claims now is that they are unfalsifiable. How do we go about proving or rejecting your ostensible claim that this how OOP programmers say it should be done? The OOP community has a vibrant culture of critiquing bad designs. See DDD and similar efforts.
dingoegret··on Pretending OOP Never Happened
Exactly this. As someone who abandoned OOP, I find that my programming has improved a lot. But whenever I hear criticism of OO, it's always about this ancient taxonomic structuring (is-a has-a) idea that no one doing post 90s OOP is doing at all. And it's always proponents of "simpler" procedural paradigms that harp on about this. Weird.

dingoegret··on Sweden Drops Julian Assange Rape Investigation
It is in the business of assassinating visible targets. By probability and behavioral record. Unless you have special evidence to contrary.
dingoegret··on Sweden Drops Julian Assange Rape Investigation
That's just your world view and western conditioning. I don't know what you mean by "free country" or what that has to do with state actors persecuting another political actor. Help me understand. I don't have the conditioning to read past the slogans and just understand why certain nations are pure.
dingoegret··on Sweden Drops Julian Assange Rape Investigation
I don't know why you don't think a trial doesn't carry seriously negative and scary connotations, but it does and no rational person just subjects themselves to persecution.
dingoegret··on Sweden Drops Julian Assange Rape Investigation
Self-inflicted? That makes no sense. I advise you to revise your understanding of that definition.
dingoegret··on Arabic Mathematics: Forgotten Brilliance? (1999)
Muslims inherited a great number if slaves from the empires they conquered. The most responsible political course of action was to introduce gradual manumission with incentives that would benefit the people of the Caliphate. So yes, they did free slaves. It wasn't some fairy tale day 1 everyone is free now, let society burn in disorder, do whatever you want, but it was the correct thing to do.
dingoegret··on Arabic Mathematics: Forgotten Brilliance? (1999)
This is not true. They were likely ethnically Egyptian or Phoenician or Libyan but had Hellenic names. In the same way the Iranian mathematicians in the article had Arabic names. Culture and language often cross ethnic boundaries and it's up to historians to piece it all together.
dingoegret··on 8chan goes dark after hardware provider discontinues service
I grew up in the middle east and I still live in the middle east and I never heard anyone say kill da Jews or da imperialists because those kinds of wacky statements can only be conjured up by a Westerner with preconceived notions about what middle easterners are and pretends to be one on the internet for argument points.
dingoegret··on Al-Maʿarri
The bite of the comeback gets lost in translation. It was pretty good given the context and the language.
dingoegret··on Mobile customer location data is ending up in the hands of bounty hunters
Very dumb argument. There is no cart and there is no horse. Eliminate the bail system and something has to fill the void.
dingoegret··on Please do not attempt to simplify this code
"far too little" it sounds good but you need to think about what you're saying. Do you want a function to be doing too much or too little. I think any sensible programmer will choose too little. It's easier to understand. This isn't about abstraction and the trendy fashion that is the irrational fear of it nowadays. Is about people being better at tackling problems in small doses.
dingoegret··on Please do not attempt to simplify this code
Why do all anti oop posts sound like completely unlikely, exaggerated lies? A few hundred lines to thousands with dozens of files and classes (gasp). Lol
