dingo_bat··on Magic Leap One Creator's Edition First Look
At a glance it really looks like magicleap straight-up lifted this device.
dingo_bat··on Tokyo medical school admits changing results to exclude women
> doesn't have direct influence on rejections, only admissions.

What bullshit. Accepting someone underqualified means rejecting someone perfectly qualified, by definition.

> But if you think publicly funded colleges should have 100% transparent admission standards

I think all colleges should have transparent standards. Publicly funded ones should have fair and non-racist transparent standards.

dingo_bat··on Tokyo medical school admits changing results to exclude women
My rejection letter did not tell me how much my race/ethnicity affected the decision. So how is it any different?
dingo_bat··on Tokyo medical school admits changing results to exclude women
Is there a difference?
dingo_bat··on Tokyo medical school admits changing results to exclude women
Maybe it is different for babies?

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/how-to-take... says:

> A normal temperature in babies and children is about 36.4C (97.5F)

dingo_bat··on Pi-Hole: Why You Need a Network-Wide Ad-Blocker
What's the advantage over just using ublock everywhere? Why go to all this effort and include another point of failure in your network when you can just install an extension?

I've been using a Samsung TV for the last 3 years and never seen an ad on YouTube. Which model are you using?
dingo_bat··on Introducing Android 9 Pie
Who knew individual customers have almost zero leverage on a trillion dollar company? I'm fed up of all the anti-consumer bullshit from Apple lately. It encourages the same behavior in others too.
dingo_bat··on Plan to replicate 50 high-impact cancer papers shrinks to just 18
$1000 per mouse? Seems really expensive.
dingo_bat··on 60 people shot in Chicago over the weekend
Wow that was kind of stupid of me to miss that.
dingo_bat··on 60 people shot in Chicago over the weekend
Is there a riot going on in the city? TFA has literally no details except that the mayor has blamed the shootings on guns(?).
dingo_bat··on Introducing Android 9 Pie
This is the first time I am considering an iphone as my next phone. But the lack of headphone jack makes it really hard.
dingo_bat··on Introducing Android 9 Pie
Reading through the list of improvements leaves me quite underwhelmed. I thought the Oreo upgrade was basically useless, but this is literally a service pack style update. Also amusing to see "battery improvements" in every release without anything to show for it.
dingo_bat··on What did Earth look like X million years ago?
How do we know the geography of so long ago?
dingo_bat··on Deep Space Network Now: Status of communications with our deep space explorers
NASA has truly achieved some ridiculous feats. I hope that we see more of this in the future.
dingo_bat··on Firefox’s Trusted Recursive Resolver DNS feature is dangerous
The impression I got from TFA is that the feature will be on by default and you have to dig into about:config to disable it.
dingo_bat··on Venezuela President Maduro 'survives drone attack'
I think just the act of detonating a nuke sets off an EMP. However all electronics getting fried just before the entire city is incinerated ranks pretty low on the priority list.
dingo_bat··on Venezuela President Maduro 'survives drone attack'
I am assuming you are talking about countering drones in a civilian, non-war setting. Because drones are no use in a war against any nation with any semblance of an air force at all.
dingo_bat··on Firefox’s Trusted Recursive Resolver DNS feature is dangerous
I've been using Brave. It's beta quality software but works surprisingly well.
dingo_bat··on Firefox’s Trusted Recursive Resolver DNS feature is dangerous
I have configured my network settings to use a particular set of DNS servers. The issue is Firefox going out of the way to use something else.
dingo_bat··on G Suite Horror Story
One would think that applies to the free users, not the paying customers.

> At best your have the mild convenience of a single inbox.

Which is also not an issue if you use a decent email client. Even Win10 default Mail app supports unified inbox for multiple accounts.

dingo_bat··on Modern SAT solvers: fast, neat and underused
Very interesting. I have no formal CS training so this is really eye-opening to me.
dingo_bat··on Linus Torvalds on Wireguard
Agree. This barely fits the definition of "news".
dingo_bat··on Wikipedia bans agenda-driven editor, but punishes the messenger too
Agenda driven editor sounds exactly like the kind of editors you need for an encyclopedia. If you have no agenda, won't you just sit at home and watch TV?
dingo_bat··on That $35 that scientific journals charge goes 100% to publisher, 0% to authors
I assume you're being sarcastic?
dingo_bat··on How Jack Ma took on eBay with Taobao
It's called free market.
dingo_bat··on Amazon Dark Patterns
I just don't like the loss of control. At least in this case, my approach seems to be beneficial. I didn't have to deal with the hassle mentioned here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=17651882
dingo_bat··on Amazon Dark Patterns
You can't blame the users though. If I have a bad delivery experience, I'm going to leave a bad review. It's Amazon's problem that they don't let you differentiate between product issues and delivery issues.
dingo_bat··on Amazon Dark Patterns
It's good that android doesn't allow this. And it doesn't give a way for the app to find out if I actually rated also. So I just click yes i want to rate. Then come back and continue as usual.
