dineshdb··on A $500 RL fine-tune of a 9B open model beat frontier models on catalog review
I took a look at the codebase and found that this is just pattern matching. There is no any novelty here. It looks good for knowledge-base retrieval system, but other than that, this is just nothing more than a pattern-matcher.

Would love to be proven wrong with future updates.

dineshdb··on Open source Pocket code
I think this[0] comes close to what is used to extract text from an HTML document. Fetching can be done via any HTTP client. Will need jsdom to convert the text to DOM before feeding it to readability.

dineshdb··on Amazon is blocking Google’s FLoC
I think the point was first party tracking was okay, irrespective of whether it was Google or Amazon.

I expect first party tracking on YouTube and find it useful, but wouldn't want Google to track my activities across the internet.

dineshdb··on Why we decided for and against Ubuntu Core
That seems to be geared towards edge servers and IoT use cases. Otherwise, all of them use the same technologies.

Also one thing to note is that CoreOS as well as IoT is bootstrappable with a configuration file via ignition(a tool for automation).

dineshdb··on Why we decided for and against Ubuntu Core
Fedora CoreOS might be better in this regard since that is designed for server use case. Silverblue took that technology and applied to the desktop.

Silverblue user here. Haven't tried CoreOS myself.

dineshdb··on Reflections on IDEA vs VS Code
I went this route with code-server[1]. But later decided against it because some shortcuts don't work in the browser. Also installing and managing code-server on those VMs had started becoming a chore.

I am using remote-ssh instead. Hassle-free and works like charm.

Can't comment on sudo issue because I mostly log in using root.

dineshdb··on What's the future of Servo?
On the contrary, google contract has been rumored to be 99.99% certain (company sources).

Have you considered developing a WebExtension?
dineshdb··on Please Stop Posting Medium and NYT and WP Articles
I use temporary containers in firefox. I also have gripe that most of the articles in Medium are non-archivable so I have no way of knowing if the articles I find useful will be available next year.
dineshdb··on Privacy Sandbox – Open standards to enhance privacy on the web
Use Canvas blocker which will give a fake fingerprint instead.
dineshdb··on Autobiographical memory is typically biased toward positive events
Yes, there can be but here try to remove the context of writing it altogether. You tend to remember positive memories more than negative memories. That's how our memory works. Period.
