didip··on Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?
Spam/Scam filtering should have been the perfect place to show case SOTA AI. Why Google & Meta have not been able to do so?

Relatedly, DMCA should be expanded to harmful ads content.

didip··on iPhone Duo
It looks very useful with all the software integrations. Now the price tag however... Without financing it would be hard for majority of buyers to justify.
didip··on Executable Is a SQLite Database
A lot of kernel filesystem features should be inside a database as well.
didip··on Being ambitious and being a dad
To achieve maximum career success & maximum effort to be a great dad is not possible.

Time, energy, & your age are finite. That’s all there is to it.

However, if the metric of career/financial success is reduced to just net worth gaining at X% rate consistently, then it is possible to spend as little time as possible on career success and maximum time to be the best dad possible.

I retired after realizing and choosing this path.

didip··on How I use HTMX with Go
I love HUGS a lot too. Currently building a next gen platform using strictly HUGS.
didip··on Why Vanilla JavaScript
If we are going to rant like this… i’d say even most of JS is unnecessary.

Just use server side template rendering with HTMX. LLM can see server side request flow better anyway.

didip··on We scaled PgBouncer to 4x throughput
if your backend app is one big binary per host? Sure.

But if your backend app is a shared nothing fork of many processes then this is surely needed.

didip··on Protobuf-py: Protobuf for Python, without compromises
What was the backstory of gogoproto?
didip··on GPT-5.6, Grok 4.5, Claude, and Muse Spark build the same 4 apps
I actually like this methodology of testing AI much better than all the other benchmark tests.

Real world is messy, other benchmarks are clearly gameable by the Chinese open models.

Great job! And I don’t care about the tone of the article, it’s readable just fine.

didip··on StreetComplete: Fixing OpenStreetMap, one tiny quest at a time
oooo what a fantastic idea. I have always wanted to map as many clothes donation boxes as possible.
didip··on Can China build its own ASML?
I don’t see why not. China can move a mountain with a billion spoons if they want to.

China’s willpower and centralized deployment of that willpower is legendary.

didip··on Leaked OpenAI financials show $38.5B loss and compute burn
Is this AI bot? So annoying that bots can join in HN conversations.
didip··on WWDC 2026: Apple is Folding
I don’t quite understand this new product strategy.

I usually am a pro Apple consumer but how many high end users actually want this form factor?

didip··on I am retiring from tech to live offline
I finally pulled the trigger after being in tech for 21 years. 10 years at a FAANG.

I simply can’t handle the performative Machiavellian culture anymore.

I could play that game for longer, but I don’t want to. All I want is to build cool and ambitious things without any of the theatrics.

I don’t want to go offline. I just want to live a normal, modern, and peaceful life. I would go nuts without all of the comfort of modern tech, especially the high speed broadband.

didip··on Private Equity Bought America's Essential Services
Had pension fund just invest in VOO, PE won't need to exist.
didip··on Dropbox CEO Drew Houston to step down
Finally realized what Steve Jobs said was true: Dropbox is a feature, not a product.
didip··on Who will buy your services if you fire us all?
I think the billionaire class will expand BNPL type products so everyone will stay in-debt forever. And expand gig economy so everyone can stay "employed" forever.
didip··on MCP Hello Page
I never quite understand why /mcp endpoint is needed.

You can still keep using Rest API with swagger docs and tell the AI to read the swagger docs. It's the same thing. The entire Rest API specification is a lot more flexible than the JSON RPC format /mcp uses.

didip··on Googlebook
It looks great. If the price is good, I think it will sell well. The only thing holding it back is Google’s own reputation of canceling things so rapidly.
didip··on I Will Never Use AI to Code
This kind of writing makes you sound immature.

People used to drive manual. Now it’s all automatic transmission. Some cars even drive itself.

People used to proudly use Vi to write code. But now IDE is commonplace.

People used to write asm by hand. Transport Tycoon was written in assembly. But these days that would be insane.

Technological progress is an absolute thing. It produces too much convenience and wealth to ignore.

didip··on DeepSeek 4 Flash local inference engine for Metal
What if PyTorch is extended to have a pluggable compiler? For M GPU types and N models, if the backend allows, run a specialized compiler?
didip··on OpenAI president forced to read his personal diary entries to jury
I know a lot of people use private conversations with chatbot as a replacement to journaling which is a form of self therapy.

So… those can be aired willy nilly too then. They are out on public clouds now.

didip··on Does Employment Slow Cognitive Decline? Evidence from Labor Market Shocks
As someone who recently retired early, you really need to have a solid game plan on what you want to do with all the time you have. Spend a solid 3-6 months planning and mocking your post retirement days while still working.

The more detailed the plan the better. If you want to go to the gym, what will you do there and for how long and how many days a week?

If you want to have a tech side project, how many hours do you plan on spending on this project? And be reasonable. Don't trade one burnout over another.

If you are planning to learn something new, what are those? and don't just learn one thing. 8 hours plus is a crazy amount of time.

One of those plan should include making new friends post retirement, revolving around activities that are not work related.

It is far too easy to lose track of time without a brand new schedule to fill the void.

didip··on How ChatGPT serves ads
So news about OpenAI demise is real. They can’t sustain themselves without ads.
didip··on Microsoft and OpenAI end their exclusive and revenue-sharing deal
I agree. Data and userbase are still the moats.

Once a new model or a technique is invented, it’s just a matter of time until it becomes a free importable library.

didip··on I bought Friendster for $30k – Here's what I'm doing with it
I have to ask, what is the difference between this and private WhatsApp groups?
didip··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
wow… I didn’t expect this. My guess would have been after the current administration.

Why so soon?

didip··on The Hateful Eight is 85% of S&P 500 Decline
Just QQQ and chill. You get all of the hardware companies monster gains to offset the losses.
didip··on South Korea Mandates Solar Panels for Public Parking Lots
This is surely a good thing. The only thing better than this is to build a tall multi purpose structure on that same land AND THEN put solar panels on top of that structure.
didip··on Should QA exist?
Yes, but should be supercharged with AI.

I’d like them to record their steps in details in videos and have AI dissected the steps into text descriptor that’s relevant to the code.
