dickersnoodle··on The drivers behind software delivery inefficiency
Worth it to who?
dickersnoodle··on Georgia family says they're forced to sell home to power AI data centers
I'm sure it seems "entirely fine" to you but the people being forcibly moved off their land have a very different reaction. I guess it comes down to who gets the gold mine and who gets the shaft...
dickersnoodle··on AI boosts research careers but narrow the span of ideas explored: study
This isn't a real surprise to anyone who knows how "AI" works.
dickersnoodle··on Apple Silicon Exec Explains Mac Mini AI Demand and On-Device Future
Why on earth would you need to do that for most things? Not everyone wants to be the next Coreweave. It sounds like you're killing a fly with a cannon to me.
dickersnoodle··on Boomers are hoarding most of America's wealth and power
As many commenters have pointed out, a lot of that wealth will disappear into the grubby hands of private-equity-owned assisted living facilities and nursing homes.
dickersnoodle··on Private equity bought America's essential services
I'd have said ghouls. At least vampires are sexy...
dickersnoodle··on Anthropic downgraded cache TTL on March 6th
Hopefully that EVP feels embarrassed that a big bet was made that not only didn't pay off but left the company in a worse position. Some schadenfreude may be all you can expect, since this is an executive.
dickersnoodle··on Colorado House passes bill to limit surveillance pricing and wage setting
You talk about that like it's a problem...
dickersnoodle··on Newly purchased Vizio TVs now require Walmart accounts to use smart features
> I never connect my smart TVs to the network, I just plug in my Apple TV and move on.

You're not alone.

Every developer has had this fight with management and most lose.

dickersnoodle··on The AI boom is causing shortages everywhere else
Someone in management read and misunderstood "The Velocity of Money" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velocity_of_money)?
dickersnoodle··on How to effectively write quality code with AI

Good. Now do (Florida Senator) Rick Scott.
dickersnoodle··on Apple's slow AI pace becomes a strength as market grows weary of spending
"Monopoly abuse"? Apple Pay was a huge leap forward in preventing credit card info theft, to the point that I only buy gas at stations that use Apple Pay to avoid having my bank account emptied by someone running a pump skimmer.
dickersnoodle··on Apple's slow AI pace becomes a strength as market grows weary of spending
"existential threat to Windows" - from your lips to whoever's ear.

Sorry, this just made shivers run up my back.

dickersnoodle··on The EU made Apple adopt new Wi-Fi standards, and now Android can support AirDrop
It's conceivably politically incorrect to use this reference, but Apple was begging the EU not to throw them into that briar patch.
dickersnoodle··on Three Years from GPT-3 to Gemini 3
Apparently not. This is the most perfect example I've seen of "I can recite it, but I don't understand it so I don't know if it's really right or not" that I've seen in a while.
dickersnoodle··on Spec-Driven Development: The Waterfall Strikes Back
I don't get offended. I've built software for my entire (43+ year) career and call myself a software developer (and back in the day a computer programmer) and I have never worked in a place where they treated it like actual engineering but have worked in plenty of places that had the "never enough time to do it right but plenty of time to do it over" attitude
dickersnoodle··on Meta replaces WhatsApp for Windows with web wrapper
Depends on the app and how it's built. There are ways to architect native mobile apps that give a lot of flexibility, and there are even ways to build both the native and web apps that help with information architecture and UX consistency but you have to design them with that in mind.
dickersnoodle··on Meta replaces WhatsApp for Windows with web wrapper
>feature teams" can't easily ship native desktop UI because feature team eng only knows web...

This is the bane of a lot of the native developer's existence. Add to that the designers that only know how to use Sigma plugins and it just makes it worse.

dickersnoodle··on Is Vibe Coding Dying?
One can certainly hope so.
